I'm a casual, easy-going, caring person, and I enjoy establishing a unique working relationship with each student.
I have been teaching flute for about twenty years.
In teaching I employ a personal, individual, flexible approach, to give my students each what benefits him/her the most. I emphasize proper technique, beauty of tone, musical interpretation, and enjoyment. Music theory is intertwined with the instruction. And we play lots of duets!
I also play the piano, thus sometimes accompany my flute students.

About Diane
I have been playing the flute since fifth grade, a long time! I have taught flute privately for about twenty years.
My second degree is an AA in Music from Grossmont College, near San Diego, CA. As a flutist I have been a member of both the La Jolla Civic Orchestra and the Grossmont Symphony Orchestra.
Since 1989 I have been the principal flute and a soloist with the San Diego Concert Band. In that group I regularly lead flute sectional rehearsals.
Since 2007, I have been a flute coach every summer at San Diego's Band at the Beach music camp for junior high and high school students.

I have been taking flute lessons from Ms. Wilson for close to 4 months now and its been a great experience so far. I had very little idea of music and had no such formal training but wanted to learn flute. She is supportive from day 1 and started to teach me the basics of music and flute. She is very calm, listens to my problems when I don't get some things easily and tries to suggest solutions. She has been very flexible in class timings and adjusts her schedule to accommodate me when I can't make it to the class on some days. I wish I get to learn a lot from her and become a good flutist.

Mrs. Krystmas is awesome. My daughter was really intimidated trying to learn to play the flute for 5th grade band. When she started, she could get it to make a sound at all. She talked about "hating band" and how she couldn't wait until the end of the year so she could quit. Mrs. Krystmas turned all of that around in 5 lessons. Now she looks forward to going to both her lessons and band at school. She asked me sign her up for more lessons! Thanks Mrs. Krystmas!

Marianne is a fantastic instructor. She has the most important thing needed in teaching music, in particular beginners, PATIENCE. If you don't have that as a music teacher you are in the wrong field. Before the 1st lesson she asked me a series of questions with regards to my experience with the oboe to help her set up a lesson plan for me which was great. She doesn't treat you like "you're a beginner, here is what you need" (the "Cookie cutter approach"). I highly recommend Marianne as a teacher and look forward to my musical journey on the Oboe with her as my mentor and teacher.

I've been teaching the flute for 10 years and I am comfortable working with all age groups and ability levels.

Several of my students have participated in San Diego Honor Band as well as San Diego Youth Symphony. Preparation is the key to success, and I specialize in coaching students for auditions.

I also focus on duets and tone studies to help you unlock the beautiful sound of this instrument.

Music theory is an integral part of each lesson (as well as some basic piano concepts which can be very useful to woodwind players). Jazz conception and improvisation is also a specialty!

About Ian
I've been teaching woodwinds (saxophone, flute, and clarinet) for the past 15 years and enjoy the one-on-one interaction with students of all ages. Music is one of the last professions that is truly learned through apprenticeship. Having a good private teacher is absolutely essential to your growth and development!

Over the years I've amassed wide variety of concepts and materials to speed your learning process and keep things FUN. I've taught all ages and abilities: new beginners (elementary and middle school level), older students just picking up the horn again, conservatory-bound high school students, amateur professionals, marching band & drum core kids, retirees looking for a fun hobby, professional musicians looking to expand their jazz knowledge, and more. We'll start at your level and expand from there! Styles I've performed in
include classical, jazz, latin, pop, fusion, rock, funk, and more.

I encourage all my students to enjoy exploring the SOUND of their instrument and to find their own voice. Lessons include everything from reading and basic stylistic concepts, to improvisation, learning songs, playing along with recordings of your favorite players, and jazz transcription. I am a graduate of the University of North Texas Jazz Studies program and have over 15 years of teaching experience. I'm currently adjunct faculty at USD Dept of Music, Mesa College, and have taught as a clinician/coach for numerous high school and middle school programs. In the past I’ve had the opportunity to study with many inspiring musicians and I enjoy passing on the tradition to new students!

I am a beginning Tenor Sax student and a senior citizen. I have played other instruments years ago, but never a woodwind instrument. Ian has been a marvelous instructor for me. Although I had never picked up a sax until December 2014, he already has taught me how to play several simple tunes and a number of scales. His patience and sensitivity to the appropriate pace is impecable. He also keeps me informed of other activities - concerts, recordings, community events to reinforce my interest. I would recommend Ian as a music teacher to anyone without reservation or hesitation.

In lessons, I will teach students how to develop an embouchure and make sound, have proper technique, discuss equipment care, how to read music and develop note recognition, and ultimately, play music. The goal is to get my students playing with proper technique, so that this will carry on throughout their career and playing of the instrument. After getting some sounds out of the instrument and having decent technique, students will be assigned 1-2 songs to work on each lesson. It is the learning of music on one's own, that I believe, truly challenges the student to continue to apply information given in lessons.

About Eric
Hi! I'm Eric, a Saxophonist, Composer, Singer, and Teacher that was born and raised in Southern California. I've been playing the saxophone for over ten years now, writing music for as long as I can remember, and singing since I was in elementary school. I play for a variety of groups in Los Angeles, and sometimes perform in L.A. and surrounding areas at venues such as the LightHouse, Saint Rocke, Avalon, The Mint, and the Baked Potato.

I keep my lessons fun, efficient, and applicable. I give students assignments to work on, not only so they don't forget what we talk about, but also so they can also expand upon the concepts given in lessons, (which familiarizes them more with the information). I look forward to helping you unlock your potential!

My passion for music and the arts is matched only by my passion for teaching and sharing my knowledge.
Students of mine have quickly become principles of their band and orchestras and have made it into the top seats of their honor bands.
Within the first month, knowledge of scales, arpeggios, and fingerings will be mastered - and soon enough, fingers will be flying!
Each Lesson is tailored to the student to allow for the greatest amount of development in the shortest amount of time.

About Jeremy
Jeremy discovered passion when he picked up the flute late his junior year of high school. After only a year of being self-taught he quickly became principle flutist of his school’s top band, the district orchestra, and the district honor band. During his studies at San Diego State University, under the instruction of Pamela Vliek Martchev, he performed with the San Diego City Ballet (2013), Opera Neo (2015), as well as SDSU’s top performing groups, the Symphony Orchestra (2013-2016) and Wind Symphony (2011-2015). He has also performed in numerous musical productions such as Into the Woods, Les Misérables, West Side Story, and Annie. Jeremy has competed in the San Diego Flute Guild competitions twice, placing 3rd in 2013 and earning Silver in 2016’s college division.

Currently, Jeremy works as a freelance musician and private instruct
or for the San Diego region where he aims to create and develop enriching musical experiences for his audiences and students.

I work with the student to develop a curriculum based on their musical interests and my own teaching pedagogy. I strongly feel that for young musicians to own their education, they must have a say in what they play. Assigning method books and mindless etudes to practice doesn't have nearly the same effect asking them "Ok, what kind of music do YOU like? What do you want to PLAY? What do you want to LEARN?".

I believe that students learn best when they are invested in a subject, and the best way to get them invested is to individually get to know each one, speak to them on their level, and get them playing music they're interested in.

About Jon
I'm a professional performer, educator, and recording artist. I received my Masters in Music from New Mexico State University, and my BA and BMA from the College of Wooster in Ohio.

Students can expect to improve their technique and performing repertoire within a matter of weeks. We will collaborate to find music that he or she is interested in, plus work on exercises that will build technique and sound quality. It doesn’t matter WHAT you’re playing, but HOW you play it.

I’ve been a musician for over 20 years and played in a wide variety of settings. In lessons, I’ll draw from that experience to help students achieve their musical goals.

As a performing artist, I’ve played in classic big bands, small jazz combos, and R&B style horn sections, just to name a few. I’m passionate about classical music, jazz, R&B, and funk, but good
technique is good technique, and a proficient musician should and can jump from one style to another with ease.

Do you want to learn how to play the flute? Look no further!

During a Corinne flute lesson, you will learn how to create beautiful sounds first and foremost. This is the basis of great flute playing.

Once you are producing some quality sounds, we will move on to learning notes, reading music, and accomplishing your goals!

Aside from perfecting flute technique, we will also work on musicality and listening skills! These skills are important in bringing music to life.

If you already know how to play the flute, but would like a little more help, I will continue your education in whatever direction you would like to go.

I look forward to working with you!

About Corinne
I'm a clarinet playing, elementary music teaching, high school clarinet directing, performing, dancing teacher.

I have taught students from 5-18 since I was in high school myself, and I truly love it. I love watching individuals succeed, and I love feeling like I play a part in the process.

When teaching lessons, you may not find me sitting down. Sometimes we'll stand up and move, conduct, create, and choreograph to better understand the music we're working on. Sometimes we'll lie on the floor to work on breathing exercises. Sometimes we'll draw imaginary paintings on the wall to find deeper meaning in what we're learning. It's not just about the notes and rhythms. They are extremely important, but that is not where music ends.

My goal is to make you excited to see me and play your instrument. It is excitement and drive that wil
l help you succeed.

When I'm not teaching, you can find me playing my own instruments by myself or with my band. You can even find me breaking out my tap shoes to dance and play my instruments at the same time.

I am excited to work with you!
