I have been driven to sing since the womb. I first discovered my talents at the age of 13 and have been a ROCKET ever since ! From singing solos in church choirs to auditioning for a performing arts school. I’ve realized my passion for my gift was only BEGINNING. I have not only had the opportunity to be apart of a wonderful concert, chamber choir for 3+ years , I’ve experienced music theory , vocal pedagogy, Piano 1,2 & competed in district and state solos , with a rate of 2 and 1! To being a lead 1st soprano. Overall I’ve taught others how to read , write , find their vocal range , I’ve also had the privilege to critique ,direct some of the various music selections such as jazz, opera, folk, classical etc.., for fellow individuals , classmates , peers. When it comes to music the drive I bring to the table is knowledgeable, & fun with a intent to grow and follow your passion!

My teaching career began while I was a Conservatory graduate student. Teaching and performing are complementary aspects of being a musician. Instructing others provides a deeper, more thorough understanding of my own approach to playing. Several decades of performing in professional orchestras and chamber music ensembles grants a life time of practical experience to share with my students.

While the serious pursuit of a professional level of accomplishment on two diverse instruments such as the violin and the flute is unusual, the idiomatic characteristics of each one have given me unique insights into other. Over the years I have discovered concepts that have enhanced my performing and teaching of both. These ideas have allowed me to present an integrated approach and perspective for both instruments that not many other teachers would have.

My pedagogical philosophy provides the aspiring student with a greater understanding of the other instruments with whom they will ...

About Jami

Taking a "road less traveled" as both a violinist and a flutist, Jami has spent a lifetime pursuing achievements on two diverse orchestral instruments. She is an active free lance musician on both instruments in Pittsburgh, PA and the metropolitan Kansas City area. She also performed frequently in

I was in my mid 50s at the time I began violin lesson with Jami. As an adult beginner, I was apprehensive about learning the violin. I had no familiarity with the violin or string instruments and I also had concerns regarding scheduling lessons due to an often erratic work schedule and a busy family life. Several violin teachers I had contacted prior to Jami were unwilling to teach an adult beginner.

Jami was an amazing teacher! She was personable, encouraging and alleviated all my fears and concerns. She understood my busy schedule and was very accommodating. The lessons were more relaxed than I had initially anticipated. It did not take long before I began feeling comfortable handling the violin and bow. Through Jami, I also learned a great deal about the history and construction of the violin, music for the violin and music theory.

Jami taught a mix of Suzuki, scales and multiple technique and method books; all complementing each other on my path to progressing as a violinist. As an adult, it was nice to gradually incorporate more tunes a mature adult would appreciate playing while continuing to build on the basics. After the first few months, I particularly enjoyed learning how to play violin duets with Jami or having Jami accompany me on the piano. I always left my lessons with a feeling of accomplishment.

I only ceased lessons due to Jami relocating, but I am looking forward to online lessons once I am more technologically capable of doing so. You will not be disappointed if choosing Jami as a teacher!

I have worked with Jami Bale for over ten years. She has deep knowledge of both violin and flute, and has profound skills in chamber music. Ms. Bale is demanding yet very compassionate teacher, her students excel at a fast pace and make wonderful professional and amateur musicians.
Ms. Bale was an irreplaceable member of the Chamber Music Seminar faculty and Pittsburgh Youth Concert Orchestra.
Whether the student needs to only keep up with the school curriculum or place a top chair in a youth orchestra, Ms. Bale will be there for you every inch of the way.

My daughter had a great experience taking lessons with Jami for 5 years. Jami was very patient with her, which was helpful because my daughter started taking lessons at age 5 and had trouble focusing at the beginning. We appreciated that she was very flexible with her teaching. She took the time to adjust terminology, techniques and methods according to what worked best for my daughter. She always took time to answer my daughter's questions and explain things in a way that she could understand. My daughter appreciated that she took the time to get to know her and make her comfortable by asking about her school and other personal interests, and of course, allowing her to pick out her favorite sticker after she completed a good lesson!

"Fay is such an amazing teacher! I got into Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School thanks to her. Best Teacher I've had, she helps train your voice and goes through the vocal anatomy so you understand techniques such as proper breathing, posture, coordination, grounding, acting, diction...etc. I've been her student for about a year three years now and I have to say that my voice has improved so much as a performer all thanks to her! If you get the chance, at least take a class, you will not regret it!"
