I have a degree in music with a teaching certificate. I have been teaching cello privately for 10 years. Depending on the age of the child we will start with either Essential Elements or Suzuki cello book one. They will start with proper positioning and plucking. Once they have 8 notes down, we start bowing. As we progress, we will be doing scales, and etudes.

About Chris

I have been teaching private violin for over 20 years, and private viola/cello for about 10. I have taught in Charles and St. Mary's County Public schools. I am a member of American Strings Teacher's Association, National Association for Music Educators (Maryland Music Educators Association), and t

Ms Chris was great my daughter really enjoyed her first lesson. Ms Chris was easy to work with and made my daughter comfortable that she felt free to ask questions and make mistakes without worry. My daughter is looking forward to the next lesson.

If you’re looking for a dedicated, knowledgeable and patient strings teacher, you will love Mrs. Heins. Both of my sons have been taking lessons from Mrs. Heins for several years (one for viola and one for cello). They have learned so much under her instruction, such as earning All-County and All-State honors. They also practice their live performance skills twice a year during informal musical concerts. Mrs. Heins also offers participation in the Royal Conservatory Music Development program, which can earn your child credit for college. She is a gem and should you choose her, you won’t be disappointed.

Mary Elizabeth has been a great help in preparing me for college auditions! She helped me choose audition material that was right for me and helped not only with vocal technique but with acting choices and my overall performance. I felt more than prepared when it came time to film prescreens and audition. I have definitely become a better singer because of my lessons with Mary-Elizabeth, and I would not have done as well at my auditions without her.

"Professionalism and excellence, Mr. Lasten lives to teach music.

My son is 10 yrs old and has been taking lessons with Mr. Lasten for almost 9 months now. To enroll my son in guitar lessons with Mr. Lasten has been one of the best decisions I have made for my son's life; as a minimum, it has enriched his spirit, it has given him art, a new challenge, inspiration, confidence, and companionship for life! Mr. Lasten has guided and taught my son with professionalism, patience, love and dedication, and it reflects on the love my son has for the guitar. Mr. Lasten is an excellent professor and great human being. I highly recommend Mr. Lasten as a music professor. vsc"

"I was looking for a teacher that was able to teach (a lot) of the gaps I have in my playing. I learned to play other people songs and had cover bands, but never really thought about what I was doing.

Indigo approach to the guitar is exactly what I was looking for: A harmony / melody first approach that is guiding me through theory in a simple, natural way.

I don't need to memorize scale shapes, chords shapes. In a couple of weeks I've learned to understand them and I we're starting to dive deeper.

Overall Indigo is clearly knowledgeable, extremely patient and is able to communicate complex subjects in a simple way. I feel that I am evolving a lot each week and this is even more than I was looking for.

I highly recommend Indigo if you're looking to learn to play the guitar or understand it like I did!"
