From the beginning I have felt that Alex is very invested in my success and like every great teacher, he challenges me. Alex's teaching style is a combination of teaching, observing and correcting technique, addressing mindset (really important), and wanting the student to feel the joy of discovering how to play real songs with every lesson. He is patient and encouraging, with just the right word at the right time. Combined with his vast knowledge of music, lessons and homework are packed with useful info that is broken down in a way that’s easy to understand. He also demonstrates how everything is applied through multiple musical styles,, so you can get a sense of the potential of your own playing in the future while broadening your musical horizons, which is a bonus.. You will get out of it only what you put into it, so regular practice is key otherwise it's easy to get behind. But Alex will adjust if something is not working, which is very motivating. Great teacher. Recommend 100%.

With a Berklee degree in Professional Music with an emphasis on Performance as well as over five years of performing and teaching full time, I offer a unique combination of talent, experience and a love for teaching. You are getting a teacher who defies the standard, "those who can't do, teach" because you are gaining an instructor who regularly performs in addition to teaching. At the same time, you are not getting a teacher who only plays and has no concrete lesson plans or goals for you because I have extensive teaching experience as well. For me, one of the greatest joys of teaching is watching students take all the hard work they've done and perform for their school or get accepted to a conservatory.

About Phil

I have taught students as young as four years old to adults and everything from pure beginner to advanced students who want to learn more about jazz, music theory or technique. I teach a wide range of styles including current pop/top 40, classic hits, jazz, funk and classical.

I beleive the flute is a unique and beautiful instrument. When I play flute I imagine a series of colors becuase each tone is bright just like the colors of the rainbow. This is what I imagine when I play and I hope my students have similar ways of seeing there instrument like this. I believe the flute is supposed to be a happy and calming instrument.

I came in with no background in music, and she was very capable in assessing my level and getting me started on exercises and practices to improve my vocal control, posture, and more. She is very friendly and patient, and is always excited to practice and improve. I would definitely recommend Maureen for beginners and beyond who are looking to improve their singing."

Should You Sing With a Cold? (+5 Tips to Get Healthy)

As a singer, what should you do if you find yourself under the weather? How bad is singing with a cold? Check out these tips from voice teacher Katie B... It's no fun being sick. But the reality is that we all get sick now and then. We aren’t machines, after all! Many singers are unclear, though, on what to do when they get sick. …
