Book NowI love sharing my passion for music through teaching. To me, music should be a conduit of self-expression—it is not merely something we do, but rather who we are. While there are many great players who have perfected the technical elements of their craft, it is the greatest musicians who find a way to speak through their art. I strongly believe that we all have the potential to speak through our music, and that the right teacher can inspire that in a student. I hope I can be that teacher for you.
I work with students on both the craft and creative side of music in an enthusiastic and nurturing environment. This approach is aimed at awakening a student's drive to explore their own musical path both inside and outside the lesson. Within a lesson, we will work on (1) instrumental technique and basic music theory, very important aspects to us as players, and (2) improvisation/composition and having creative musical discussions, which are invaluable to us as creatives. From my experience,

This is a subject often thought of as akin to magic! Michael Jackson gliding onto the stage, Vladimir Horowitz shuffling to the piano producing as much static electricity as the lightening bolts falling electrifying the audience at the age of their seats....
What is that secret ingredient that makes the actor on the silver screen the lead role and identifies without a doubt a relationship to the audience that can not be easily defined. Is it leadership? Self awareness of greatness with no false modesty or ego? Is it the experience the audience have had before to know this is going to be a memory of an experience they will never forget? No, it seems these fantastic individuals have that effect on the audience even before they were heard or seen or experienced in performance before. When Barishnikov leaps or walks onto the stage, that energy is a cloak around his shoulders no matter what costume he wears. That super hero cloak of amazing energy is the material we will be ...

He created a welcoming environment in our online lessons that made it easy to be vulnerable and get right to working on new skills.
I highly recommend for others looking to better understand their voice and communication style, and learn to hone them.
Joseph’s technical ‘short cuts’ are amazing! He illustrates ways for your hands and your mind to work that are tailor made for you. Learning from him is so fun it seems almost effortless.
The way Joseph teaches allows you to develop at your own pace. The atmosphere is always relaxed yet everything moves along quickly.
At the open classes I attend, his other students are progressing very rapidly too. After each class, we share our impressions. The mood is elated because it feels like we stepped back in time and into history.
Joseph often quotes inspired wisdom of his historic teachers in our lessons. He is a great inspiration on his own with great musical insights.
I’m playing Beethoven and Chopin works I never thought I could approach at this stage of study, with great depth of understanding. I now play with greater passion and skill, get compliments from everyone I play for, and no longer worry about playing in public.
I look forward to each and every lesson with Joseph. His encouragement and support makes learning so rewarding! Anyone who finds this musical treasure is a lucky person and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I approach my teaching by finding every singer's true and honest voice, and then exploring ways to make that voice as free and beautiful as possible. In the course of our lessons I will utilize techniques to explore breath control, resonance, range and freedom of not only the voice, but the body's ability to express while performing.
Every person that is capable of speech is capable of singing beautifully, and I fully embrace that mantra as a teacher. With that approach, I teach a wide variety of styles, ranging from Music Theater to classically informed Operatic Singing. Let's make some music!
