With my own practice, I want to expand the horizons of music and where it can take me. Because of this, I plan to structure each of your lessons around growth and patience. Often the best way to improve is to gradually start with the root of your struggles and built from there.

Lessons:
***EXTRA VIOLA for in-person lessons*** Beginners who don’t have an instrument yet can use my 15’’ viola during their lesson. Typically that size would be played comfortably by a child, but if you have any questions please let me know.

For lessons at my home or in the community center, parents/guardians are welcome to sit in.

Adult beginners are also welcome!

Some examples of the things you may want to work on:
-performance skills/etiquette
-intonation
-strings methods
-bow work
-scales
-ensemble playing (quartet, orchestra, chamber, etc)
-practice tips

I have been taking online trumpet lessons with Vinnie for years now. I have also studied in person with Vinnie, and played in Vinnie's band. I feel so lucky to be able to take lessons from one of the best trumpet players in the world. Vinnie has helped me progress in many areas including jazz improvisation. Vinnie has a warm personality and is very patient. In my 50 years of playing trumpet, Vinnie is by far the best teacher I have ever had. Vinnie plays so well, and performs in so many places all over the world, I can't even begin to describe his personal talent. However, on a personal level, he is easy to relate to and study with. I have known Vinnie for 35 years in the world of music. He is a colleague that I hold in the highest regard. I have had the great pleasure of performing alongside him in a number of different situations. As a sideman we have performed music on an extremely high level, everything from Jazz Standards, originals, to Weather Report etc. Vinnie's abilities as trumpeter and educator are tremendous, world class all across the board. He is great reader and his improvisation is of the highest order, creative, inventive, with thematic development and harmonic depth in the single line.

I have known, performed with, and taught with Vincent for over thirty years. I am a professional trombonist and the Performing Arts Chair at Saddle River Day School. I ran an Arts-In-Education band that performed big band jazz at schools in the NYC area for over twelve years, and Vincent was a band member. Vincent is one of the world's greatest trumpet players and jazz improvisers, and he is an excellent communicator. I have watched Vincent teach countless times, and he loves working with young people and passing along his craft and experience. He has a very warm personality and a great sense of humor. I perform regularly with Vincent in a variety of world-class ensembles, and just standing next to him on the band-stand is like taking a lesson!

Ron has been my piano instructor for the past three years. I find him to be very knowledgeable in jazz as well as classical music. He goes above the allotted time to ensure your understanding of instructions, and maintains a professional demeanor at all times, even with wit in his oral approach. I would not hesitate to recommend him for piano instruction at all levels!

"Jeff Stetson is & has been my #1 recommendation to learn to play music for 20+ years!

Jeff was probably the best thing to happen to me as a teenager. I took bass lessons from Jeff for 5 years & in that time, my world of music expanded as did my skills in playing music. My lessons with Jeff prepared me well enough to enter into college level music courses. If I had an audition, Jeff zeroed in on what I needed to know & helped me get the gig. His study techniques work, if you work em'! He will show you what you want & you will get a whole lot more. Ask him about the Louie Louie/Wild Thing thread & you will get the history & learn to play R-n-R, the Blues, R.n.B, Funk. & the foundations of Jazz. All levels, all styles, Jeff Stetson is my #1 recommendation for learning music. Thanks Jeff, I am positive you helped keep me out of trouble & possibly jail too."

"If you are an adult beginner, or "re-beginner," or really anyone wanting to learn and improve, then look no further!!! Emily is hands down the best music instructor I've had the pleasure to study under. As someone with performance anxiety, she helped me feel comfortable playing and was always encouraging--never an unkind word and never made me feel uncomfortable for making mistakes! She truly cares about her students' improvement and that her students find joy in creating music. Emily's knowledge and background is astounding! Need music recommendations? She has them. Need instrument recommendations? She knows what's what. Interested in the history behind music theory and interpretation of classical pieces, she can refer you to countless materials. Emily is a fountain of knowledge and talent. One really cannot find a more wonderful instructor."

"Heidi is an awesome flute instructor and I'm so glad I found her for my daughter. She's upbeat, positive, encouraging, and patient. It is obvious she love music and loves sharing her knowledge. With that said I would also like to add that she is a very accomplished musician and not only knows the subject matter but is excellent at imparting that gift to my daughter. Heidi has many tricks up her sleeve to aid her student's progress including video homework excercises and additional websites for practice that I would never have found on my own. She's incredibly proficient with how to use the computer for lessons and has kindly worked with us to navegate Skype, fix glitches, find additional sheet music, and advised us on purchasing new music and a new flute. She is very good at motivating my daughter and she continually comes up with new exercises and websites to use in order to nudge her a little bit more into developing new skills while challenging her as well. Heidi is thoughtful, considerate, and has spent time getting to know us and remembering details of our lives. Our lives are busy and schedules always change but Heidi is very amenable to making adjustments. I would highly recommend using Heidi as a teacher and have mentioned on many occasions to friends how great she is AND we don't have to leave the house, big bonus!"

Carlos made me feel very comfortable and wow, did I ever learn a lot in this first lesson. I used to play the piano when I was quite young but have lost much of my ability. Carlos helped me with the keyboard in addition to teaching me correct breathing and testing my voice range. I look forward to my lesson next week!"

Piano Recitals Aren't Just for Kids! Here's Why

Most people think of piano recitals as strictly ways for young pianists to showcase their skills for proud family members. But adults can benefit from performances and recitals, as well!
