Book NowI love sharing my passion for music through teaching. To me, music should be a conduit of self-expression—it is not merely something we do, but rather who we are. While there are many great players who have perfected the technical elements of their craft, it is the greatest musicians who find a way to speak through their art. I strongly believe that we all have the potential to speak through our music, and that the right teacher can inspire that in a student. I hope I can be that teacher for you.
I work with students on both the craft and creative side of music in an enthusiastic and nurturing environment. This approach is aimed at awakening a student's drive to explore their own musical path both inside and outside the lesson. Within a lesson, we will work on (1) instrumental technique and basic music theory, very important aspects to us as players, and (2) improvisation/composition and having creative musical discussions, which are invaluable to us as creatives. From my experience,

Book NowI have been teaching professional piano lessons for 13 years. I am educated in Classical and Jazz Piano. Classical has taught me the structure and fundamentals of piano while Jazz has shown me how to improvise and play with other musicians.
I customize lesson plans to fit individual learning styles of students while incorporating songs the student picks. I have taught songs from Disney, Movie Soundtracks, Video Game Soundtracks, Pop and Rock artists and more. I also assist in Student Showcases which allows me to show my students how to play along with other musicians. Music is a big part of my life and I hope that I can pass on that joy to each of my students.

Twenty eight years of experience working with students of all levels and ages has shaped me into the teacher I am today. Although I do tailor my sessions to suit the individual student, here are some expectations you can have of me.
Beginning students up to age 11 typically begin with the Bastien method. This curriculum is great at introducing interval recognition. I supplement this with fun pieces from Alfred, where students can strengthen sight reading skills. Flashcards are also used as reinforcement.
Older kids and adults will begin with Alfred's adult course and progress quickly into independent playing.
For all ages - After the student has reached a level of more independent playing, the student/parent will help select the direction in which we progress. Classical music, composition, and popular music are just a few of the possibilities!
All lesson books and materials are provided by me and are included in the cost of lessons. Students are welcome to provide additional

Jeff is everything you'd want in a drum instructor: he is highly skilled, has thorough knowledge of drumming styles and technique, and he is an excellent communicator. On top of that he is thoughtful, polite and listens carefully. This is all a very, very rare combination.
I had to play a couple of slow gospel tunes for a church service this summer; Jeff very quickly found suitable and tasteful grooves for me that were within my capability to play. He also worked with me on some rudiments and provided invaluable feedback. I can't recommend him highly enough."

It's an awesome feeling when you start making music! And after you've mastered a few songs, you might even have the itch to start branching out. Here, Doswell, VA teacher Jesse S. answers the question: Once you learn guitar, how easy is it to switch to bass, mandolin, or other stringed instruments? This is a question that I hear frequently in guitar lessons. Most students who start playing guitar will eventually become interested in trying to learn another stringed instrument; but doe …
