My first lesson was great! Stephen goes into great detail and is very encouraging. Being someone who has never sung before, and who doesn't like the sound of his voice, I'll admit that I left the class with more confidence than I had imagined I'd get from a first lesson.

I have been playing piano since I was a young child and have always had a passion for music. I apprenticed in China under a master piano teacher for 15 years and then immediately started performing in many different venues. 18 years ago, I started teaching piano and have enjoyed sharing my love of music with others. I am very patient with students and am very open to the type of music they would like to play. From pop music to classical, beginning to advanced, I am well versed. If there is a specific piece you want to play, I can fit it to your level. In my lessons, I try to make each experience meaningful and joyful.
I am also available giving personalized lessons online nationwide. Looking forward to meeting you and sharing the joy of music in person and online.

*** Lesson Details ***
In our lessons, beginning students wi
ll learn to read music, play their favorite pieces, how to do warm ups and learn basic skills. I use sheet music and introductory books in my classes and assign homework for their daily practice. After 3 months, each student will move to the next level and continue learning more advanced skills. More advanced students will learn how to understand and compose music, put expression into the pieces they play and improve their current skills.
I especially emphasize in basic skills, such as recognizing the notes, reading the notes, understanding the meanings of the dynamics, and expressing oneself through each individual piece. Moreover, the basic performance skills are also occupied very heavily in each lesson, such as scales, triads in single notes and octaves, in slower speed and gradually into faster speed, and of course, different levels of etudes to build a strong base for each student to achieve his/her beautiful performance.

*** Travel Equipment ***

As someone new to music in general, Lena focused our lessons on the fundamentals of reading music and Hanon exercises to attain dexterity. She is a very patient instructor who works with you to fix errors step by step and was more than willing to answer the many questions I constantly threw at her. I have learned quite a lot in the short time I have been working with her and I would recommend her to fellow beginners.

About Joel
Music, and piano playing, has been a lifelong passion for me. I've been playing piano since I was 5 years old, and I've been teaching piano for over a decade, in 3 different countries to children and adults of all ages and abilities. I have taught privately, at music schools and at prestigious conservatories, including Juilliard.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Piano from Canada, a Master's Degree from the Guildhall School in London, UK, and a Doctoral Degree from the Juilliard School. I currently teach university students at SUNY Binghamton in upstate NY.

Since I am classically trained, classical music is my specialty, but I can teach jazz and contemporary repertoire as well. You will be hard pressed to find a more experienced and highly-trained pianist!

Music and learning music should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience, an
d it's my mission to make sure this happens in my studio. I want to pass on the joy music has given me!

I am able to teach in my own studio, or travel to your home provided it is reasonable distance. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Elizabeth is a very patient teacher. I wanted to take a few lessons on Ukulele so I could get a practical proficiency before a recent trip to Hawaii with family and friends. She was very patient and understanding with my beginner level, but I could tell that she has the ability to teach those with more ability than I have as well. The way she described how I should approach the instrument from a technique perspective was very clear and efficient, and when she would demonstrate chords and exercises she always played so beautifully. I felt as though I genuinely improved at every lesson. Not to mention her flexibility in finding time scheduling our lesson, and all around friendly and positive attitude. I could not recommend Elizabeth more.

About Owen
I'm a pianist, saxophonist, composer, teacher, and the bandleader of Mente Clara. I began teaching piano as a teenager in 2004, when I assisted one of my former teachers at a summer piano institute. I've operated my own studio since 2007. I teach students of all ages and skill levels. I'm conversant in a variety of styles, but I especially love working on improvisation, composition, jazz, and the music of Brazil. My ultimate goal as a teacher is to spark a love of music in every one of my students, whether it be as a listener or player. I want this to be fun for everyone involved!

I stress strong fundamentals in young students and usually teach beginning students out of the Faber Piano Adventures method, although I supplement the method books with a variety of exercises and pieces of my own. I generally prefer that beginning students g
o through some classical repertoire before expanding their horizons, but we can often work concurrently on other styles of music. From every student's very first lesson, I challenge them to consider the bigger, often overlooked musical picture. Needless to say, all lessons are tailored to the student's desires and needs.

More broadly, I believe that music is an essential part of life and that studying it develops and stimulates our minds in ways that have positive outcomes in other facets of life. I don't expect my students to become professional musicians, or even that they continue to play music into adulthood. Music encompasses the entire range of human emotion. It has ineffable qualities that can give us solace in times of pain and inspire us in times of joy. I hope to show that to all of my students instill a lifelong respect and passion for music.

My kids love Owen!! He is so patient, understanding and calm. My son has mentioned a few times that he would have quit piano if he had a different teacher. He teaches them a variety of music, not just classical, and gives them freedom to explore. He has given them a true appreciation and love of music. They have grown so much musically because of him. We will continue lessons with him via Skype even though he's moved away because they just don't want another teacher. -Holly

Owen has been our piano instructor for six years. He has taught all three of our children from ages six, to sixteen. His ability to relate to all skill levels, from beginner and up, has been a great asset in our household. Owen pushed them without condescension or frustration. He did a great job guiding them from not being able read sheet music or play an instrument, to actual musicians." -Paul Schuster (Austin, TX)

Just finished our first violin lesson on-line and it was great! Krisztina's very nice and very patient! Already in one lesson I learned so much! Krisztina was able to explain technical concepts in a clear and simple way. She provided excellent examples and demonstrations on bow placement and finger/wrist relaxation (just to name a few things). It's really awesome to have a teacher with so much experience and musical ability. Also, she is kind and encouraging. I look forward to many more lessons!

About Abe
I've always had a love for music. I've been teaching music in the classroom and privately for 10 years. I have a Master's Degree in Music Education and am a Level 2 James Hill Ukulele Initiative certified teacher.

I'm a father 4, and have been married for 12 years.

I teach guitar, piano, bass, and singing, but my real passion is the ukulele. I believe it's the best instrument for beginners and can really stand well on it's own, unlike the traditional thought of ukulele being a toy.

When I teach, I put the student first and always make the students goals my own. I push for more, but always gently encourage to build off of successes to achieve mastery.

Learning an instrument can be a difficult task, and it takes time and dedication. It's also tremendously rewarding, and the most important thing that I want my students to gai
n is a fun experience improving and creating music.
