About Jessica
Dear students and parents,

Hello and welcome to takelessons.com! My name is Jessica and I am classically trained violinist with over 20 years of playing experience. I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and recently relocated to Saint Louis County with my family. Music has always been passion of mine since a very young age, so it was inevitable that it would end up being my career. Naturally, a love for teaching the wonders of music followed suit!

I always try to form a great rapport with my students and parents from the very first lesson. For younger students, I encourage my parents to take an active part in both lessons and daily practice, as is encouraged by Shinichi Suzuki.

I've been teaching violin and viola professionally for over 12 years now. My experience includes teaching private lessons at students homes as wel
l as at various music schools, summer camps and festivals. A few advanced students have even attended and performed in some of these aforementioned festivals! I am always encouraging my students to go above and beyond.

A bit of background about me: I started my music studies at the age of 7. Lessons and orchestra were literally the highlight of my childhood. I ended up attending the Baltimore School for the Arts for high school, and went on to receive my Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Shenandoah University and complete further studies in England, Northern Ireland and Maryland (UMBC graduate certificate). I am also a registered Suzuki Violin/Viola teacher and have attended many teachers workshops in order to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to work with any and all types of students, including those with learning disabilities, such as ADD and FAS.

*** Lesson Details ***
While I am a registered Suzuki violin teacher, I do not teach solely out of a certain method or "by the book"; I choose and mold every lesson depending on specific, strengths, weaknesses, etc. If you are a more advanced, serious player, more intensive lessons and repertoire will follow suit.

I am comfortable teaching all ages and levels up to advanced. Use of games make learning the violin fun and accessible for young children. Older and more advanced students receive a more technical, intensive and advanced approach. Coaching and weekly help on school assigned materials (orchestra/string class music and homework) Classical, Jazz, Gypsy and Fiddle styles are all introduced and studied to give students a rounded technique. Music theory (reading and understanding music) is incorporated in lessons. Repertoire is diverse and exciting. Various approaches for the visual or aural learner. Guaranteed to keep you or your child engaged and interested!

*** Equipment and Studio Lesson Details ***

-If you are coming to my home for lessons, please be sure to bring your instrument and any books you may already have.

**Please note, there are three cats in the house. They are usually isolated to a different part of the house during lessons to ensure there are no unnecessary distractions and to help minimize potential allergies (studio is also sprayed with allergy reducer spray and vacuumed regularly). All are UTD on shots. Please call and ask to schedule a "trial" lesson to see if the animals interfere with allergies.

New students:
You may park on the cul-de-sac next to the house and walk down.
I have a trial 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 size violin to use for the first lesson if your child is a beginner.
After the first lesson I will send an email explaining what materials and equipment I recommend you buy to help you sound your best.

Places to rent or buy instruments will be recommended upon request.

*** Cancellation/Reschedule Requests ***
1) At least 24 hours notice is required if you need to cancel your, or your child's, lesson. You will be given the option to take a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons on your calendar, or the option to reschedule for a different day within a week of the canceled lesson.

2) If you find that you need to cancel with less than 24 hours notice you will be given the option to make up your lesson within 7 calendar days of your originally scheduled lesson time. If you cannot do a makeup lesson, this will result in the lesson being marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.

3) If you do not show up to your lesson scheduled at my home studio and no notice was given, the lesson will be marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.

4) If I need to reschedule or cancel a lesson for whatever reason, you will be given an option for a makeup lesson or given a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons.

5) I require two weeks notice to discontinue lessons if you would like to receive a refund or be exempt from paying future tuition.

6) All lessons are billed ahead of schedule and must be paid in advance in order to keep your lesson slot.

About Molly
15 years ago, I started learning to play piano and began my life-long pursuit of music. This pursuit has led me in a wide variety of directions. Today, I enjoy teaching piano and sharing the love of music to students of all ages and abilities.

I have a passion for a wide variety of styles of music. For several years, I played piano professionally for weddings, shows, and musicals. I have led worship for many churches in Michigan and Connecticut. During my time at Yale, I led an organization called Yale Musical Cure, in which I coordinated and played piano concerts at hospitals, hospices, and benefit concerts. At Yale, I also gained teaching experience, and have loved teaching students ever since. During my time in Chicago for grad school, I regularly taught weekly lessons for 15 students of all ages and held annual recitals. In my ther
apy practice now, I love working with children at all developmental levels and with all abilities, gifts, and needs.

My teaching style varies from student to student. Music is a wonderfully diverse subject and every student has her or his own aspirations. I will do my best to cater each lesson to the student's goals and interests, whether that is classical, rock, jazz, folk, country, pop or anything in between.

Lessons will vary significantly from student to student. Not only does every student have different goals in mind, they all learn differently as well. I do my best to customize my lessons for each student's goals and needs. A typical piano lesson may involve music-reading, chord studies, technical work, scale practice, theory, and of course learning songs!

I am a flexible teacher and am excited to teach students to truly understand music and enjoy playing the piano. Please reach out if you have any questions or interest in taking lessons.

I'm a professional actor/musician in NYC, currently playing the Fiddler in the hit off-Broadway revival of The Fiddler on the Roof, directed by Oscar and Tony award winner Joel Grey (2019 Drama Desk Winner Best Musical Revival). I am available for in-home, online, and in-studio lessons, where I can teach violin, flute, singing, acting, and English (ESL).

I received my BFA in Acting from Boston University's school of theater. As a classically trained singer, violinist and flautist, I've been able to incorporate my musical talents with my career as an actress. I play a range of professional gigs, from churches to rock concerts to pit orchestras. I had the chance to travel around the US, performing in theaters around the country for the Broadway national tour of the tony-award winning actor/musician musical, Once! My range of experience h
elps me cater lessons to you and your specific needs.

I have been teaching music and theater for over 5 years, and two years ago I began teaching ESL to elementary students in Turkey. I fell in love with teaching English, and feel my training in theater and music helps me use different, exciting teaching techniques in our lessons. I am conversational in both Turkish and Spanish as well!

No matter if we're working on music, acting, or English, I'm incredibly committed to my students and want each lesson to be fun and motivational. I'm a patient, supportive teacher, and know that each student is unique and moves at his/her own pace! Please reach out to me, and I will be happy to answer your questions!

We love Lauren. She is making violin a great experience for our daughter (11 yrs old). She is very thorough and encouraging, and introduces interesting music that is fun and challenging for a beginner student. Our daughter says she can truly feel her own improvement, and is really happy to have additional lessons with Lauren, beyond what she receives in school. Lauren is flexible with scheduling and very reliable, and we intend to stick with her - and with the violin- for the duration!

Lauren Thomas is an excellent musician with a tremendous amount of patience and a seemingly boundless supply of talents. As a fellow musician who has played professionally alongside Lauren, I have witnessed first hand her skilled mastery of both the flute and the violin -- as intuitive as she is technically proficient. Apart from her musical abilities, she's kind, fun and sensitive and would make for either a great beginner violin teacher or as an instructor for someone with intermediate skills looking to expand their abilities. Cannot recommend her highly enough! Whether you're seeking instruction in the flute or the violin, Lauren's the woman for the job.

About Leah
Leah, a teacher, singer/songwriter, musician, entertainer and Berklee College of Music graduate.

She loves teaching and loves her students. Her main joy in teaching is watching her students grasp a new understanding and appreciation for their desired art and growing in their skills and talent. She loves seeing her students overcome obstacles. In her lessons, Leah sets the tone for care and a safe space to truly grow fearlessly. It is important to grow in confidence in your craft. In lessons, she covers setting a foundation, different genres, confidence, warm-up exercises, vocal techniques, ear training, music theory, harmony, performance techniques, audition preparation, range, improvisation, agility, freedom and more. She focusses on a few things at a time and has her students grow into other areas to work.

Musically, she provides
sounds and smooth tones of Jazz and Soul. Her latest EP entitled SonKissed is Jazz influenced music with Neo-Soul vibes and a positive message about love and life. She has been singing around Boston and New York and writing and recording new music. She has great things in store for her in the near future and much music and passion to share with the world.

Originating from Henderson, North Carolina, she grew up singing in school, church and choirs including the Raleigh Girls Choir of Raleigh, NC. Taking singing and piano lessons grew her love for music. She always had a fondness of jazz music starting at a young age, as her father would play jazz music. Studying music has led her to perform in recitals, concerts and festivals such as the Mozart Music Festival with The Capital City Girl’s Choir in Vienna, Austria, to study and perform abroad in Valencia, Spain, to graduate from Berklee College of Music and to continue writing, performing and growing as an artist. Leah also enjoys being involved in and performing in community events as she gives back. It is very important to her to help others as many have helped her.

She gets much of her inspiration from influences such as Jesus Christ, her parents, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Dianne Reeves, Lisa Fischer, Sammy Davis Jr., Sade, Anita O’day, India Arie, Erykah Badu, Adele, Diana Ross, Alicia Keys, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Mary Mary, Robin Thicke, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Esperanza Spalding, Miles Davis, Al Jarreau, Nancy Wilson, Ledisi, Sounds of Blackness, Take 6, Gretchen Parlato, and Quincy Jones just to name a few.

My 7-year-old daughter A. took piano lessons from Ms. Yuliya for a year. We would have stayed with her indefinitely had she not moved away. I think Yuliya is a wonderful teacher for children and for adults. In my opinion, she individualizes her approach for each student. Yuliya is kind but firm; patient but has expectations! She is the consummate teacher. My daughter A. had never been taken piano lessons prior to her year with Ms. Yuliya and her music reading was not where it should have been. Under Yuliya's tutelage (she has her own method on how to teach children to read music) however, I would say she caught on quite well. I was deeply pleased to see that Yuliya sets the bar high. And, my child rose to the challenge. Yuliya uses the lesson time very well. Her lessons include a wide diversity of skill development through the usual collection of level appropriate performance and practice books. A’s repertoire of music she can play grew very much this past year. Our daughter was happy to play her Christmas song for her first recital and then Spring piano recital, also she performed at the Maryland State Spring Festival Piano Solo an got rated as Excellent!!! Then she performed at Twenty-second annual Sonatina and Sonata Festival and got a certificate of achievement in musical performance in level one!!! Also, she performed at Rockville Competition and got a Superior!!! And all these thanks to our amazing teacher Ms. Yuliya!!! We love and miss her so much!!!

About Cassandra
Hi there! My name is Cassandra, and I'm a vocalist, stage performer, and teacher. I'm 23 years old, and hold a degree in music from the Stetson University School of Music. I've been teaching since I was in college, and I have experience with students of all ages. I'm a trained opera singer, and specialize in classical vocal technique, but I also perform and teach musical theatre as well.

Outside of teaching, I perform regularly in both classical and musical theatre settings. Past opera roles include Papagena in Die Zauberflote, Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica, Kate in Pirates Of Penzance, and Mrs. Herring in Albert Herring. Past musical credits include Amalia in She Loves Me, Johanna in Sweeney Todd, Peter in Peter & The Starcatcher, and Miss Dorothy Brown in Thoroughly Modern Millie. I have gotten to perform in numerous notable venues
both nationally and internationally, including Carnegie Hall, the National Opera Center, and at the Interharmony Music Festival in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Germany.

With me, students can expect a heavy emphasis on the development of healthy vocal technique, through use of learned exercises and in the pieces of music they learn. My curriculum is tailored to the student's goals. I am very happy to help a student prepare for auditions or competitions of any kind, or help them with music from a possible production they've been cast in. Or if someone just wants to learn to sing, I'm happy to be of service!
