I have had a vocal coach before meeting Pam, but she absolutely took it to another level. Pamela does a good job with teaching the mechanics of singing, as she pin points which muscles the body is using and how to use them properly when singing. She has a variety of warm ups and stretches to get your voice and body prepared to perform and is very good and pushing you to become your best. If you are a serious singer and would like to take the knowledge of your craft a step further, I would definitely recommend.

Pamela is a teacher.

Pamela was very patient with my young daughter. She taught her the beginning stages of reading music and her voice became clearer and louder because of the confidence she gained during her sessions. I would recommend Pamela as a singing instructor for any age but she was so patient and encouraging for my young daughter. We loved it.

I have been teaching voice for 30 years. I teach all levels - beginning through advanced. Singing with excellent technique and development of your artistry are the goals of my teaching. You will learn classical songs as well as songs in whatever style you choose. If you do not read music, I will teach you. We will also study solfege which is a method of ear training and sight reading. Lessons begin with vocal exercises and move on to singing songs.

About Barbara
I have been singing for as long as I can remember. It is my very favorite activity. I have transformed my love of singing into a career.

I have been teaching music lessons for over 25 years. When you study with me you will have the advantage of that experience. I have extensive experience teaching students of all ages. Throughout my teaching career I have taught students with varied backgrounds and diverse needs. If you are a person who was told not to sing by your music teacher, don't give up! I have taught many children and adults to match pitches and improve their singing voices.

I earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Moravian College and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Temple University. While at Temple, I studied standard vocal repertoire and Early Music. I have also completed graduate course
s in Early Childhood and Elementary Education at West Chester University.

I served on the faculty of Suburban Music School for 17 years where I taught voice, piano and recorder lessons. I also directed the Children’s Choir and the Women’s Choir. I was formerly on the faculty of Delaware County Community College where I taught courses in the Music Department; and of Temple Music Prep where I instituted, developed and maintained a vocal program at Temple University’s Ambler Campus.

In addition to teaching I was employed for eleven years as a chorister at Christ Church Christiana Hundred in Greenville, DE where I have had the opportunity to sing for such notable conductors as John Rutter, Sir David Wilcox, Sir Philip Ledger, Stephen Cleobury, and James O’Donnell. Previous choral work has included singing for Dr. Ifor Jones and for Michael Korn. I perform in solo and chamber music recitals throughout the Philadelphia area and in Cape May, NJ and with a Celtic group called Celtic Women and Friends.

Voice Lessons

When you study voice with me, you will start with the basics - posture, breathing and tone production. If you have studied before, we will review these areas and brush up on anything that needs work. The next step is to learn some vocal exercises to warm up and develop your voice. When the exercises are going well, we will begin to work on songs. You will need to learn some classical songs because they help to develop your voice, but we will also work on the kind of music you like best. In addition to songs, we will work on solfege (do, re, mi, etc.) which helps to train your ear and to improve your sightreading ability. If you don't know how to read music I will teach you that. If you read music but have some gaps in your knowledge, we will fill those in.

I teach what is called bel canto (beautiful singing). It is a healthy vocal technique that will help you avoid vocal problems. When you learn to sing with this technique, you can sing any style of music you want. After a few months of study, you should be able to tell that your voice is growing stronger, that you have better breath control, and that your range is increasing.

Although I have high expectations of my students, I am relaxed and friendly. If you love to laugh, we will enjoy that together!

Piano Lessons

When you study piano with me you will enjoy playing a variety of songs from your lesson book. As you advance, we may add a repertoire book which increases the number and variety of songs you play. There are many excellent piano methods. I use different methods for different students, depending on their needs.

Lessons will include posture and proper hand position, warm-ups, songs and music theory. Music theory is the study of notation and how music is put together. You will have a workbook with exercises for this study. If there is a particular style of music you would like to play, we will look for music at your level to add to your lesson. After a few months of study, you should know how to read basic notation and be able to play a number of songs. You will also have increased your knowledge of musical notation and harmony.

I expect my students to practice in preparation for their lesson every week. I am relaxed and friendly, so that should help to put you at your ease.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, music stand, stereo equip, seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching the bel canto style singing. With this technique, a person can sing any style of music she or he chooses.

Lessons consist of learning a solid vocal technique, and learning various repertoire from Broadway, pop, to classical. Also, performing skills will be incorporated, so that the singer feels comfortable acting the song as well. I strongly believe that singers must be actors, and that is what makes us different from instrumentalists. It is also a lot of fun! For children or adults who are willing, I also teach sight singing and spend some of the lessons time learning some basic reading skills.

Lessons on Singing will draw from Erik's vast experience as a music director and faculty member at New York University's famed voice program. Lessons can focus on a variety of areas including learning new material, preparing for auditions, refining performance, acting, and improving vocal technique.

About Erik
Pianist, music director, and vocal coach, Erik was born and raised in Eastern Washington state. He has been heard all across the northwest and beyond, in cities including Seattle, Portland, Tacoma, NYC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Houston, and internationally in Prague and Salzburg. Erik has been a guest artist at Whitman College, Portland State University, The Kairos Chamber Music Lyceum, California State University Summer Arts, the West Seattle Symphony, and the Gig-Harbor Peninsula Symphony Orchestra. In addition to performing, Erik’s passion for teaching has led him to be an adjudicator for various festivals including the Washington Sonata-Sonatina Festival and the Washington Regional Solo and Ensemble Festival.

Erik is currently the Music Director for the National Tour of Kander and Ebb's timeless musical Cabaret. This produc
tion will be on tour until May 21st all across North America. Broadway.com's review of the opening night in Nashville praised the musicianship of the show, "Musical director Erik Flaten's musicians are impressive in their dexterity: At one moment, they are providing rich interpretations of the memorable John Kander score, while perhaps at the next they are playing denizens of the Kit Kat Klub or neighborhood thugs, wastrels and other folks of questionable repute. Flaten and his band are given their own richly deserved moments in the spotlight at the top of Act Two and the music director himself is given the well-earned final bow at the end of the curtain call.

Newly relocating to the East Coast, Erik is highly sought after for his collaborative work with both instrumentalists and vocalists. He is comfortable in all musical styles and genres, and has an extensive knowledge of music history and theory.

Students of Erik have the opportunities to perform in studio recitals and workshops.

I like to balance both the science and the intuitive as a teacher, and think both are equally important. I come with a strong background in voice anatomy as well as an intuitive sense of physical and vocal tensions. I use a trusty toolkit of exercises and "voice hacks" to help achieve your best sound as easily as possible.

In each lesson I'll assess and learn your voice through specific exercises first, followed by working through the music you love to help you achieve increased vocal freedom and the level of expression you desire. The focus is on the balance of ease and effort - with the occasional yoga pose thrown in for good measure. :)

About Jacqueline
Hello! Here's a little about me:
Whether it's the voice, piano, guitar, or some acting chops, I have pursued the arts passionately throughout my entire life. The motivation to look at things from as many perspectives as possible has driven me to have a unique toolkit of practices to bring to any teaching situation.

Creds, Street: I began performing professionally since the age of 7 as a singer, dancer, and actor in the regional theater scene. Once I got into songwriting, I taught myself how to record, and now gig around the Philadelphia and Lancaster areas.

Creds, Academic: I have a BA in Music, studied theater with SU in NYC, and have an MA in Music Therapy (board-certified). I've been a practicing music therapist for the last 5 years at a Philly children's hospital, as well as an assisted living facility on the mainline.

Hello there!

So you want to sing?! Great!

No matter whether you wish to sing Pop, Rock, Opera, Country, Blue, R&B, Gospel, Contemporary Christian, Classical, musical theatre etc it is important to have a reliable TECHNIQUE that you develop over time.

I spent almost 4 years studying Vocal Performance in University and graduated early with high honors. I can teach you what I learned and what I had to figure out on my own to develop the technique which recently landed me a role in an Emmy-winning tour.

If you're ready to do the work necessary to sing well, hit me up!

Make a great day!

About Francois
Hello again!

Singing is about passion. It is about engaging the spirit of a work or a song and finding what that means for you. Maybe you're just starting out in your journey and want to develop a reliable technique. Maybe you sing every so often but you want to get serious. Maybe you'd like your child to get that role, that solo, or simply have them develop into a professional singer. Maybe you want to sing solos in your faith group, friend's wedding, karaoke, or just want to pursue a passion!

If so, you've come to the right place.

I can teach you the basics of singing which lie in breathing and supporting the breath as it escapes your body in the making of sounds in the form of words.

The technical side is important but so is the expressive side. It is important to tell a story when you sing and be convinced of that story yourself.
That is why I encourage people to sing songs that mean something to you.

If you would like to refine your technique, develop the technique, or just add to your ability to sing, then do contact me and let's set up a lesson to see how I can help your voice soar!

Make a great day and hope to hear from you soon!
