Students interested in learning songwriting can explore many different styles and approaches. I have been writing songs for more than 8 years and have recorded 6 full length albums of original material in a variety of genres including rock, blues, country, reggae, bluegrass, Americana, and folk. My students can expect thorough instruction and study based on classic and modern songwriting techniques in the genres of interest. We will study "music first" songwriting, "words first" songwriting, and improvisational techniques, as well as "cut and paste multi-tracking". Poetry, prose, nonsensical, call and response, storytelling, and traditional are all avenues of exploration.

About Richard

Music is my life. Since the age of 16, I have studied the guitar extensively. During my high-school years I was involved in band, marching band, choir, and independent music theory. I started my first band when I was 19 in the U.S. Army, and my life has never been the same since. I played music

Richard was amazing! Always a joy to have him in the house. He was always on time and well prepared for our daughter's lessons. He also kept the lessons entertaining for her. Our daughter learned a lot and definitely improved quite a bit during the time he worked with her. We would highly recommend Richard to any parent with a child interested in learning and playing guitar.

I have 2 years teaching music theory, I love it! In college I became a total theory nerd, and I love discussing and teaching it. I can teach classical theory or jazz theory, and also implement ear training exercises. I start out teaching notes on the treble and bass clefs and move to key signatures, chords, and harmonies.

About Stephen

I earned my bachelor's degree in music with emphasis in jazz performance in drums from Webster University in 2014. I have played countless performances ranging all styles of music!

The flute is an enchanting instrument, and it's so fun to learn! While it can be challenging, after just a few lessons with me, you can be playing some simple tunes. One of my dedicated students played a duet with me after just three lessons! I personally have been playing the flute for 17 years. I have performed in high school and college bands, and have been able to gain some teaching experience in the last few years. Our lessons will cover terminology, note reading, site reading, and technique, especially best embouchure practices.

About Rachel

Hello, my name is Rachel. I have been playing the flute for 17 years, ever since I was nine years old. I played in a small beginner band for about three years, during which I was also in school flute competitions. My flute teacher had a strong emphasis on rhythm and counting, for which I'm grateful

Rachel is an excellent flutist. She was very patient with me, an adult beginner student. She was very encouraging and strove to make lessons musically satisfying by providing songs that were easy for me to play.

These lessons are focused on re-awakening the student to their creative potential through authentic self-expression. Although centered around the voice, Michelle will use various techniques to help unlock any resistance or hesitation to expressing ones whole self more fully in the world. By first understanding and recognizing the voice as a vessel for creativity and authenticity, we can then cultivate habits and techniques, which allow the student to gain confidence, joy and inspiration through the expression of their authentic self. These lessons are ideal for those wishing to gain more confidence in their speaking voice, the individual looking to overcome any type of performance anxiety and/or for the student wishing to cultivate a speaking voice that more fully reflects and resonates the individual they desire to express themselves as. This can also be a wonderful opportunity for the seasoned performer to take their artistry and connection to their craft to the next level.

My daughter has been taking lessons with Jessica for six years (since she was 7 years old) . Jessica immediately developed a rapport with her and put her at ease to focus on enjoying the harp. As an instructor, she is extremely patient and kind. Also, she teaches at her harp store so it is very convenient for instrument maintenance such as getting replacement strings. Most recently, she has gotten my daughter performance-ready for several competitions and auditions. What we most appreciate is Jessica providing opportunities to expand her world through harp.

"We switched instructors three years ago and we have been so pleased with the boys' progress, not only in their ability but also in their understanding of technique and musicality. Daniela has helped them to advance beyond merely playing correctly to playing with understanding, appreciation, expression, and emotion. She doesn't take her students one song at a time through a book, but she helps the kids select a piece they want to learn to master, and then they work until it is played with perfection."

"Highly recommended!

Andrew is an outstanding drum teacher. I took lessons from him for about two years when he was based in Los Angeles. He is well-versed in a variety of teaching styles and I was always amazed by his skill whenever he improvised on the drum set. His ability to break complicated sequences into more digestible pieces was immensely helpful and was invaluable when tackling more challenging beats. He is also an exceptionally patient and encouraging teacher.

He is very receptive to teaching students what they are interested in learning. One of the parts of my lessons I looked forward to was applying what I had learned that class by playing along to some of my favorite songs.

Andrew was very flexible and willing to accomodate my ever-changing schedule. Really personable and funny, too!

I was bummed to hear he was moving to the east coast. If he were still in LA, I would absolutely still be taking lessons from him!"

How to Tell if Your Old Piano is Worth Restoring

Are you curious about how to restore a piano that's been sitting in your basement or storage unit unused? Was an old piano passed down to you, and you're not quite sure how to make it playable? Here, Katy, TX music teacher Zachary A. shares his advice...   A piano is not only a part of the art of music, it is also a work of art itself. The machine is extremely complex and has thousands of moving parts. The piano is also one of the few instruments out there that has stood the test of time …
