Bgcheck Background Checked

Building a positive learning environment is at the very core of my teaching philosophy. The lesson and the practice room are the times to make mistakes and learn how to reach your fullest potential! I offer well-rounded lessons, focusing on basic music theory, technique, expressive playing, and developing an understanding of why we make mistakes while practicing. My lessons will can cover everything from the very basics to orchestral excerpts/audition preparation. Let’s get started! I can’t wait to learn with you!

About Emily

I am a professional flutist living in the Hudson Valley. I received my Bachelor’s degree in flute performance from SUNY Fredonia in 2016, and my Master’s degree in flute performance from SUNY Purchase in 2019. Emily is a patient, thoughtful, considerate, and empathetic teacher.

I enjoyed our time together, practicing and learning a difficult and abstract instrument/subject was fun and engaging.

Highly recommend Emily to anyone willing to learn the flute! Thanks for everything Emily!

Emily is quite possibly the best teacher I've had. She is generous with her time while teaching. Emily is also very patient when working with me on difficult passages of music. She is creative at problem solving issues with my playing and has been very helpful in getting my playing to the next level. Anyone who wants to learn the flute, whether it's to improve their classical playing, or because they were inspired to learn because of the recent popularity of Lizzo, they should contact Emily for all flute needs!

About Don

Don was wonderful with our son Brett, who enjoyed his first lesson immensely. We are definitely in this for the long haul with Don! He was very patient and very attentive to Brett.

Had a great first lesson with Don. I believe I will progress nicely under his tutelage. Already have a lot to work on.
November 7, 2015
Years ago I took Guitar Lessons at a local music store ( a very prominent one) as a raw beginner and quickly became frustrated with my lack of progress. Although my teacher was a great player and "very hot" to look at I soon began to feel like I was merely his "practice dummy."... I'd play the chords he showed me, endlessly,... while he seemed to be just practicing his solo playing. ... I then tried On-Line Lessons from various sites which were actually even less helpful and soon just lost interest completely.
A friend of mine said she had taken lessons from a Don DeBold for about 5 years before going off to college and highly recommended him.
I've now been taking lessons from Don for almost 2 years and having a blast ! I've learned how to play along with most of my favorite songs (mainly Blues and Rock) and now I'm learning to play Solo Guitar that needs no accompaniment !
Unlike my first teacher, during many lessons Don barely plays or even has his Strat on his lap because he's busy concentrating on what I'm doing !
He's a stickler yet lots of fun at the same time> I super recommend him as a Guitar and Music Teacher !!! Aneiah J.

About Tia Polina

Hello guys! My name is Tia P. I'm from New York. I'm a professional language teacher, published writer and translator, an award-winning musician, life coach, touring motivational speaker and a certified yoga and meditation instructor. I love what I do! :) I have B.A. and certificates. I teach

I love my yoga and meditation lessons with Tia. I take lessons every other day and meditate every morning. It gives me so much positive energy and motivation!
Tia is a great teacher!
September 25, 2019
I met Tia during one of her seminars. I started taking life coaching classes with her immediately. I had many issues: my health was falling apart, I was getting depressed, my relationships with people didn't work well, and I really hated my job. So, slowly we started working on all these areas. I won't get into details, but she is not just a motivational teacher, she is searching for answers. She is taking every client so closely to her heart. I'm glad I decided to work on myself. It is a process, but I get so much more focused. I know what I want. And I am confident I can achieve what I want. This is so new to me. I learn to accept myself, love my past and be open to my future. I don't blame myself for my mistakes. I know - now I know better. She is a kind person. She doesn't judge you. No matter what you've done. She is teaching you to see how your past affects your future. She connects the dots. And works hard with you to open your future. Tia is also a yoga and meditation coach and two months ago I started taking her yoga sessions as well. She teaches you how to breath correctly, how to eat right, now to meditate and do yoga postures. I'm on the right track. And I recommend this teacher. Certainly.
September 25, 2019
I take singing, songwriting and piano lessons with Tia for a few years already! I started - i didn't know much about music, but i had big dreams! Now I have my band, I write, record. I even had a small tour in NY and NJ! I love singing, performing - this is my best therapy and I love helping people with my music. My pitch and rhythm are good now and I had problems before. My songwriting skills improve too. Tia believes that everyone is talented. And she helps you rediscover yourself and unlock your full potential.

Mr Lewis is fantastic. He truly loves teaching kids to love music. My grandson first had him as a 5th grade music teacher and now as a private instructor for his clarinet. He takes each student at their own pace, encouraging them along the way to stretch and challenge.

"Great Experience

You will learn so much with Erik! He has a solid grasp on a lot of music theory and knows how to break that down and explain it. The sessions are fun! I always look forward to the lesson, and they seem so short because the time is flying by. I definitely recommend Erik as a teacher."

"David is fantastic. He is very smart and his formal education in music shines through in his teachings. He teaches the proper foundational techniques which may be harder to adopt initially but without it, advancement to high level playing is much more difficult and time consuming. David's direct teaching style creates very efficient sessions and maximum progression. David has the right balance of formal music education to ensure proper technique, and his personal band side project to ensure that you are enjoying the process since that's what's most important."

"I've taken lessons before and have always become disappointed because there was never any structure to the lessons and theory was treated as secondary. I wanted to really delve into theory because that is the knowledge needed to have no limits. Finally, I found Jimmy. He is a true teacher. Jimmy makes sure he teaches you the theory behind what you are doing. I have been playing for over ten years and was not progressing. After just a few lessons with him, I am starting to truly see the fretboard. I am finally excited again!"

Pianist Spotlight: How Ben Folds Brought the Piano Back to Pop

Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Stevie Wonder—so many names top the list of influential piano players in music history. But for a while there, as dance, metal, and grunge took center stage, piano was relegated to the sidelines. One artist who changed that, however, was Ben Folds. When he hit the scene with his band Ben Folds Five in the mid-90s, a new musical sound emerged—pop heavily infused with piano. Who is Ben Folds? Ben Folds grew up in in North Carolina listening to piano grea …
