I will help you discover your best voice in a fun and healthy way! You do not need to have a musical background, all levels of experience are welcome! You will learn vocal technique that protects and strengthens your voice so that you can approach new songs with confidence and freedom! Students will also learn basic music theory and gain a better understanding of reading music.

Mary Elizabeth D is a New York City based musical theater actress and honor graduate from Oklahoma City University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Musical Theater. She has 10 years of performance and vocal technique training and was most recently seen as Philia in Pittsburgh Public Theater’s production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Miss D has performed in leading roles in twelve productions and toured nationally. Some favorite roles include Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Cosette in Les Miserable, Luisa in The Fantasticks, and Cinderella in Into the Woods.

When studying with me students will develop the musicianship skills needed to be a well-rounded, real world musician. You will learn music that interests you, as well as, be exposed to genres and music styles you might not be privy to. Your vocal health is of utmost importance to me and we will focus on developing a resonate tone, free of unnecessary tension; In addition to, strengthening your diaphragmatic breathing techniques and aligning your body position. All while developing your sight-reading, music theory, and acting/performance skills and working together to overcome any obstacles you may face in the process.

A voice is as unique as a thumbprint! You will learn how to use your voice in a healthful way to bring out your own beautiful, vibrant sound. We explore pieces that according to interest and appropriate to your level of development across genres (folk, musical theater, pop/rock, Disney, classical, Christian, and more). We develop music literacy and basic keyboard skills to give so you can learn music independently. We also learn about audition and performance etiquette, acting, and stage movement for singers doing theatrical work.
