Nathaniel taught my son who was a beginning player on the bass guitar. I couldn't be more please with the results. Nathaniel did all the normal teacher stuff--had a plan, had prepared goals, gave music homework, was timely--but on top of that he had a friendly, inviting personality that invited my son to want to spend time learning music. It was Nathaniel's happy, inviting attitude that really made things click during my son's lessons and I'm thankful he was willing to take him in as one of his students.

Hi! My name is Martina and I am a classically trained violist. For my background, I received a Master of Music from Roosevelt University, where I studied with Lawrence Neuman of the Chicago Symphony. I received an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin with Sally Chisholm of the Pro Arte quartet.

The only thing I love more than playing viola is sharing the joy of music with others! I've received training on violin and viola and can't wait to start teaching you or your child.

About Paulette
Hello!

My name is Paulette L., and I am a recent graduate of Elmhurst College, which is located in the nearby suburb of Elmhurst, Illinois. In May, I earned my Bachelor's in Music Business along with minors in Communications and Spanish.

Music has played a significant role in my life since I began studying piano at the age of 5, and it continued to play this significant role after I began taking guitar lessons at the age of 10. After about 7 years of piano studies and 2 years of guitar studies, I decided to take a small break from my overall music studies and instead place my focus on my academics and additional extracurricular activities. Shortly after beginning high school, however, I started up my guitar studies again through my involvement in my Parish'€™s Young Adult Choir/Band. Shortly afterwards, during my sophomo
re year of high school to be precise, I was walking by the piano in the living room of my house and felt a small tug to sit down and try to plunk out a few measures of a slightly familiar song; ever since then, I have not been quite able to stop wanting to keep learning!

Throughout the four years I studied and enhanced my skills at Elmhurst College, I took private lessons for Piano, Classical Guitar, and Voice, and I have completed four levels of Music Theory. I am organized, hard~working, detail~oriented, accustomed to working with people of a variety of age groups and learning preferences, sociable, adaptable, easy to get along with, fair, creative, pro~active, and proficient in English and Spanish.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact TakeLessons and I wish you the best in your future music studies!

Playing and learning an instrument is beneficial to ones being because it is a great way to express ones self and it's an excellent stress reliever. It's also an amazing feeling playing an instrument you love to listen to.

Learning any instrument could be daunting at first because there is so much to learn and without any help, could feel overwhelming and hopeless. Do not fret because I am here to assist you!
I have studied many music genres all across the board and have a professional knowledge and comprehension of the theory encompassed behind them. Every lesson is crafted for each student in specific areas they have interest in while being done at the students own pace.

My background history:

I immersed myself in music at a very young age, studying classical piano and theory. In my teenage years I took the initiative to le
arn guitar and began by purchasing my own guitar and books and taught myself to play electrical and classical guitar. I followed my passion and continued my studies at Columbia College and graduated with a bachelors degree in Instrumental Performance.

Post-graduation, I have experienced playing in multiple bands, performing in concerts, teaching piano and guitar ranging in all levels at a music center and private home and enjoying some traveling.

Everything I have learned will be reflected in my lesson methodology and will help you learn to play proficiently in a timely manner. I look forward to meeting new prospective students while having fun teaching them music.

About Amanda
I am a classically trained opera singer with a 18-year background studying voice and performing on stage. I have experience with a variety of styles: classical, musical theater, pop, jazz, rock and more. I perform all over the Chicagoland area in various bands and I am currently a member of improv-opera group Forte Chicago, which works to debunk the stereotypes of opera as an art form.

I began teaching beginner voice lessons a few years ago and I have found that sharing music with my students brings me so much joy. My past and current voice students ranged in age from 8-65.

I play piano as much as I can for my lessons. We will use recorded accompaniment (karaoke tracks, piano accompaniment tracks, etc) as needed.

I have extensive knowledge of music education techniques, music history, and theory. I am also proficient in Itali
an, French, German, Spanish, and Latin. My many years of professional chorus work and time as a section leader also contribute to my ability as a teacher and singer.

I teach lessons out of my Irving Park home.
I have a very friendly Siberian Husky, Lando, who will be present at lessons at my home. He usually sits on the couch or floor and sleeps during lessons. If you're lucky, he might sing along!

I enjoyed the classes with Vocal Coach Amanda because I learned the fundamentals of singing in an entertaining fashion. In addition, you are not going to believe it, but as a test, she asked me to perform Halleluja in a duet in front of 100 people at a reception at the John Hancock Center. I passed the test because she also worked on helping me to build confidence. My grade to Coach Amanda is A+. Unfortunately, I am spending my summer in South America and I cannot continue until Fall. Looking forward to take more singing classes with Coach Amanda.

I teach students of all ages and stages. Having studied piano for 16 years and voice for 4 years, my students can expect to learn theory and technique along with repertoire. I encourage my students to practice for at least ten minutes every day! All members of my studio have the opportunity to perform for and collaborate with one another in three recitals each year.

In addition to teaching a studio of 20 musicians (ages 4–65), I am a professional choral director. I graduated from Michigan State University (2018) with a Masters in Choral Conducting and from Oberlin College (2012) with a Bachelors in Music, Concentration in Choral Conducting.

We recently started piano lessons with Ms Lydia and we can’t say enough good things. Our daughter Emerson asks each day if Ms Lydia is coming to play piano. And we believe that is because of Ms Lydia's positive attitude, happy personality and ability to make learning music so much fun! Ms Lydia has already taught my daughter so much in regards to music and reading notes. Emerson enjoys each lesson so much that she practices the piano on her own. We are so grateful for Ms Lydia. She’s engaging, caring and her passion for music is contagious!

Lydia is a great teacher! She selects great music for my level and offers me suggestions to improve my ability. I enjoy practicing everyday and she never gets frustrated when I make mistakes but shows me correct fingering.

I began playing at 13 years old, and have taken lessons from many other teachers and now I'm 69 and have MS, she does a great job with me!

I started Suzuki violin lessons at the age of 3 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Music degree from UW-Milwaukee. In following years, I did post graduate work at Alverno College and went on to complete Suzuki teacher training in Suzuki Books 1-4. Besides teaching private violin, viola, and piano lessons, I perform regularly with Fretless Strings, Bowtime, Nine Worlds Ensemble, Animal Farm, Electric 5, and occasionally with various orchestras. I've had the extreme pleasure of performing with such notables as the rock band Kansas, Peter Cetera from the rock group Chicago, Rod Stewart, Final Fantasy "Distant Worlds: Milwaukee" show, Doc Severinsen, Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses, and most recently at Riot Fest with That Dog. I've also had the privilege of recording music for Milwaukee Public Television as well as for Chica
go-area composers and singer-songwriters.

Stephanie is patient, quick to respond and very flexible. I'm a adult beginner and she has been my teacher for a year now. She makes me feel comfortable when learning. I have a very busy schedule and she is always willing to work with me including coming to my home late at night. She is easy going and it's been a great year and I have learned alot! I definitely recommend and am continuing lessons with her!

Stephanie is wonderful. First of all, she is a truly virtuosic player. She plays beautifully. That is hugely important. Never hire a violin teacher who does not make a gorgous sound. She makes a gorgeous sound. Second, she is an amazing TEACHER. She knows how to tailor her approach to the student’s unique learning style and musical tastes. She can take you through a purely classical curriculum, or she can also help you learn to play your favorite pop songs. I have been taking lessons with her for two years and my adult (step)daughter who has Down Syndrome has been studying with her for a little over a year. I have progressed consistently and my stepdaughter has also progressed consistently. Stephanie definitly knows how to collaborate with me to adapt her lessons to my (step)daughter’s special needs. My (step)daughter loves her lessons and Stephanie mixes things up to keep her excited and motivated to practice. Stephanie prepares more in advance for lessons than any instrument teacher I have ever observed. She creates her own teaching aids for each student, personalized to their needs. She has formal Suzuki training both as a learner and teacher, so she knows the Suzuki curriculum, and can use a strictly Suzuki approach for people who want that, but she also knows the scope and sequences of skills so thoroughly that she can guide students without relying on Suzuki if that approach is preferred. She takes a positive approach, helping students to learn to listen to and evaluate their own playing rather than over critiquing. She teaches students to practice effectively, and uses questions to gently guide students to draw appropriate conclusions about what they need to do to improve their playing. She paces lessons well. She does not require perfection before moving on, but also discourages racing through repertoire without developing the target skill represented by the repertoire. She does not waste lesson time. She uses lesson time very efficiently. Her demeanor is warm, calm, mindful, gentle and kind, but firm about holding students to appropriately high expectations. I started wth her as an adult beginner and have loved every minute. I am now an intermediate player... sooner than I expected. She is also very reliable. She does not forget appointments or run late or cancel frequently. The room she teaches in is clean and organized. I really think she is very appropriate for gifted kids, average kids, kids with special needs, and adult beginners both typical and with special needs.

I am a jazz trumpet player originally from Austin, TX. I graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 2017 with a Bachelors in Trumpet Performance. I love working with kids and adults who want to deepen their understanding of music or music performance and am excited about teaching with Take Lessons!

As a trumpet teacher, students could expect to be introduced to classical trumpet techniques and/or jazz, if interested. I also have experience teaching voice, piano and music theory and use this knowledge to bolster my knowledge of trumpet technique.

As a young musician, I am a part of number of groups and ensembles in addition to a horn collective. I love playing live music and have a specific interest in hip hop and R&B. In addition to trumpet, I also love music production and making beats and would love to explore that with stude
nts if interested!

Svetlana has been teaching my son, who’s 10 years old, for 3 years. She’s kind and very knowledgeable. My son loves going to his lessons and looks forward to it every week. Svetlana teaches him musical theory, scales, and classical pieces and he has thrived with her instruction. Last year, he won a silver medal at the Sonatina competition! I highly recommend Svetlana as a piano teacher.
