While I have degrees in clarinet, I am also an accomplished flutist who has performing experience in several musicals and shows in the Denver area and Western Massachusetts. I have experience starting beginning flute students and helping young flutists develop their skills and musicianship. My goal is to tailor lessons to meet each student's individual needs and interests, while still reinforcing good technique. Lessons will usually consist of doing a mix of different things such as: long tones, scales, etudes to improve technique and musicality, solos, duets, and Disney or jazz/pop tunes.

About Leslie

Leslie is a Denver based musician—clarinetist and teacher—who performs in solo and collaborative projects across the state while maintaining an active teaching studio. We went with online piano lessons at the moment due to COVID, but I was nervous about the format as the lessons are for my five-year-old daughter, so I was concerned the additional technology would be an impediment. Dr. Merkel was wonderful. He was friendly and encouraging to my daughter, ensuring she knew she could ask any questions she might have at any point. He absolutely made the technology work for us, and my daughter learned more than I would have thought possible in 30 minutes. She is counting down to her next lesson!

Very knowledgeable. My daughter enjoy learning from him.

So far, I have had only one lesson with Dr. M., the only singing lesson I've had in my entire 66 years of a lifetime. My only regret, is that I did not take them sooner. Dr M. is patient, an expert, and motivational. What more could you ask for when working with a teacher. He thinks he can make a singer out of me; I'll have to trust his judgement. It would be awesome, if he achieves our goal.

I have taught Flute and Recorder over a decade in both personal and classroom settings. Several of my students have gone on to achieve gold medals in their solo and ensemble contests, and place within the IMA music competition.

Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play a stronger, more supported sound and as time goes on you'll be able to expand your range beyond what you thought possible. I specialize in working with beginners, and have experience working with students new to braces, as well. Typically, I use the Rubank Flute Method book in addition to your school's band books.

As far as what age to start flute, I am firm in starting a student no earlier than the spring/summer before their 4th grade year of schooling. This is not to say that a child could not begin learning music earlier, but the arm length required to play flute is necessary to achieve success.

For recorders, I use various method books and pull from many additional pop song books as well. ...

I regularly play flute at my shows. It's is a secondary instrument for me. I am familiar with the repertoire for competitions and class. I can help a student excel through technique in classical music as well as the world of improvisation. I can help you with sight-reading, scales, technique, and music theory. You’ll also get to play along to some fun recordings!

About Mary

I started playing saxophone in 1994. It was an immediate passion! As the years went on my thirst for music grew and I picked up more instruments. No matter which instrument I play the passion is the same. I like to write and arrange as well so I feel an extreme importance on music theory. I am clas

She is very nice.

Mary was a fun and patient piano lesson teacher. I have never taken any music lessons before so we started with the basics but she did a good job of finding the pace that I learned at. She taught slow enough for me to catch on, but not too slow to where I felt like my 30 min lessons were a waste of time/money.

Unfortunately, I had to cancel the rest of my lessons with Mary because I was becoming too busy with work to stay committed to my lessons and practice. If I ever take lessons again I'll definitely sign up with Mary again, zero complaints.
Madison A.
Mary was amazing teacher for me, and she really sparked my passion for music. I had really just started clarinet when I began taking lessons from her, and I truly believe one of the reasons I am going into music is because of how she made me see it. In the short time that I was able to be her student I learned more than just the fundamentals, and have yet to find a teacher that I work with as well as I did with her. If I could take up lessons with her again, I would in a heartbeat.

My son began piano lessons with Rachel nearly two years ago and we have been very happy working with her. He has progressed steadily and is continually challenged to improve. She selects musical pieces that fit his personal interests as well as more traditional pieces with increasing complexity. We hope to continue learning with her for many more years to come.

As an adult learner, I was nervous about taking my first piano lesson. I had always wanted to learn coming from a musical family but was hesitant to start. From the minute I showed up, Sarah welcomed me in and explained the basics of the piano and what the white and black keys were named and how half steps and full steps work on the piano. She taught me the correct form of sitting at the piano and what height my bench should be in relation to the piano and how to hold my wrists correctly. As a math person, she indulged my curiosity about ratios and drew a fantastic visual about the circle of 5ths that is still the best visual have to do this day. Better than anything you could find online. She gave me warm up practices for my fingers and told me of a great beginning piano book for adults. She also helped me deal with the frustation of my left hand (right hand dominant) not doing what I wanted it to do and what my brain was telling it to do and gave me tips on how to practice my left hand and not be frustrated. I moved and was sad that I couldn't continue in person lessons but am very happy that she offers online lessons. Sarah is a very kind person and made me feel not stupid when I messed up or felt like I was asking a "dumb question." With her background in teaching music and her immense knowledge of different instruments she is able to explain things in a way where it "clicks." If you're looking for a good music teacher you cannot go wrong with Sarah. She's lovely and makes learning the piano fun and not frustrating (which can happen at the beginning especially with the non-dominant hand) but Sarah knows how to handle any problem that may arise. She loves seeing her student's succeed and with her as your teacher you'll fall more in love with the learning process than you ever imagined possible.

"It is with great pleasure for me to recommend Jenny as a flute instructor. I am one of her advanced and more mature students (I didn't want to say old lol! ). I graduated with a BM and have taught elementary music for 37 years. Jenny is creative, intuitive and compassionate. She has a thirst for knowledge and a great passion for teaching! She is always searching for new and innovative ways of teaching musical concepts. I am amazed how she is able to be so expressive in the way that she explains how to play expressively! In the short time that I have been taking lessons from Jenny I have experienced great improvement on all levels of my flute playing. Her “bag of tricks” appear to be endless! In my humble opinion I feel Jenny has all the qualities of a master teacher! I always look forward for my lessons with her!"

"Jenny Packard was my instructor for 3 years and now the director of the flute choir I attend. She is a great teacher and mentor and provides honest feedback with so much encouragement. She helped me greatly improve my technique, sound, posture to avoid pain, and even made me view playing music differently and now, I have so much more appreciation for the art. Not only was she a wonderful teacher, but someone who I could count on to be there when I needed her. She was very patient with me and always made me feel like I could accomplish any piece of music. She is truly an outstanding instructor and anyone would be lucky to work with her!"

"I can't say enough great things about Sue! Under her guidance, it's been a pleasure getting back into playing my flute after a hiatus of over 25 years. Her knowledge of the instrument and expert instruction (as well as her infinite patience!) continue to provide me with the motivation I've needed to overcome some of the challenges I've faced after being away from my instrument for so long. Her teaching style is relaxed and flexible but firm; she knows just when I need to be challenged and just when to back away a bit. She's been a great fit for me, and I encourage other flute players of all levels to giver her a try!"
