About Summer

I believe that the most important aspect of teaching music is creating a positive and individualized learning environment while simultaneously teaching the necessary technique and knowledge to play your instrument both successfully and confidently.

Above all, our lessons will focus on reaching your musical potential. Curriculum for our lessons will draw from variety of methods and aspects of music education. These include music theory, ear training, sight-reading, body mapping, technique, improvisation skills, arranging, and composition. I place a great emphasis on learning repertoire from a variety of genres of music.

Students will have the opportunity to share what they learn at spring and winter recitals and to participate in group lessons on a regular basis.

I have 9 years of experience teaching piano, guitar, music th

eory, and ear training to students of all ages, levels, and musical backgrounds, including students with special needs.

I am currently completing my Masters degree at University of California, Irvine. Prior to my graduate studies, I was based in New York City, where I ran a private music studio, performed throughout the city with my jazz quintet, and worked as an accompanist and musical director. I graduated with honors from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA with degrees in Performance and Audio Engineering.

Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions about lessons or scheduling!

About Viola Rose

Hi there. my name is Viola. I am 49 years old. I have been playing Handpan (hangdrum) for 6 years. I have played hand drums and percussion instruments for 26 years. and am now offering handpan, hangdrum Ravdrum and hand drum lessons for beginning and intermediate players. for online lessons you would need to have your own handpan or drum . but for in-person lessons in Southeast portland Oregon, you would NOT need to have your own handpan or hand drums as you can use mine. I am joyful and super inspired by the Handpan and playing drums.
I also offer vocal training for those wanting to "find their voice" and to learn to sing from their heart center and embody their voice. this is a very non-traditional style of vocal coaching, its more intuitive and heart based. I have been singing my whole life in solo projects and in Bands. you ca

n find my CD "veils of Twilight" online.
I only offer one hour lessons in person. for online lessons I am willing to do half hour lessons as well,

She is a wonderful instructor. She has a very calm and soothing presence even miles away. I am a beginner and I find her to be very patient. She clearly is talented both in terms of playing the instrument as well as in the art of instruction. I highly recommend her!

About Carly

Hello, my name is Carly. I'm currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in music education at the University of Louisville. Throughout the past couple of semesters I've been learning many different methods for teaching, privately and publicly. I have 6 students of my own, and would love to expand my studio and take in more cellists. I've been playing cello about 10 years and love to share my passion with others. The most effective way of learning about anything is by actually doing it!

Dr. John Ross is an excellent teacher! He helped me take the music I was preparing to record to a whole new level. He has so much knowledge and can present that knowledge in a way that is approachable for students of any level. I am so thankful I got to study with him!!!

John is an outstanding player and pedagogue. Over a number of years, I've observed John work with students of incredibly diverse backgrounds, ages, and skill levels. With each and every student, John connects with the individual, finding what will help that person rise to their fullest potential as a flute player. Technical progress is a given when studying with John. Additionally, students consistently enter his lessons eager to learn and leave with a renewed drive to grow. I cannot recommend John highly enough.

About Steven

My name is Steven Crammer and I am professional drummer and teacher based in New York City. I have a B.M (jazz performance) from William Paterson University, a certificate from Drummer's Collective, and am working towards my M.M. (jazz performance) from Manhattan School of Music. I have performed around the country in a wide variety of musical settings (jazz, rock, theater, marching band, etc.) and taught privately for 9 years, as well as given clinics/masterclasses.

Although my formal education is focused on jazz, I perform and teach many styles of music. I am as comfortable playing/teaching rock and metal as I am with jazz and world music. Beginners to advanced players are all welcome,

The lessons are flexible based on each student's specific needs and interests. I want the student to have a relationship with music and the instru

ment. We will work on building a strong foundation (technique, groove, time) as well as being creative and working towards the student's personal musical goals.

"Glenn is a great teacher, although we've only had 3 lessons so far it's clear that he is very knowledgeable in both the instrument and the teaching techni
que. It's not enough to know the instrument well, you also have to be able to connect with the student and teach that knowledge. Glenn has both qualities, and I enthusiastically recommend him to anyone considering him as a teacher!"

"Great feedback from the concert! Now Brandi's been working with me on basic classical - reading two or three lines at a time and going up and down the nec
k of the guitar with just the sheet music! No Tab Charts!! For me this has always been extremely hard, and probably the hardest musical skill for me overall is reading multiple lines simultaneously. Not great yet but - in quite a short time - have come Much farther than I was and am finally figuring out how to do it. Brandi has been super encouraging and patient and explains every step along the way when I get stuck - even multiple times if needed :)! Playing my normal rock or jazzy stuff with a lot more ease and "know-how" than before. She makes being pushed to your limits not only productive but also enjoyable."

"Sally has taught piano for over 15 years with her husband Tim. Tim teaches voice and has professional singing experience with San Diego Opera. There teach
ing style has provided a structured environment with very patient, encouraging tone so the most timid of students will want to learn. Students with learning challenges have done well with their program. Periodic recitals and music competitions are scheduled during the year to showcase each students learning accomplishments. Both Tim and Sally are loving people and would welcome anyone who desires to learn piano, guitar, violin, and voice from their experienced teachers."
