About Dennis
I have been teaching guitar for 25 years in the Washington DC metro area. I work with students 12 years of age and up, but I am especially experienced at teaching adult students regardless of whether they are beginners or have previous guitar experience. I have performed in acoustic Celtic, new age, funk, progressive rock, fusion and contemporary jazz groups and am currently performing regularly as a solo acoustic guitarist. I have composed over 40 works for solo guitar as well as numerous pieces for small jazz bands. I have played on numerous CDs including my most recent solo CD 'DARK MATTER'.

*** Lesson Details ***
I tailor the lesson materials to suit the interest of the student but I am dedicated to teaching students at any level to learn to better understand the fundamentals of the language of music. My teaching focuses on critic
al fundamentals of guitar technique including chords, scales and rhythm guitar playing as well as the art of improvisation. A significant amount of time in the lessons is spent actually playing with the students so that the technical concepts are put to use in real music situations. To further the student's understanding of music I frequently teach elements of music theory to those who are interested.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have guitars and amps available for student use although I prefer that the student bring their own instrument. I also have all the needed accessories, cables, stands etc.

*** Specialties ***
Adult students (and older teenagers ) whether beginners or experienced are a particular specialty of mine. Adult learners want to be treated as adults and often times benefit greatly from a more mentor oriented approach to teaching. I like to describe myself as both a teacher and a coach so as to emphasize that the student and I are on the same team sharing the goal of improving their guitar playing and musicianship. We are both on the same path of musical discovery. I am probably just farther along on that path with insights and knowledge that will hopefully help them along their way.

Dennis was my instructor and is a bit modest about his experience. He taught me on my mom's crappy nylon stringed spanish acoustic guitar back in the 80s. I hope he reads this and remembers the little studios at Fox's Music in Falls Church. He patiently taught me Rick Springfield songs, probably against his taste and better judgment. Anyway, he got me started in my teens and I'm still playing some of the tunes he taught me (plus a few hundred others) on a slightly nicer guitar these days, in my 40s. Keep rockin', Dennis, and thanks for helping spark a hobby I still enjoy decades later!

About Peter
I am a traditional Scottish musician specializing in 18th century music. I have studied Highland bag piping since 2001 and Scottish Fiddling since 2002 (with a background in classical violin). I teach both Scottish Fiddle and Highland Bagpipes, as well as Scottish Small pipes and Border pipes.

I have supplemented these areas of knowledge by studying Gaelic since 2007 and Clàrsach (wire-strung harp) since 2012. I have performed with the Potomac Valley Scottish Fiddle Club and the City of Alexandria Pipes and Drums since 2004, for weddings and Scottish Country Dances since 2006, and founded the Scottish Folk-Acoustic band The Devil's Tailors in 2008, and lead the only DC-area open Scottish jam session. I also participate in a living history unit reenacting the 1745 rebellion in the Highlands, leading me to study the music's historical co
ntext.

My approach to Scottish traditional music is holistic; I feel it's important to experience how song feeds into instrumental music, and how the instrumental traditions interact with one another, and impart that broader view to my students. My focus is mostly on the folk traditions, though for bagpipe students, I teach the current and formal pipe band technique and repertoire as a foundation.

I have twice qualified for the US National Scottish Fiddling Championship, and was 4th place overall in Grade 4 Senior out of almost 850 pipers in 2006, and have been taking an extended hiatus from competition.

Peter is very patient and exceptionally knowledgeable. He is very analytical in his teaching. I am a new student (only a few lessons) and I am confident he will be able to provide the critical but positive instruction and encouragement that I need. His enthusiasm and passion for music is contagious. In fact, he gives detailed oral histories and music theory explanations related to the topic of the lesson. Most teachers boot you out when time is up - not Peter - he always finishes on the right note. Plus he has an adorable cat assistant, Rory, as a side kick.

Ms. Alice is one of the most memorable piano teachers I've taken lessons with. I would always look forward to piano lessons because she would make them fun yet still be able to move forward in songs and techniques. Whenever Ms. Alice plays a section of a song for demonstration, I could feel the emotion behind her playing and I think that plays a role in her being an excellent piano teacher.
I enjoyed my lessons with Ms. Alice very much and I strongly believe that anyone who takes lessons with her will enjoy them as well.

I am a professional trumpet player and teacher of all levels. I have performed across the US, Canada, UK, and Europe with groups the likes of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, the Miami City Ballet, Naples Philharmonic, Southwest Florida Symphony, South Florida Symphony, the Aspen Music Festival, the National Academy Orchestra of Canada, the Henry Mancini Institute, the Dartington Music Festival in the UK, a solo recital tour of Italy and many others. I also premiered a concerto for solo trumpet called Fanfares for the Apocalypse by Rome Prize winner, Ken Ueno which can be heard in my videos.

I have had the privilege of studying with some of the best trumpet teachers and players in the world. I earned my Doctorate in Trumpet Performance from the University of Miami. I have well over a decade of experience teaching trumpet at
all levels including repertoire, technical help, and even chop rebuilds. I am familiar and have taught nearly all of the major pedagogical trumpet methods including Arban, Schlossberg, Stamp, Thompson, Franquin, Caruso, and of course CIarke. I went through a major embouchure change in 2009 and have come from barely being able to play, to playing with professional groups and making a living as a trumpet player. I am proof that dedication and hard work do pay off and can result in a real career playing the trumpet, despite the odds. As your teacher and guide, I will commit to seeing you succeed and provide you with the necessary tools to do so.

“…visionary and tireless trumpeter “ Edward Carroll

“Philippe is a person that sees no obstacle that cannot be overcome. In fact, he sees that obstacle as a play-toy to invent and to discover new innovations with creativity and aplomb.” Russell DeVuyst, former associate principal Montreal Symphony.

“Virtuosity was decidedly the order of the evening. . . .P. T. Barnum probably would have said that the ability to bear witness to such a breadth of skills would have made last night’s concert worth the price of admission. On the whole, I suspect I would have agreed with him.”

If you're a fan of classic country music, you've come to the right place. Here, guitar teacher Willy M. shares his favorite classic country songs for guitarists... I grew up in the late '70s and early '80s in the rural Midwest when "Hee-Haw," a country television program, was something that everyone knew about. Beginner Basics: How to Read Violin Sheet Music
The most valuable skill you can develop as a musician is learning to read music. While it’s possible to learn to play “by ear,” reading music opens up the world to you as an artist! There are many different ways to write music. Guitarists often read off of charts outlining the chord progressions for the song. Drummers have a rhythm chart showing them what to play.
