I wasn't Tom's student per se but he and I went over lots of material for our various cover bands and he's a very thorough, patient teacher, very adamant about getting parts exactly right but willing to listen to occasional disagreements. highly recommended!

my experience

Tom really knows his way around a bass. Each time I go for a lesson, i leave happy about the things we've accomplished in the lesson. Anything that i would like to learn Tom makes it possible for me to do so. I started getting lessons in order to not slow down on my playing. With my schedule constantly changing Tom has been very nice at accommodating when possible.

About Nathan
I have been teaching private lessons for close to 10 years and have been an active performer for even longer, playing in all different types of groups, from rock bands and jazz groups to orchestras and brass bands. I studied music at Frostburg State University (Bachelors) and the Peabody Conservatory (Masters). I can teach just about any age and skill level and cover anything you are interested in learning; whether its a certain style, genre, technique or song.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are laid back, with a focus on perfecting the basics. Most students work out of a method book appropriate to their skill level. Aside from that we'll also spend time learning songs and pieces of the students choice. With the right amount of effort, you'll know your way around your instrument in no time at all

*** Travel Equipment ***
Will provide sheet music and exercises. My students should have a working instrument as well as any method book or sheet music we are working on.

*** Specialties ***
I teach all styles and genres

About Detrece
DeTrece "Dee" Lavender is a native of Miami, Florida. When her family moved to Sarasota, she was afforded the opportunity to study music and the performing arts as a student of the Westcoast School/Henry L. Porter School of Music. It was then that Dee began to understand the power of the creative arts as an effective form of emotional expression and release. By middle school, DeTrece began fine tuning her natural talents by studying classical voice which earned her several starring roles in the Sarasota Youth Opera, The Aslo Theater and the Players Theater. She is also a proud former member of the Westcoast Black Theater Troop in Sarasota, FL. Under the caring leadership of these opportunities, she was able to combine musical and life experiences in order to offer a more well rounded educational and musical experience for her students.

She was awarded a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where she received a dual Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy and Vocal Performance (Class of 2003). It was through her service as a music therapist, Millieu (residential) counselor and music teacher in the Boston City Public Schools/Greater Boston Metropolitan Area, that she began to feel the call toward a greater understanding of the gravity and role of the socio-emotional needs of students (and their families/villages) in urban settings. This call brought her to Baltimore, MD where she enrolled in the Pastoral Counseling Masters of Science program at Loyola University. In addition to her studies, she currently teaches Elementary and Middle School choir/ Musicianship teacher in the Baltimore City Public Schools through the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's OrchKids Program. She also serves as Minister Of Music and Arts at two local churches.

I've had an amazing experience taking lessons from Sophia! She's taught me so much about breathing techniques and other aspects of singing that I was unaware of prior to our sessions. Sophia is very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Each lesson with her builds some more confidence and understanding, and I feel that she's able to explain techniques to a beginner like myself in a very simple way.

I am a producer, and hired Sophia to come to my studio and coach a singer I am working with. She was instrumental in getting the lead vocal takes recorded and creating a positive environment for the singer, which also takes a lot of patience. We got the best takes I've heard from the artist by far. I learned so much in the process as well. Her techniques seem endless in helping a vocalist get the sound they are seeking. She's clearly gifted with an unbelievable and infectious voice which makes learning from her all the more easy and enjoyable. Sophia also has a great ear for vocal production, given her extensive background as a session vocalist. She went to Berklee College of Music so she is also proficient with music theory. On top of all of that she's hilarious and the session was a blast. Highly recommended, she's a monster talent!

It has been a great experience for my daughter working with Sophia. We've tried other singing coaches before but we've hit a home run with Sophia! She has an awesome way of relating to my 16 year old to where every class is a fun and learning experience for her. She's helped her with technique, confidence and vocal exercises that have been extremely helpful! As a Dad that's always looking out for my children's best interest I am truly happy with her services, a true professional! Thank you! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

About Melanie
Hi!
I have been playing piano for 18 years and am excited to share the passion with others!

Music has been a special part of my life since I was 4 years old. I took lessons for 10 years and continued to play in college for the Naval Academy Women's Glee Club as the accompanist. While with the Glee Club, I had the opportunity and honor to sing for two Presidents and play piano for one, and sing with Beyonce as part of Obama's Inauguration Celebration.

I specialize in teaching children as I put a great emphasis on fun! I want students to have joy playing before it gets difficult in order to encourage them to play longer. Part of that is I encourage learning songs that they are interested in tandem with the course so they continue to love what they play.

I'd love to meet you and share my love with you.

Melanie was an amazing piano instructor for my twin daughters. They very much enjoyed every lesson with her. She used creative and kind methods to get them to practice and enjoy learning.

We were very sad to learn she was moving (but understood wanting to be closer to family). If you're lucky enough to have her near you, don't hesitate!

I have been playing guitar for 15 years and have been teaching for eight. I began taking lessons at a young age where I discovered my passion for guitar, song writing and performing; I then followed that passion to Sydney Australia where I studied music (guitar focused) for three years at Hillsong Internatonal Leadership College. While there, I played with various Hillsong teams, including Hillsong Live, Hillsong Youth where I wrote songs and guitar parts and performed with my own bands. I worked for Bethel Church in Richland as music director upon returning from Australia where I lead and coached various musicians as well as writing songs and recording on the side. I have spent the last few years performing and building up leadership skills as well as guitar experience and expertise as a musician and teacher. I have a HUGE passion for h
elping students discover their strengths as musicians and then developing the skills necessary to pursue them. I provide a fun, challenging and unique learning experience for all sorts of guitar players interested in growing their knowledge and skills.
Let me know if you think we would work well together!
