Working professional in the quant finance/trading industry with a Bachelor's degree in actuarial science (business/math). I will provide the perfect balance between academic theory and actual practice in the industry.

I also have 10 years of tutoring experience to both children and adults alike.

I recommend just starting with a single 15-minute lesson to see if we are good fits for each other and start a roadmap to progress toward your goals! My rates is for a one-off session, so it is extremely negotiable if we work together regularly.

About Bill

I have always been a self-studier my entire life. Being able to learn with just books and your brain is a crucial skill to have. However, I know not everyone (and sometimes even myself) have the discipline and motivation to keep going during hard times. Or maybe the teacher/professor is not the best

I teach every student the technical skills and applied theory necessary to work in any contemporary style on guitar. I use the "Be better than you have to be" approach. Want to be the best on a bad day? Be better than your chosen style requires. I studied classical and jazz in order to excel at rock, folk and blues.
You will learn to read music and charts for guitar, as well as movable scale patterns, movable chord forms, and how to apply it all to master the fretboard.
Have you hit a road block? I can help. Are you brand new and want to be sure you understand the instrument completely? I can help.

"Jerry has been a wonderful teacher for my 11-year-old beginner cornet player. My son had no prior formal music training and Jerry has been patient with providing basic music instruction. My child really enjoys their two 30-minute sessions each week and I know his progress is largely due to Jerry’s instruction. Jerry provides an appropriate amount of homework to complete throughout the week and gives encouraging feedback. I am glad that we found Jerry on TakeLessons and highly recommend him as a trumpet instructor."

"A year ago Catherine taught my 13 year old daughter the Chanter and the basics of the Bagpipe. She was very wonderful in the way she communicated on Skype and made each lesson fun and inspiring. My daughter was very eager to spend the time with Catherine and have lessons at least twice a week. Unfortunately, my daughters gymnastics schedule took over and we were not able to continue. As soon as gymnastics ends we hope to be back with Catherine and continue the lessons. She is wonderful, professional and a great inspiring teacher. My daughter and I highly recommend Catherine to anyone looking to learn this wonderful instrument. Catherine is a beautifully skilled musician and the the best to teach the art of the Bagpipe. See you soon!"

Learning Guitar: Understanding Minor and 7th Chords

What are minor and 7th chords anyway? TakeLessons teacher Brian T. breaks down the music theory behind building these chords... Learning guitar chords is one of the early challenges of learning the guitar. Very often a new student will find themselves presented with a host of fingering patterns that make little sense. "Why this set of frets and not that one?" the student wonders "Why, when I move my E major down a string does it become A minor?" With just a bit of music theory and a willi …

8-Year-Old Girl is Gnarliest Guitar Shredder Ever

I'm willing to bet that "playing like a girl" will stop being an insult within this little lady's lifetime! At just 8 years old, Lisa-X is able to play rapid fire metal solos that will melt your face off and blow your mind. She's smaller than her guitar, but she sure knows how to make it sound big and mighty. Plus, the sweet grin she gives the camera as she's bending a note around 1:46? Priceless! Child prodigies like Lisa are absolutely amazing, but there's really no wrong age to sta …
