About Kelley
**My schedule changes weekly, so if you don't see a time that works, please send me a message and we may be able to find something!**

Whether you've never had a voice lesson in your life, are looking for fine tuning, or are just curious, I'd love to help you set and achieve your goals! I've studied classical voice for over 17 years, and started teaching about six years ago. I focus on breath control, relieving body tension and any hindrance to beautiful and free sound, diction, and interpretation. I speak French, some Italian, a little German, and can also help with Czech and Russian diction.

My goal for students is that they develop the healthy, efficient, and reliable ability to express themselves through music in a safe and fun environment. I've studied with some of the finest pedagogues in the world, and am comfortable teaching
students at any stage in their musical development.

***Lesson Details***
For beginners, I like to focus on music fundamentals, including theory and aural skills, and building a solid foundation of breath management. For more advanced students, the focus will be refinement and fine tuning--whether it be working on dramatic interpretation, freeing up the sound and any tension in the body, performance anxiety, or languages. We can work on operatic, song, musical theater, and jazz repertoire, languages and diction, dramatic interpretation, and performance skills.

I believe very strongly in singing repertoire appropriate for your age and level, and will not do anything to compromise your development.

Learning to sing requires a great deal of hard work and commitment. Each lesson, I will leave the student with specific exercises and pieces to practice before the next lesson. New exercises may pose challenges, but that's part of the process! If you are struggling with a particular assignment, please do not hesitate to communicate with me, and I will guide you through it, or find an alternative to help you achieve the same goal.

We are all different, and so have different learning styles. Singing lessons should be therapeutic, gratifying, and above all fun! I don't ever want singing to turn into a chore or something you don't enjoy. This should be fun!

***Travel Equipment***
Student should have either a piano or keyboard. A CD player, mirror, and yoga mat are a plus.

***Skype Equipment***
Computer with high-speed internet. I can supply electronic files for sheet music and accompanied tracks.

***More about me***
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Originally from Seal Beach, CA, soprano Kelley received her Master of Music from Rice University, where she studied with world-renowned voice teacher, Dr. Stephen King, and her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from The University of Michigan. She has appeared in full productions and scenes as Contessa Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Frau Fluth (Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor), Musetta/Mimì (La bohème), Corvina (Volpone), Hanna Glawari (The Merry Widow), Countess Madeleine (Capriccio), and Curley's Wife (Of Mice and Men). As a concert soloist, Kelley has sung Mozart's Requiem and Vespers, Rachmaninoff's Bells, Brahms' Liebeslieder Walzer, and Schumann's Spanisches Liederspiel. Kelley is the best! She's very knowledgeable in technique, languages, and repertoire, but she also made it really fun for me. I always wanted to sing but was really nervous about it, so I'm so especially thankful for her warm and supportive personality and professionalism. Highly recommend!

Kelley is a qualified pedagogue who exhibits that all too rare balance of consummate professionalism with a friendly personal touch. She teaches a healthy vocal technique, based on current science and traditional methods, always keeping an eye on the artistic and expressive goal. While some teachers just work on your voice, Kelley also coaches the student as they work to integrate their ideas into a musical/dramatic presentation. Kelley has trained with some of the best teachers in the United States and has a wide knowledge of repertoire both in the classical and Broadway/cabaret genres. Her extensive language skills also make her a great resource for students studying the classical repertoire specifically. I do not recommend voice teachers unless I trust their knowledge and professional demeanor implicitly.

I'm currently an Assistant Professor of Voice working in a school of music at a famous university in a major US city. Over the years, I have sent a variety of my students to work with Kelley, from ages 14-60. Across the board, they all have had a rewarding and fun experience, making significant progress both technically and in their self-confidence. I wholeheartedly recommend Kelley to anyone looking for a voice teacher.

About Tracy
"I've always wanted to learn how to play the piano!"

Well, now's the time! You can do it with no-stress lessons regardless of your age.

I am a mom with a passion for education and music. I am excited to see people, young or old, learn new things and stretch their boundaries. I want you to have fun.

My educational philosophy is that "success breeds success." As I guide the student to achieve small successes at the beginning, you will gain confidence in your ability. As your confidence grows, you will be able to conquer more challenges and succeed beyond what you might expect.

In fact, learning the piano will aid in learning all other musical instruments, improve hand-eye coordination and increase appreciation for music of all genres. But the benefits for your preschooler don't end at the keyboard. It will im
prove language development, math concepts (patterns, and counting), persistence, delayed gratification, critical thinking, logic, history, empathy and much more. And the benefits of playing the piano aren't just for preschoolers. Mature students show improvements in memory, brain function, health and coping with stress and anxiety.

I can't wait to see you or your child enjoy the music as much as I do.

I have been taking piano lessons from Paula for close to 10 years, and it has been great experience. I have learned to play a variety of music from rock to classical. Some qualities I like about Paula is that she is patient, and she will challenge and encourage you. We have played various venues in Knoxville, but my favorite is the Fantasy of Trees. It is a great way to support Children's Hospital. Young or old, I highly recommend Paula for anyone wanting to learn piano.

Upon re-locating to the area, we were referred to Paula Johnson for our daughter's continuing lessons. We were fortunate to have four years with Paula before our daughter left for college. During that time, our daughter was challenged in all genre's of music and excelled under Paula's excellent tutelage. Her instruction in theory and practical application instilled skills in our daughter that she has taken with her into her adult life and will enjoy in the future.

My daughter has been taking piano lessons from Paula for over 4 years, she started when she was just 9 and knew next to nothing about music. Paula is great teacher, very patient and has provided lots of different music options (Disney movie theme songs, Classical, Jazz and Christmas classics) which has helped to keep my daughter interested in continuing to play.

Nicole Frazee, a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, began playing the flute at age thirteen. At a young age, Frazee showed great promise as a musician and was piccolo/third flute of the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony under the direction of John Varineau, Associate Conductor of the Grand Rapids Symphony. She received her Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance in 2009 from Grand Valley State University, where she studied under Judith Kemph (flute/piccolo of the Grand Rapids Symphony) and Nancy Stagnitta. Her freshman year she was winner of the chamber orchestra concerto competition, and later a winner of the upper division scholarship competition, symphony orchestra scholarship and symphonic wind ensemble scholarship. During her years at Grand Valley, Frazee was very involved in the performing ensembles. She was principle flute of the symp
honic wind ensemble, piccolo/third flute of the symphony orchestra, and piccolo/third flute of the pit orchestra. She was also principle flute and piccolo of the GVSU New Music Ensemble, under the direction of distinguished composer Bill Ryan. In 2009, Frazee was one of four students from the New Music Ensemble invited to perform In C at Carnegie Hall with Terry Riley, the Kronos Quartet, and other new music all-stars in celebration of the 45th anniversary of the work. The same year, Frazee was a performer with the New Music Ensemble on their CD, In C: Remixed, recorded by River City Studios. In C: Remixed was nominated for a Grammy, and referred to by Terry Riley as “...one of the best performances of In C ever...” The Washington Post, Time Out Chicago and All About Jazz named In C:Remixed as one of the top ten classical releases of 2009.
Frazee earned her Master of Music degree in 2011 from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, where she studied with Dr. Christine Gustafson and received a tuition scholarship and graduate flute assistantship. While at East Carolina, Frazee was principle flute of the symphony orchestra and symphonic wind ensemble, third flute/piccolo of the pit orchestra, and was a student member of the ECU Faculty’s Eastern Symphony Orchestra.
Frazee is both an active performer and teacher. She has attended many master classes throughout the United States and Canada and has had the opportunity to work with such flutists as Carol Wincenc, Nicholas Duchamp, Regina Helcher Yost, Nina Assimakopolous, Valerie Coleman, Denis Bluteau and world-renowned violinist, Dylana Jenson.
