Ms. S. has a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from Eastern Michigan University and is certified Level III in the Somatic Voicework™ The LoVetri Method. She has also trained in Estill Voice through the University of Michigan, with additional training in the Feldenkrais Method of movement. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). She will tailor your vocal development to your individual performance goals.

Singing is a complex coordination of breathing, phonation, resonation and articulation, overlaid with musical and performance layers. This process needs to be guided by an instructor who is knowledgeable in the vocal processes and anatomy, as well vocal styles and performance. Vocal development progresses as the body strengthens and growing musical skills demand more from the vocal instrument. We'll work together to create a voice which works freely to express the musical and emotional demands of the literature, allowing the joy of ...

This was my daughter's first class, and she loved it.
My daughter was trained in opera, and was looking for a teacher who will help her do the transition to musical theater. Well, she has found such teacher.
Ms. Barbara not only has the educational background to help her, but also has a wealth of knowledge thru her personal experience as a musical theatre performer.
Personally, I do not think that we could have found her without the help of take lessons.com because we live in another city. Thank you,

Having sung practically my whole life, I love the voice and what it can do. I strive to discover the beauty of the instrument. The voice is an instrument too. The body is the soundboard. Because it is a delicate instrument, it must receive the greatest of care. I also strive to make learning the voice both practical and personal! I believe that anyone can sing! Because I believe vocal development is so important, I will only teach beginning students from age 9 years and up. Voice lessons are taught in person only! Note, in-person lessons must be with students who are vaccinated for Covid-19! Thank you.

About Cheryl

I have worked for over 30 years as a professional accompanist and musician in the greater metropolitan Detroit area. I have earned several degrees, which include a Bachelor of Music Performance in Organ and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Music both from Wayne State University. My studies

Voice was my major at University. I have sung all different styles of music from pop to opera although I focus more on the Broadway and Classical for teaching as these are the foundation for voice. If you have a good foundation, you can sing any style!

I teach all levels of voice. I use a great many different books suitable for each age and level of voice such as the 24 Italian arias and art songs, the first book of solos, folk songs for solo singers, to name a few.

Heather is a great teacher; she is able to gauge ability and keeps the lessons varied and interesting, always pushing you just at the edge, beyond what you thought you were capable of. Friendly, amiable, and laidback in style, she makes learning in a comfortable atmosphere fun. You can tell she has a real passion for music and teaching, and results after just a few lessons proves she knows what she is doing.

I am a beginning singer, my only prior experience was singing with the congregation in church, not the choir.
Quinn
She's really nice, and makes warm-ups before starting the lesson for your voice range. The variety of songs you can sing is pretty big, you want to sing in Italian? There's plenty! Want to sing in Latin? I'm pretty sure there's a few! There are songs from various musicals, too. All in all, she's a pretty great teacher.

After a singing lesson with Cathy I feel more confident in my singing and self-expression as well as taller and more centered. Her lessons are infused with a deep understanding of the anatomy and mechanics of singing as well as with a gift for uncovering your personal expression through song. Meanwhile her classes are relaxed and unpretentious. Cathy creates a warm and caring atmosphere that allows the student to feel confident where ever they are at with their singing.

Calling all Musical Theatre singers! After 27 yrs of teaching hundreds of students, many of whom have gone on to successful music careers, I am thrilled to join the “Take Lessons” Community🤗🎶🤗🎶
While we certainly have a lot of fun, we combine it with traditional technique as well as “the art form” or telling the story of the song.
We have students preparing for college auditions, local and regional auditions, local and regional performances and competitions and so much more.
I am so excited to share this with new students and families.
I look forward to meeting all of you🤗🎶

"I have visited many singing teachers over the years but the way in which Fawn helps you develop your vocal range with proper vocal placement, and having fun in the process, makes her stand out as the best vocal coach there is. It's no wonder she made the top 5% of Best music coaches in the United States. I would highly recommend her. She will find some notes in your range that you never knew existed and her exercises work.

What is Subharmonic Singing? A Closer Look for Vocalists

As it applies to singing and the human voice, a subharmonic is one or several harmonics created below the fundamental harmonic where the fundamental is perceived to be lower than the original tone. Subharmonics occur when a singer's ventricular folds vibrate along with their vocal folds at the same time. It's important to note here that the label "subharmonic" does not refer to a register or specific vocal technique. Just because you have a voice in a low register doesn't mean you are necessa …

Can Yoga Help You Sing Better?

For months now, the Billboard chart has looked pretty similar each week, with Adele perched at the #1 spot with her hit album 21. Adele has maintained that spot for 18 weeks now,  needing only 3 more weeks to pass previous records made by the Bodyguard soundtrack and Elvis Presley's Blue Hawaii. With an accomplishment like this, we don't see her leaving the spotlight for some time. As a singer, you've no doubt heard about the importance of proper breathing.  In fact, deep breathing can he …
