I've been a guitar player for a while and have wanted to learn how to sing along with the guitar. Mark has done an excellent job determining where I currently am as a singer and how I can get to where I want to be as a singer. He has started with the basics and explaining to me how you can improve as a singer by making routine out of several exercises. He has done a great job not just explaining what the exercises are, but why they are beneficial to me as a vocalist. After gathering a better sense of my voice, I have started bringing my guitar to lessons and he has helped me immensely to blend my voice with my instrument. Since doing these lessons, I've had the confidence in my voice to start performing at open-mic nights in the Twin Cities and I thank Mark for that! He is wonderful!

I found Mark through TakeLessons a little over a year ago when my dad and I were looking to start learning guitar. I could not have been more pleased with how accommodating Mark was with our schedules and different skill levels. Whether its reviewing what we learned the week prior or taking on something new we are being challenged every lesson. My dad and I have come a long way since we started last year and Mark is to thank for our success. I highly recommend Mark if you are just starting out or have a few years under your belt. He is crazy knowledgeable!

Singing lessons are very special, because the student's voice is their instrument! We learn proper posture, good breathing technique, free head voice singing for proper pitch placement and good tone quality and resonance. Students can pick their style of music and even the songs they'd like to sing. Typically students like to sing show tunes, folk songs, and musicals. Italian Arias are good to learn pure vowel sounds, free head voice, diction, and study excellent classics. Students have fun as they learn to be the best singer they can be! :)

In voice lessons, I emphasize healthy, natural singing technique, clear diction, and strong communication (acting) skills. I am fluent in German and can coach diction in French, Italian, and Latin. I am comfortable with classical/opera, musical theater, jazz, and pop styles (but classical will be our foundation). Whether you think you can't carry a tune in a bucket, want to get into an auditioned choir, or aspire to a stage career, I will give you what you need to reach your goals!

About Siri
I am passionate about providing the most well-rounded music training to singers and pianists of all ages. This includes learning healthy technique, sight-reading, theory and analysis, and appropriate repertoire. Singers also learn acting techniques. Flutists can get a solid start on their instrument with good tone and note-reading skills. I have MM degrees in Voice and Piano Performance and Instrumental Conducting and am nationally certified in piano teaching through MTNA. I am an active member of both MTNA and NATS.

I started learning German through what is now the Concordia Language Villages. I spent my senior year of high school as an exchange student in the southern Black Forest of Germany and took several high-level German classes in college. My pronunciation of Hoch Deutsch is perfect. (And I know a wee bit of the local dialect t

Voice lessons are an opportunity to hone the most unique instrument in the world, our voice. Not only will we study proper vocal techniques with classical training to strengthen our voices, learn or grow our reading abilities, develop ear training, and study diverse genres, we will develop confidence through self discovery and our voices.

About Nicole
Nicole C. is available for in-home, in-studio, and online lessons. Nicole has been singing for over 25 years and teaching music since 2012. Her latest project, Vox Medusa, has performed the last 4 years at the MN Fringe Festival, winning them Audience Choice. Nicole teaches all experience levels from beginner to intermediate and advanced.

Nicole developed her own method of teaching to positively enhance the student's strength, confidence, ear-training, memorization and techniques. Her positive and approachable personality sets the tone for a good singing experience.

Beginning lessons are used to discuss goals of the student and to establish the students skills level, beginning with vocalizes. Reading music isn't mandatory. She continues on to explore some classical technique rooted as a foundation for good breath support and qualit
y of tone. After, student's continue to explore other styles including jazz, musical theater, world, improvisation, rock, and contemporary, depending on the student's goals.

Nicole attended McNally Smith College of Music, St. Paul, MN. She also continues to perform nationally and Internationally with various groups locally, while teaching at local performing arts schools in the Twin Cities.

Nicole is extremely gifted in music all aspects of music, reading, writing, recording and teaching.
She has been involved in music all her life. She started at St. Edwards Catholic church singing in the choir at the age of 9. After that she joined Angelica Youth Choir, at this time started piano and voice lessons. She received several awards in voice. She added guitar to her lessons as well. In her senior year at Thomas Jefferson High school she was selected after her audition to the Show Choir “Connection”. Her participation leads “Connection” to win in their competitions. She stared in Thomas Jefferson’s Musical “Anything Goes”. After High School Nicole went to a music school “Music Tech” in Minneapolis. She developed many long lasting relations which continue to this day. Her performances moved to different types of Bands original and cover bands. She has recorded CD’s with their Bands Mad Love and Wookie foot. She composed two cover songs for Mad Love. Nicole went back to Angelica participating in the Alumni Choir.
Music is a part of Nicole it is her expression, compassion it encompasses her spiritual understanding, creates her courage and develops her knowledge. It is her language it is her compass as it guilds her through her life. She embraces all of it and shares all that it is to her. It is an honor to her to teach what she has learned and been given. She does not see Music as a single expression by as one that needs to be of many.

In my almost twenty-five years of teaching experience, I have taught a wide range of students in age and levels: from high school to college, professional, adult and avocational. Because of this, I have the ability to teach each student based on their own individual needs. As a result, I have enjoyed a wonderful rapport with all my students, since I make them comfortable and help them feel a difference in their singing from the very first lesson. This way, there is an atmosphere of trust and ease so that students are free enough to explore and ask questions. Something that is an important part of my teaching is simplifying and clarifying the basics. Being able to grasp a concept is a confidence builder for students. Then, they can thrive and approach their practice sessions with joy. Therefore, they continue to make progress and are proud of the work they do. Most importantly, I like to create a positive and productive environment for the learning process, so that my students can ...

I work with students to find vocal freedom and a balanced production. In my personal experience, the most effective teaching guides have been adaptable to their student’s learning needs. Lessons are tailored to the individual’s vocal development and focus on ear-training, theory, basic piano skills, breath, alignment, diction, expression, and more.
