comfortable teaching most styles, including R&B, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Funk, Rock and Metal. I try to encourage all students to learn the basics of music theory, so you can understand the music you learn.

-I use a wide range of method books. I also use books that I have authored, which have been used in music programs in Baltimore area private schools and charter schools.

Jason tailors the course to a student's individual learning pace and needs. There is also a good combination between theory and learning cords to play a song. Technique is emphasized to build good habits and a foundation for future growth.

About Richard
I am a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory and I hold two degrees in piano performance. Through my world-class teachers I can trace my musical education lineage directly to Mozart, Liszt, Haydn, Chopin, Mendelssohn and Beethoven. Over several decades I have taught more than 3,000 beginning and advanced students, a number of whom have gone on to earn piano performance scholarships from prestigious conservatories, music schools and universities. I have composed my own course method based on the piano teaching method of Carl Czerny, a student of Beethoven and the teacher of Franz Liszt. Beginners quickly gain confidence to perform in public and learn to perform increasingly difficult and lengthy compositions such as the Beethoven sonatas, Chopin scherzos, works of J.S.Bach and many others all from memory. One of my students just complet
ed, from memory, a Beethoven sonata of 28 pages. Several of my students are on youtube.

*** Lesson Details ***
Students must have a piano or keyboard at home and are expected to practice every day. I have written and published the music and the course of study for all first year beginners; They learn proper fingering, how to memorize music by learning finger patterns, and how to count in rhythm. The more time they spend in practice will determine how quickly they advance, Upon completion of my initial course, they begin to study works by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and Chopin. Children can begin lessons from the age of 4. Parents of students from 4 to 8 years of age must sit in on lessons and practice regularly with the child at home.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In my studio are two Mason Hamlin grand pianos. A professional concert adjustable stool and a collection of nearly all classical piano music. There is a waiting room with coloring books and a TV.

*** Travel Equipment ***
When I teach in my students' homes, they must have a piano.

*** Specialties ***

I am a senior in my 70s. Teacher very cordial. Liked his way of explaining the way to learn the piano. I never played so was a bit nervous. He inspired me. Practice lessons were enjoyable. Looking forward to my additional lessons. First time in my life with belief that I will be able to play the piano.

About Jonathan
I have studied with Wanchi Huang at James Madison University for six years. At JMU, I earned a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music, both in violin performance. I received my D.M.A. at Catholic University of America, studying with Jody Gatwood. When I was a student at JMU, I taught several students privately. The students ranged from retirees to JMU faculty and students to adolescents. I am now teaching at Baltimore Talent Education Center, where I teach violin in small groups and individual lessons. The students at BTEC range from pre- kindergarden through high school. I also have festival experience. I have been a student at Brevard Music Center, Heifetz International Music Institute, BayView Music Festival, and I was a Teaching Fellow at Interlochen Arts Camp. Through my experiences both as a student and as a teacher, I un
derstand that every student is a little bit different. Every student has different strengths and weaknesses. Every student has a different learning style. Every student has a different way of understanding things, a different way of processing information, and a different personality all together. It will be my job as a teacher to get to know each student individually and use my teaching methods to teach the student how to play the violin and help him or her to reach his or her goals.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back person. I am easy-going, enthusiastic about violin playing and about teaching and learning music, and I am very patient with my students as well. However, I am also very demanding. I explain and demonstrate objectives in a very precise way, and I demand a lot of detailed work from my students, inside and outside the lesson. I explain specifically what I want the student to do. By the end of every lesson, the student will have specific things to work on for next time. I expect each student to make practicing a habit, and practice regularly what has been discussed in the lesson. I try to make the lessons as pleasant and as laid-back as possible. But I become more firm, serious, and strict when a student either is not making an effort or does not practice enough outside the lesson.
I start students off with the Suzuki method. We work on techniques to hold the violin properly, hold the bow properly, and get a decent sound out of the violin, without too much physical tension. A student begins by learning to play by ear. After he or she is comfortable playing by ear, we associate the notes that the student hears and plays on the violin with written notes on a page.
We also work with the Paul Roland methods so that the student can learn the violin in a basic, rudimentary way. It involves a lot of repetitive patterns, back and forth motions that are slow and round, and avoiding excessive tension. This will give the student the tools that he or she needs to learn how to play the violin in a short period of time.
In three to six months, a student who is a beginner will be able to hold the violin and bow comfortably, create a decent sound on the violin, and play the Twinkle Variations, and maybe a few other songs.
If the student has played violin before, then in three to six months, he or she will have had some rehabilitation to get rid of tension and force, overcome some bad habits he or she may have developed, and review the fundamentals of violin playing. I will improve the student's approach to the violin, and by the end of the three to six months, he or she will have a better idea on how to practice and play the violin.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, seating for parents in the living room,

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide a stand.
I will expect the student to have a violin, rosin, and a pencil.

*** Specialties ***
Suzuki Method- a starting point, particularly for kids, but for people of all ages. It is a good way to begin learning the violin by playing by ear, developing a strong, clear tone, and bringing out one's individuality through his/her musical development and his/her ability to be expressive.

In a matter of time, I want the student to get used to reading music, in addition to playing by ear. This can be done through the pieces in the Suzuki method or through other music.

Eventually, I take the student off of the Suzuki method and work with him or her on classical repertoire.

About Rachel
I started playing guitar and singing when I was 13 when I got a Christmas present from my father. Learning covers for a few years, I eventually started writing my own music around age 16. I also competed in talent shows and sang at church during high school. When I was 18, my friends and I started a jam band.

Went through a couple drummers then went our separate ways not even a year in. Since then, I’ve been playing as a solo musician but also playing in worship bands. I also have had opportunities to duet with people live sporadically. From 2011-2012, I recorded an album entitled “Wouldlawn, Couldlawn, Shouldlawn.” I named it that because I lived in an area called Woodlawn and my dad used to say the album’s title as a joke.

This was all in my spare time, I was a waitress since age 19. I didn’t start playing music full time until l
ate 2013. Playing mostly in small bars, coffeehouses, and private events/parties. And in August 2016, I started teaching guitar. Took a total break from playing music.

To get back into the groove of things, I started my own by doing online concerts. I also started recording music videos for and doing social media lives.

I also:

> Absolutely love salsa and could eat it at every meal
> Really despise being tickled
> Was born, raised and still reside in Maryland
> Love animals more than people
> Like the color "pillager purple"
> Love rose gold
> Still have the same guitar tuner from when I was 13 (and it still works)

I still teach guitar and I’m blessed to be playing in the worship band at The Cause Church in Elkridge, MD. I also play in the Spanish ministry on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month; and at the Elkridge Spanish market (w/ the ministry team) the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month. I also hold online workshops on Saturdays I'm not playing. I gig about once a month at coffeehouses.

My style is indie folk; and I play a mix of originals and covers. My main singing influences are Gwen Stefani, Karen O from The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Fiona Apple. My main music influences are Death Cab for Cutie, The White Stripes & Modest Mouse.

I have only had one lesson with Rachel so far but I can already tell I made the best decision in selecting her as my instructor. She is very organized and has a clear plan for progression, starting with a deep understanding of the basics - posture, hand position, reading music, and music theory - then goes deeper into topics as you progress. What I also like that Rachel provides clear practice goals and exercises. Rachel is a top notch instructor.

Excellent music teacher and my child is enjoys going to Ms. Ann classes.

To mention that my family knows Mrs. Ann Keen for over 10 years. We happened to know Ms. Ann from the NIST Child Care Center because she worked as a preschool teacher with both of my kids. Being a wonderful teacher my kids keep in touch with her. They absolutely loved her. My daughter started taking piano lessons with Ms. Ann when she was 4.5years old. Ms. Ann had taught everything, starting with all background of music elements and following deeper into techniques. patient with kids. I observed continuous enthusiasm for playing the music (songs, classic and pop). My daughter learned something new every lesson.
