I have been teaching cello lessons students of all ages and abilities for over 10 years. I consider myself to be a traditional teacher incorporating several Suzuki Method principals, particularly emphasizing good technique, learning the value of effort, and using music as a tool to nurture soft skills that benefit non-musical aspects of school and/or life.

Through cello lessons I strive to help students reach the following goals:
1. Achieve the ability to make beautiful music and demonstrate a mastery of technique at every level.
2. Experience joy through playing music and a sense of success and accomplishment through hard work.
3. Develop valuable skills, traits, and habits that help the student excel in other areas beyond music lessons.

You can learn more about my teaching philosophy and studio at emilyrwolfram.com.

About Emily

A Northern California native, Emily received a Bachelor of Music in music management and cello performance from California State University, Sacramento where she studied cello with Andrew Luchansky. During her time in Sacramento, Emily freelanced, taught cello lessons, and worked with several arts

This is one of my favorite areas of study - the total integration of connected character work and soaring, sustainable vocal performance. We'll dig into the music itself, the important questions to answer for characterization, and how the two elements interplay through your performance.

I teach sustainable singing while retaining and highlighting what is special about your voice. We'll strengthen the tone, expand the range and work toward creating a singing

I had singing classes before for years, but before meeting Ryland I had a 2 year hiatus for many reasons. I needed someone that could help me evolve my rusty technique to gain vocal power while going thru FTM hormone therapy. In the first few weeks I already noticed a big difference in my voice, being able to hit such power that I didn’t had before. He would also notice my strenghts and weaknesses, and work on them with easy to understand concepts and techniques. Each week it gets more challenging and with him I’m able to get better each time, so it does end up not being challenging at all! He also understands that my voice is going thru changes, so everything is done in a healthy way, pushing forward my knowledge and practice while making it a safe transition! He’s kind enough to give me lessons that I work at home in-between classes as well. And to top it all, we both have the same sense of humor, so after a tough day at work, being able to do what I love while being a funny and relaxing experience it’s gold! Thank you Ryland! Can’t wait for my next class! :)

Ryland is the real deal. He’s an amazing teacher and has helped me resolve an issue that I’ve had my entire life with my voice. I always felt I was straining my voice and always had to make a huge effort trying to be heard and yet my voice would not project and often people would have a hard time hearing what I was saying. I always felt very frustrated because our voice is such an intimate expression of ourselves and I felt that I was making this huge effort and my voice did not feel like a natural expression of myself. Instead I felt tense and uncomfortable. When I picked up acting, the issues with my voice, the need to be heard and to have a confident vocal range became more urgent. I didn’t really believe it would be possible because I had tried a speech therapist in the past but Ryland has taught me how to make lasting changes to my voice that have made a huge difference in my life. Ryland is incredibly gifted. He has an amazing ear and can hear things about my voice that I don’t even know how to put into words. We worked over a period of several months and he was a truly wonderful teacher, not only in terms of the work we did during the lessons but also his kindness, compassion and nurturing were equally important in helping me make the changes. I can’t recommend him highly enough.
Mark
Ryland is an exceptional communicator, helping me learn to get out of my own way and trust my voice that's already here. Together we developed a daily practice, specifically designed to strengthen my weaknesses and carve out the grooves I need in order to do my best work. Join forces with Ryland and you will build confidence, you will build YOUR voice, and you will move forward with excitement and anticipation!

In my lessons, I have been told that I am patient and efficient. While engaging students, I have method books in mind that will fit trombone students of all levels. I am committed to passing on what I know on my instrument and the music theory used in playing trombone.
I give productive, honest feedback to my students because the only way for me to improve is to know where my shortcomings are and focus on my weak points. If a note or style is incorrect, I will let the student know. I would never belittle or ridicule anyone for any mistake.
When I first meet the student, I will be happy to assist in anything they're working on. If the student doesn't have any particular pieces, I will figure out what repertoire is appropriate. I will also get students ready for the college level of performance, especially those who plan on majoring in music performance, education, or any other field of music.

About Brendan

I am a college student pursuing my degree in Music - Instrumental Performance. I specialize in trombone, but am able to teach any low brass instruments. I have been playing trombone for 9 years studying under numerous private instructors. I have performed with many honor bands/orchestras, includi

My first lesson with Brendan was at Fullerton College. He lent me his spare trombone as I don't have one of my own. We went over the basics of how to buzz into the mouthpiece and he was showing me the different positions on the slide. We had a great lesson, recommended for anyone who wants to learn trombone or get better at it.

What Piano Pedals Do + How to Use Them to Sound Like a Pro

Piano pedals are levers which alter the sound of the piano in a variety of different ways. The three types of pedals most pianos have are, from right to left: a sustain pedal, a sostenuto pedal, and a soft pedal. Note: Some digital keyboards may only have one - the sustain pedal - which you can plug into the keyboard. As you get more comfortable at the piano, you may start to wonder about these three pedals at the bottom. What do the pedals on a piano do? You'll find the answers in t …
