Hi there!
Would you just like to learn a few songs on the piano, violin or guitar? Or you'd like your child be become next Joshua Bell or Evgenij Kissin? My lessons are designed with each individual student in mind. I will start my lesson with introduction and proceed with warm-up routine. I always make sure that the student is comfortable with the pace that I am offering. I am mixing elements of music theory, history and performance techniques in order to help my student to embrace the beauty of music making experience. All my students are ready to perform at the recital after just 3-4 months of lessons.

It was my first lesson and now I have some idea how hold the violin and the bow. My homework is to practice a few notes on each string and then to practice playing the A scale. I think I can do it in two octaves. What is challenging is to play the scale without hearing a screeching sound. I'm looking forward to playing like Sarah Chang (hopefully after five lessons).

I began piano lessons at four years of age, and was blessed to have an amazing piano teacher, who taught me for 14 years. She gave me a passion to teach others and impart to them a love for music. I have carried on that calling and taught hundreds of adults and children over the last 30 years. I am very thorough in my method and customize each lesson around the goals and dreams of each student. I incorporate theory, ear training and technical into all my lessons, regardless of the style of music they are learning. This gives my students an all-round musical education and appreciation for this wonderful gift they have in their hands.

I have experience in the professional music world as a pianist and french horn player, performing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Australian Opera Chorus and Orchestra, Sydney Sinfonia, Sydney Philharmo
nic Orchestra and Choir, as well as productions of "Cats", "Phantom of the Opera", Sesame Street, and touring all over Australia, U.S.A. and Israel. I have also been a part of the worship teams at Hillsong Church and C3 Church Australia.

I studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and also received my Licentiate Diploma from the Trinity College of London (L.T.C.L.) in French Horn (Teaching) and Licentiate Diploma from the Trinity College of London (L.T.C.L.) in Piano (Performance). I offer my flute students of all ages and levels inspiring and interesting lessons based on classical repertoire, exercises and studies from from the Western European traditions of mostly the French school of flute playing, but also borrowing from the English and German traditions.

I work with my students to develop and improve tone quality and pitch control. I guide them through Moyse, De La Sonorite, and Trevor Wye's Practice Book 1 on Tone and note bending exercises. While guiding my students through exercises, etudes and pieces, I strive to sharpen their listening skills by drawing their attention to fuzzy tone, faulty pitch, uneven fingers etc. I use tuners and metronomes in my lessons to encourage these skills and to teach my students how to practice to get great results.

Originally from Massachusetts, I have been teaching children and adults flute for over 20 years. I teach from the very beginner student to the very advanced and I have additional training in the Suzuki Method which is especially helpful for beginning young children. I am primarily a classical flute teacher with extensive experience playing in various classical music settings.

My approach is friendly and patient. As I get to know my students, I can better guide them to accomplish the goal of learning flute but, in the process, I never lose sight o the person whom I am teaching. It has to be a pleasant experience as well as challenging. I have learned throughout the years when to relax my expectations of perfection and when to intensify them. I am looking for a good attitude in my students. My students come to me trying their best during
the lesson time and also making time in their schedules to practice. Every student is different and has different goals. I consider the differences while I am teaching them. My younger students don't usually know how serious they are about the instrument. For them especially, it has to be fun and interesting. I make every effort to combine my students in small chamber music groups for recitals. Nearly all of my students participate in regular studio recitals with a pianist provided to accompany them.

Our son attended a neighborhood concert and was struck with the idea that he’d like to learn to play the flute. We knew absolutely nothing about flutes at that time, but we consider ourselves so, so fortunate that Frannie came to us by recommendation.

Frannie is fun and has a great sense of humor. She is endlessly patient and relaxed, but also firm when she needs to be. She always keeps the music interesting for him – for example, after a period of working hard on the pieces in the Suzuki Method repertoire, she encourages him to mix it up and play some things just for fun, like the popular themes to Star Wars and Harry Potter.

Our son, now 9, has been studying with Frannie for almost a year now, and I cannot believe how much he has grown and improved in such a short amount of time. Frannie inspires him to play his very best; he works hard to emulate her gorgeous tone. He absolutely loves his weekly lessons, he looks forward to her student recitals, and he is motivated to practice every day.

It is a beautiful thing to watch your child fall in love with making music, and we credit this to Frannie. She has our highest recommendation.

I took lessons with Frannie for more than ten years, starting at age 4 in an introduction to music class at the Brooklyn Music School. Through her I found not just a great love for music but a lens through which I discovered and learned about the world. With Frannie, once a week for nearly my entire childhood, I would learn to practice and work at a piece or phrase, or to interpret and have and opinion on music I played, or to play like I mean every note, and so on endlessly. Those skills were some of the earliest and most important lessons I had about how to live and enjoy my life, and art, and how to work hard, and care about what I do for my own sake and no one else's. And I don't believe just any teacher could have done that for me. Since moving on I have often felt a different excitement and deep understanding of music than many of the peers I met who have spent far more time than me studying music.

I'm still a musician. I graduated recently from Bard College with a degree in music and have since played onstage in a very successful off-broadway musical. I've played in many orchestras including with graduate & conservatory students at Bard, with the New York Youth Symphony Orchestra, and at LaGuardia High School (formerly Music & Art). I have moved on to other instruments, and forms of music, but I credit Frances not just for showing me how much I love music but for teaching me in many ways how to enjoy and get what I want from life. I can't recommend her enough.

My daughter Coco studied with Frances for a number of years. Without question Francis was the best music teacher Coco ever had, and she's had quite a few.
Francis is generous, creative, and inspiring to work with, she has the perfect balance of qualities that a music student needs. She's highly motivating and makes demands of her students which stretch them to achieve their full potential, yet she never pushes past their limits; Coco never felt stressed by her practice but always wanted to fulfill the expectation of excellence which Francis instilled in her. Dr. Carl S. will be teaching at Oklahoma State University as a Lecturer of Saxophone and Music Theory during Dr. Jeffrey Loeffert's sabbatical beginning August 2017. His responsibilities included Assistant Director of the KU Jazz Festival, directing Jazz Ensembles II-III, directing Jazz Combo III-VI, assisting with the KU Jazz Festival, directing Saxophone Quartets II-III, teaching private saxophone lessons, assisting in saxophone studio class, and teaching the music education woodwind methods course. His Lecture Recital Document, A Performer’s Analysis of Selected Jazz Works for Saxophone Quartet, featured an interview with Bob Mintzer. Carl was a member of KU Jazz Ensemble I, KU Saxophone Quartet I, and KU's Helianthus New Music Ensemble. As a member of KU's Jazz Ensemble 1, Carl has performed with Dave Douglas, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Alex Sipiagin, Steve Owen, Gary Foster, Steve Houghton, Clint Ashlock, David von Kampen, Peter Epstein, Jeff Miley, James Miley, Roger Shew, and Brian Hamada, Brandon Draper, Rich Wheeler, Beau Bledsoe, Jeff Harshbarger, and Matt Otto. In July 2014, Carl went on a European tour with KU Jazz Ensemble I featuring Steve Leisring and Deborah Brown. Together, they performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, the Vienne Jazz Festival in France, and performed in several cities in Germany. Recordings by this band resulted in KU winning the DownBeat Student Award (Graduate College Large Jazz Ensemble Division) in 2015.

While at OSU, Carl was a GTA for the saxophone studio and music theory programs. His responsibilities included Music Theory I-IV tutoring and grading, sight-singing grading, piano labs, classical and jazz saxophone lessons, saxophone quartet coaching, saxophone studio Webmaster, and saxophone studio class. Carl was a member of the OSU Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble 1. He had a regularly performing jazz trio and played in OSU's X2End saxophone quartet. The X2End quartet performed locally at the 2011 Navy Band Saxophone Symposium in Washington D.C., at the 2011 NASA Region IV Conference, and has won the state and division rounds of the 2010-2011 MTNA Chamber Music Competition. The X2End quartet went on to win the 3rd place prize at the national final round of the MTNA Chamber Music Competition. They also were the Division II Chamber Ensemble winners at the 2011 Hubbard Music Competition where they were awarded the 2nd place prize in the overall finals. Carl's final degree paper at OSU was a study of composer/performer collaboration. He traveled to Texas, Michigan, and Ohio to interview saxophonists and composers including David Dees, Peter Fischer, John Sampen,Marilyn Shrude, Joe Lulloff, and Charles Ruggiero. He has presented his lecture at the 2011 Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, the 2011 NASA Region IV Conference, and the 2012 OSU Single Reed Summit. As a member of OSU's Jazz Ensemble 1, he has performed with Bob Sheppard, Conrad Herwig, Wayne Bergeron, and Andy Martin.

While at SWOSU, Carl performed as a member of the marching band, wind ensemble, Jazz Ensemble A, saxophone quartet, and his own jazz combo named Five-Seven. As a member of SWOSU's Jazz Ensemble A, he has performed with Dan Haerle, Bob Bowman, Jack Mouse, Fred Forney, Janice Borla, Eddie Daniels, Pamela York, Lynn Seaton, Carl Allen, Dr. Michael Cox, Tom Williams, Dr. Robert Chambers, Dave Hanson, Drori Mondlak, Delores Williams, Byron Stripling, Frank Wess, Kenny Drew Jr.,Dennis Mackrel, Bill Watrous, Rich Eames, Jennifer Leitham, and Randy Drake.

On Saturday, April 8, 2017, Carl performed Dreams in the Dusk by David Biedenbender with South Dakota State University's Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Jacob Wallace. I am a music teacher and musician in the Los Angeles area. I was born in Taipei, Taiwan. I started my music education at the age of three; it started with clapping, rolling around on the floor, and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. I was fascinated by the magic that music possesses; as Rimsky-K
orsakov unfold a tale of an enchanted land, with camel-riding merchants, bazaar, and princesses, without uttering a single word. I went on to learn a few instruments: xylophone, three different kinds of recorders, and then all this eventually led to flute.

I started studying flute at the age of 8, and it has been a delightful journey. In high school, I have participated in marching band, symphonic band, wind ensemble, and symphonic orchestra. I was also part of two prestigious local youth orchestra, the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Claremont Young Musician Orchestra.

I obtained my Bachelor of Music (Flute Performance) degree from University of California, Santa Barbara. I grew immensely as a musician during my time in Santa Barbara, I studied under Jill Felber, and I was able to expand my repetoire and gain considerable experience. I even played at the local farmers market as a street performer during the weekends. After graduation , I traveled to my home country Taiwan to study another great musician - Anders Norell, the principal flutist/flautist of the Taiwan Philharmonic. It was another great opportunity as I was able to garner teaching experiences, as well as attending master classes of great flutist/flautist such as Emmanuel Pahud.

As a music teacher, I encourage and inspire. I am foremost a music lover, then flutist and flute teacher. I aspire to spread the abundance of joy and beauty that music has bring into my life. As the great conductor and cellist Pablo Casals puts it: "Music is the divine way to tell beautiful, poetic things to the heart". Therefore, whether if you are a wobbly toddler, high school marching band enthusiast (as I once was), house wife looking for a new hobby, full time employee who always had a love for classical music, or grandmother who is looking for something other than crochet, join me on this wonderful journey.

We scheduled Ryan to come to our house at a specific time to teach our 15 YO son. He did not show up and called 2 hours after the scheduled time to say he was misinformed by Take Lessons as to the time (even though we had confirmed the time at the beginning). We planned to resume the following week and again he did not show up. He did not reply to texts, his voicemail was not set up on his phone and he made no efforts to let us know that he had cancelled with us.

What a flake and a disappointment!

We just had our first lesson and it couldn't have gone better. I have an 8 year old son with pretty severe ADD and Ryan could not have been more patient and kind with him, following him from one room to the next while teaching him. It's now three hours after the lesson and he has not put the clarinet down. He has been practicing all 6 notes that Ryan taught him. 😬

I've been playing the flute most of my life and studied with a few of the best flute professors in the country. I have been teaching privately for 7 years. My teaching style is very flexible, though I expect dedication and hard work from my students. As my student you will learn not only flute, but you will gain a general knowledge of music theory and harmony, knowledge of musical phrasing and interpretation, as well as proper movement and body alignment similar to Alexander techniques.

New York based flutist, Kelley, has performed in notable New York venues including 54 Below, Joe's Pub, and Birdland. She has also performed throughout the United States as well as in Italy and Southeast Asia. Ms. B. received her second Masters Degree in Contemporary Performance at Manhattan School of Music studying with Dr. Tara O’Connor. She received her Bachelors and first Masters from Lynn University Conservatory of Music and studied with Jeffery Khaner and Renee Siebert. Kelley has performed with notable New York based ensembles such Tactus, STARK RAVING, Shouthouse ensemble, and the New York Symphonietta. She cofounded the Lynn University New Music Ensemble, participated in Cortona Sessions for New Music, and the 2012 Vanguard Contemporary Music Festival. In addition Ms. B. has performed with the Palm Beach Symphony, Symphony of the
Americas, and the Bozeman Symphony Orchestra.

Hi there!

I am a supportive and encouraging teacher willing to teach all ages and abilities. It is my firm belief that music is for everyone.

I am currently pursuing my M.M. from Longy School of Music. I completed my undergraduate work at Rhode Island College, where I studied oboe and bassoon privately. I am currently on the private lesson roster for two public schools in the area, and teach both double-reeded instruments. I have successfully helped young students prepare for and audition into district level ensembles.

I have reed-making experience and can assist students with finicky reeds, to help ease the most frustrating part about playing oboe & bassoon.

Students will learn the fundamentals of being a great musician on the clarinet:
-Tone: Air Support, Embouchure, tongue position
-Technique: Scales, Arpeggios, Etudes, and more
-Articulation: Speed, Style, Variety, Control
-The fundamentals will be applied to orchestral excerpts and repertoire.
-Lessons will also be supplemented with music theory and listening.

About Cole
Dr. Cole D. Belt's passion for collaborative art has resulted in the participation and/or formation of several distinguished chamber ensembles throughout his career including the Aeolus Saxophone Quartet, Duo Velocipede, Mana Quartet, Impression Saxophone Ensemble, and Singularity. Through his involvement with these groups Cole has been heard in concert halls across the U.S. and Europe in masterclass settings, competitions, music festival residencies, chamber series, and guest artist recitals. Regarding his recent Carnegie Hall debut Cole has been described as "a splendid performer who brings wonderful spirit and life to my music" by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Charles Wuorinen and by Curtis Institute composer David Ludwig as "at once sensitive, nuanced, brash, and daring: all depending on the demands of the music." 

As an undergra
duate, Cole traveled with the Aeolus Saxophone Quartet to perform world premieres of Jens Marggraf's Three Dances in Germany and Poland as guest artists. He then returned to Poland, during his Masters degree at Florida State University, for five more concerts with the Impression Saxophone Ensemble at international chamber music festivals.

Praised by composer Neil Anderson-Himmelspach for their "precision of rhythms, intonation, clarity of articulation, and sensitivity to radical shifts of mood..." Duo Velocipede is a salient combination of flute and saxophone. They had their inaugural performance at the Biennial Festival of New Music in early 2013. Since then, they have continued to perform around Florida, Georgia, and recently performed a guest artist recital at Harford College in Aberdeen, Maryland.  Anderson-Himmelspach in currently writing a concerto for the Duo.

Singularity performed first for the International Ligeti Festival and Symposium in 2013 where they collaborated with Lukas Ligeti on his quartet Frozen State of Song. Since then they have performed for Michael Maccaferri, clarinetist for the three time Grammy winning sextet eighth blackbird, who praised them for their "...unfaltering rhythmic precision and razor sharp ensemble playing with a sensitive and thoughtful interpretation of the score..." in regard  to their championing of Pulitzer Prize winning composer Charles Wuorinen's Quartet. Singularity made their Carnegie Hall debut in May of 2015.

Cole is a D'Addario Performing Artist and uses Reserve Classic Reeds, exclusively.

Lessons with Cole helped me grow not only as a saxophonist, but as a musician and person as well. He was my lessons TA for a year at Florida State University. Very patient and willing to work with his students, yet he knows when you are putting in an honest effort and when you are not. In our time together at FSU he demonstrated a wide array of knowledge and ability on the saxophone and music, including many discussions about music history, different musical styles, and transfers we can make from other instruments. If you work hard, and are honest with both Cole and yourself, you will find yourself learning a great deal and making a great friend along the way. I would recommend lessons from him to anyone.

I took lessons from Cole during my siohmore year in college. Within just a few months he had identified and corrected 3 major problems in my playing that no other teacher had noticed. Many of my friends have taken lessons with Cole as well and no one has had a bad experience.
As a teacher Cole was never late and always made me comfortable asking questions. Cole can also explain abstract, difficult to grasp concepts like no other teacher I've had before.

Cole Belt was my saxophone teacher during my first year at the Florida State University, and he had a huge impact on my approach to musicianship, both as a musician and as a human being. He helped me to realize my long and short term goals as a musician and guided me to achieving my utmost potential during my time as his student. His meditative and methodical approach to teaching and instrumental music-making is comprehensive and simplistic in nature, and he was always able to provide critical advice and various perspectives when I learning to establish my own musical concepts of phrasing, etc. I experienced growth during every lesson due to his preparation and knowledge of the instrument. But, most importantly, he was clear in his direction, and patiently provided multiple approaches to the same concept when I was having trouble understanding. He challenged me to expect more out of myself, and I am very thankful for the incredible foundation he helped me to establish during my first year as a undergraduate music student. I have seen him lead masterclasses with musicians of all ages, and he would be a lovely teacher to any woodwind student, at any level of development.
