My teaching experience includes students between the ages of 8 and 70. I believe in the individual approach and decide what music books and methods to use and recommend after the first few lessons with the student. Playing the flute is a great skill that lets you appreciate and express music. It also enhances your focus and the quickness of your mind since you think of a few things simultaneously while playing. For fun you can play your favorite song, compose one or play duets with your teacher.

Flute lessons can be fun, educational and helpfull. Playing the flute is a great skill that lets you appreciate and express music. It also enhances your capability to focus and the quickness of your mind since you think of a few different things simultaneously when playing the instrument. And the fun part - well you can play your favorite song, compose something yourself or have fun playing duets with me or fellow flute students.

Yana is a superb instructor. She promptly identified my strong points and let me know those areas that needed improvement. She is patient, yet she keeps the student moving along to the next goal. I look forward to my next lesson.

I've been playing the flute for over 25 years and teaching for 15. I teach beginning to advanced - age 5 to 99!

About Kimberly

Kimberly was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. After starting the flute and piano at the age of 8, she knew she had found something she loved and wanted in her life forever. At age 12, she added the saxophone and clarinet to her repertoire of instruments. After completing her Bachelors degree in Flute Performance at the University of Arizona she moved to Los Angeles to work on her Masters degree at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). There was where she fell in love with contemporary music and has devoted her life to sharing her love for it with others. After completing her Masters degree in Flute Performance at CalArts, she went on to pursue a Doctorate in Contemporary Flute Performance at the University of California, San Diego. Kimberly now resides in Los Angeles and plays with many groups throughout the city.

Private Flute Teacher
About Gabriel

I view my role as an educator to be bigger than simply training a performer. I believe in creating a complete musician--one who thinks deeply about music. I accomplish this by working on, yes, the technical aspects of playing an instrument, but also through constant listening, ear-training, theory education, and history education. I engage both children and adults through fun activities that build musical knowledge.

*** Lesson Details ***
I take a multi-pronged approach to music education and, likewise, to lessons. Depending on the age and ability of the student, a lesson typically involves a brief warm-up followed by review of earlier material, introduction of new concepts or discussion of improvement areas, then a look forward at what to work on this week. The material ranges from technical exercises such as scales, thirds, finger p

atterns, etc. to ear-training activities, progressive study pieces, and long-term repertoire projects. For some students, I also add listening or light research assignments to encourage musical discovery.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have flutes to rent to students for a small maintenance fee. I provide all of the educational materials for piano students though may ask a student to purchase a book or two. I occasionally can provide or lend sheet music, but mostly I expect the student to purchase those materials as well as books for theory/history.

*** Specialties ***
My flute students receive methods all over the board from Marcel Moyse, Taffanel, and Gaubert to Trevor Wye and Wagner. My theoretical knowledge is quite comprehensive and always taught through a historical lens. My piano students (I have several young beginners currently) receive combined methods from Bartók, Faber and Faber, Bastien, Donald Waxman, and many of my own inventive techniques. I have experience with neurodiverse students.

I have studied the flute for about 17 years, and I been teaching the flute for about 8 years. I began teaching beginners in band sectionals, and have since had experience with beginners, advanced, adults, and everyone in between.
I strive to help my students bring out their artistic voice. Through a solid technique foundation and fun exercises, I can help you on your way to success and beautiful self-expression.

About Kimberly

My educational background is in flute performance; I have completed a Bachelor's from American University, Master's at Catholic University, and Artist Certificate at George Mason University, all in music. I have been teaching flute lessons to students of all different levels, from beginners to adults, since 2010 and would love to add to my studio!

Another passion of mine is math. I began volunteering as a peer tutor in high school and have since had experience in helping a wide variety of ages and ability levels throughout many different curricula. I am able to provide great test taking tips, homework help, and an extra boost to keep students ahead of the class.

Kim is truly amazing in every way. She is the best math tutor in Washington DC hands down. She is patient, smart and extremely easy to work with and learn from. She has helped me enormously prepare for getting into business school. I strongly recommend her to anyone seeking a fantastic math tutor who knows how to break down difficult concepts in a comprehensible manner.

I studied and played flute for 13 years, and have particular experience in 20th century music. I with studied Greer Ellison, a premier Baroque flutist, and teacher of Alexander Technique, and so have a solid foundation in breath management and alignment. If you find that your shoulders and back get particularly tense and tired while playing, I would be able to help you fix that.

About Natalie

My name's Natalie, and I'm a voice and flute teacher! I studied Vocal Performance and Flute Performance at the University of California Santa Cruz, and got my Masters of Music in Vocal Arts at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music.

I specialize in classical voice and opera, though I believe a good vocal technical foundation is applicable to all musical styles. I also teach music theory, for those just getting into music, and for those who would appreciate a refresher. Since I studied both flute and voice, I am especially well trained in breath management and alignment. The breath is the most important thing in both flute and voice. It's what sends our sound out into the world!

Sharon
"Frannie Brodeur has our highest recommendation. Frannie has been teaching our son since he was 7 and thanks to her expert guidance he is, at 15, preparin
g to audition for Juilliard in a few years. Frannie understands how to work with children and teens: our son always feels encouraged not squashed, respected and appreciated rather than criticized. After 8 years, he still looks forward eagerly to his lessons. Frannie is unfailingly sensitive, patient, and humorous, and it's very clear she enjoys kids. Frannie is also a remarkable flutist, and our son aspires to her gorgeous sound. As a professional musician, Frannie is able to meet students at whatever their skill level."
