I have been coaching woodwind players and freelancing for the last 10 years in Los Angeles, New York, and back home in New Hampshire. Growing up, I heard my sister practicing the clarinet couldn't wait to get started. Once I started in 4th grade, I played in every class meeting and even played a duet with my principal in 5th grade during morning announcements. I play creative music of all genres and will help each student find music that they enjoy playing.

Music lessons are an opportunity to facilitate skill acquisition, self-expression, and strategic planning to meet new goals. Ideally the teacher and student agree to treat each musical idea with a unique attention, where the student learns by way of the teachers experience and insightful guidance, and the teacher also learns through live interaction with the student. I believe this type of learning to be possible for all levels of students and even more natural outside of an academic institution than inside of one.

Chris is a wonderful teacher! I had a couple of lessons with him to prepare for my Grad School auditions. and he provided me with the feedback I needed in a supportive style. Even though I was only able to have a couple of lessons they were quite meaningful and I would definitely recommend him. He has great energy and is quite knowledgeable.

My son has been studying with Mr Thomas for 5 years! He is a very talented musician/teacher and I’ve seen such progress in my sons playing over the years. He has helped him write his own pieces and prepped him for his orchestra performances. “Mr. Thomas is really fun to play music with and you learn a lot. He even helped me with transcribing a video game soundtrack that I loved into my recital piece”! We highly recommend Mr. Thomas!
Eunice
My son took clarinet lessons in-person and then transitioned to online when COVID happened. He tried piano and violin before but clarinet is the first instrument that Micah was super excited about. He learned and improved so much with the one on one instruction with Thomas. He says clarinet is his passion now and looks forward to every lesson. I recommend Thomas to teach your child. He is patient, kind and can find ways to motivate kids to play at their best.

As a group Clarinet and Flute teacher with Youth Orchestra of St. Luke's, Thomas Giles created an engaging and inspiring music learning curriculum for his students. At each recital all of his students were able to introduce themselves, the piece they have learned, and a bit of history or commentary to go along. Throughout online learning Dr. Giles continued a supportive and creative environment, even through zoom, where each of his students composed and performed their own piece. If you are looking for your student to come away from lessons with a high level of ability and confidence on their instrument look no further than Dr. Giles, they will have the added bonus of learning important skills such as public speaking and presenting. They may even take away some composition and arranging skills!

Hi, I'm Jenna!

I'm a professional flutist, flute teacher, and music educator teaching Online and in Lafayette, California.

I specialize in improving students' playing by teaching practice efficiency, confidence and focus. I use both traditional and non-traditional techniques to help flutists understand rhythm, tone, intonation, technique (finger skills), and musical expression. ‚Äč

After working with me, students play more accurately, more expressively, and have a deeper understanding and appreciation of their musical repertoire. They are more successful in all their musical endeavors, from chair placements and band or orchestra solos to solo recital performances and auditions.

During lessons, I often compare concepts to other activities my students know and love - their favorite sport, video games, or books. I love sharing my “magic tricks” - shortcut exercises to make tricky passages instantly easier, and you’ll definitely catch me encouraging my students to listen, listen, ...

My daughter took naturally to the flute and my biggest concern has always been whether or not she was being challenged enough. When we first started lessons with Jenna, I asked my daughter how her lessons were going and she said "Jenna's showing me new stuff." It was the first time I started to hear her struggle to make some notes come out. It's been a few years now and I can still hear my daughter having to focus while she practices. I can see her continuing to get better and build skills.

As a parent, I appreciate how Jenna tries to bring diversity and fresh musical influences to her lessons. I like that Jenna incorporates music history and looks for new ways for the kids to work and learn together.

"Diana really helped me with tone and with correcting my finger tension. Starting flute again after 30 years, I remembered the theory but Diana showed me how to play more smoothly, connect the notes with better phrasing and understand the musicality of the whole piece.

She gives useful exercises for embouchure to get a much better sound and helps one enjoy working with the details that hold one back.

Diana showed me what to appreciate in recordings of masters like Galway and Pahud, so I enjoy the exercises that will improve in my playing.

I have also seen her coach groups of intermediate players to blend together for ensemble pieces.

Definitely I would recommend Diana as being a patient and pleasant teacher to work with."

"Michelle has an extraordinary talent. My fiancé and I contacted her to play our wedding ceremony and reception music after I heard Michelle play a solo piece at a winter concert I attended this December. UNBELIEVABLE! We knew we HAD to have her play our music, as we were looking for a more whimsical, classical vibe for the music, rather than the ordinary “press play and hear covers of different songs” vibe.
The way she connects with the music is like something I’ve never seen before. I would highly recommend Michelle for any event that you are looking to host. She also mentioned she conducts lessons-although I am not a musician myself, I believe she would be an excellent teacher!"
