Singing, and sharing my knowledge of singing with others, is my life's work. My singing students have won pageants, big parts in local and regional shows, competitions and entry into the best magnet programs and universities. More importantly, they all learn to believe in themselves and are proud to sing with their own voices. We'll begin your learning journey together by discussing your specific goals. Each and every student's lessons are customized to fit these goals and preferences.

About Heather M.
More important than my conservatory education and my experience as an educator and a performer is my passion for teaching music and acting and my undying belief that anyone can learn to be a musician and an actor. I'm currently available to teach lessons in my own St. Augustine home studio and online around the globe.

I'm a cum laude graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey and a winner of its merit scholarship.
After performing with the New York and Royal Philharmonics, the New Jersey and Virginia Symphonies, the American Boy Choir and the internationally renowned opera star, Andrea Bocelli, studying opera and piano at Westminster Choir College and performance art and improvisational acting at East Carolina University in North Carolina, and appearing in shows and pageants across the east coast, I found my life'
s work in 2003 when I began teaching music.

I've successfully taught hundreds of different students since 2003, from 5-year-olds with special needs to middle-aged professional opera singers, from a professor in Saudi Arabia to a 65-year-old doctor of music, from kids of Radio Disney to students of the famed Actors Studio in New York, from busy stay-at-home parents to retirees with bucket lists, from CEOs to touring singer-songwriters.

I've created and led a workshop about singing called, "The Whole Body Singer". I've written dozens of articles about music and music education for the blog at TakeLessons.com.

My extensive knowledge of the voice has encouraged and empowered hundreds of singers and prepared many of them to win competitions, pageants and auditions, as well as roles in operas and musicals.

Having both taught myself piano and received formal training at a conservatory has prepared me to teach almost anyone how to play.
The intensive training and education that I received at Westminster Choir College in songwriting, music theory and sight reading has benefited my students at every level.

My current work as singer and keyboardist in the acoustic rock duo, Timberwood, has strengthened my knowledge of a broad range of styles and genres. I have a strong commitment to continuing my education. That's why I recently (2014) studied songwriting online with the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

In the lessons that I teach, I'm flexible, positive and encouraging. While I want my students to have fun and love music, not dread it, I expect hard work and persistence. I am caring, patient, nurturing, and compassionate. In piano lessons, I usually allow the student to choose a piece with which to warm up and then move on to technique and repertoire. In voice lessons, I usually warm up the singer and discuss technique and sight singing before focusing on song choices. Joan Frey Boytim wrote a book for voice that I like to use, and I like the Estelle Liebling exercises for the more advanced singer. Hanon exercises are a big part of my piano curriculum, and I enjoy the Bastien and Alfred books for young and old. I have used completely random songs pulled out of a piano bench and a karaoke CD for kids. I will use almost anything I can get my hands on if it means effectively teaching music.
Acting lessons consist of exercises and games that apply learned concepts, and monologue and audition coaching. Parents, siblings and spouses are always welcome to observe lessons quietly.

Eric is the best guitar teacher I've had, and I've had many over the years. He is remarkably skilled at the full range of guitar vocabulary, so no matter what I am interested in learning more, he is able to teach. As an instructor, he is very vested in the students' growth, and makes sure I am getting the help I need to get better even outside the class. He is extremely perceptive about my strengths, weaknesses, and interests, and carefully sequencing the best material according to my level, explaining why they are important, and showing me the next steps. After 6 months of taking lessons with Eric, I am very proud of the progress I've made, and even more excited about what I am able to do in the future.

About Valyncia
I believe everyone has the ability to sing … some better than others, of course, -- but regardless, I believe every voice can make a beautiful sound. I believe learning to sing requires team work: with the proper instruction and learning tools from me, the instructor, and with the dedication (practice, practice, practice) from you, the student, a well-rounded singer can emerge. If you can hear the proper note, I can help your vocal instrument play to its fullest abilities.

I began singing when I was five years old in church. I continued singing exclusively inspirational music until I was a teenager. At that time, in addition to the second soprano part I sang in a five-part harmony a Capella (without instrumental accompaniment) Gospel group, I also sang in a few bands (Rhythm and Blues, Jazz, and Rock). My undergraduate studies we
re completed at the American University, where I majored in Communications (B.A.), and minored in Music, voice being my instrument. During my undergraduate studies, I was recruited and performed as the lead female vocalist for a Rock band that a few fellow music students had formed. While in college, I was trained in classical voice, piano, music theory, musical theater performance, and vocal pedagogy (vocal training). My vocal pedagogy studies credentialed me to become a professional vocal instructor. I began teaching voice after I earned my degree, and have been teaching private voice lessons for over ten years.

Most of my present expertise in teaching voice grew from my vocal pedagogy studies, my teaching experience which has developed over time, my own personal vocal dedication, and my training and understanding of various genres of vocal performance. My present singing career is as an inspirational singer; my vocal students encompass various genres in which I have experience, including: Inspirational, Rhythm and Blues, Jazz, Rock, Classical, as well as various degrees of popular music.

*** Audition Preparation ***
I have coached many of my students to prepare for auditions: auditions to be accepted into performing arts schools, parts in musicals and plays, joining a band or vocal ensemble, as well as auditions for televised singing shows, such as "The Voice," "Sunday's Best," "American Idol" and "The X Factor."

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach students by using the tried and true techniques I have found to be successful, and allow the student to be my guide as to which direction to take with his or her vocal training. Whether the student is a novice, a professional, or somewhere in between, each student, after obtaining the basic singing knowledge and techniques, will have a vocal training schedule geared to his or her individual needs and development. Lessons are for the most part very casual in nature, and the student’s dedication (practice, practice, practice) will dictate whether or not the lessons become stricter. A few months into the vocal instruction, students will be given the opportunity to learn more about reading music and sight singing, if he or she so chooses, as well as vocal performance techniques for singing in front of an audience. Within one year, dedicated students may also have the opportunity to show off what they have learned, and perform in front of an audience at a recital with other vocal students. Please note that my preference is to work with teens age 13 through adults of any age. I believe that younger voices need more time to develop and stand to be damaged if too much stress is put on them too soon. However, exceptions for children under 13 may be made for gifted young singers.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home studio- entry room of home, baby grand piano, seating area, dry erase board, mirrors
Music Studio- one recording studio, seating area, classroom

*** Travel Equipment ***
If needed, I provide a portable piano keyboard, microphone with amplifier, paper handouts of lessons, etc. The student needs to have paper to take notes and a writing instrument.

*** Specialties ***
Most of my voice lesson experience has been with adults, and contemporary popular and inspirational music.

Comprehensive approach to music training. Music theory, literature, history, ear-training, sight-reading, and performance education all incorporated at all levels of instruction. I also pay very close attention to the physiology behind technique. Whole body awareness and kinesiology is very important to learning great technique (no matter the instrument or musical art) in order to grow musically and to perform without pain.

About Jaime
Jaime is a charismatic and versatile musician and performing artist who has performed nationally and internationally as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, and vocalist. Jaime is also a classically trained dancer with extensive experience in musical theater. She has been performing since age 4 and teaching since 15 (20+ years experience). Degrees: double flute performance and piano performance/pedagogy B.A. and masters level classes in music performance. Currently preparing for Van Cliburn Competition 2020.

Jaime is passionate about the musical arts and has won awards and competitions in all her areas of study ~ piano, flute, piccolo, voice, and dance. Such highlights include: White House Christmas Music performances (two years), 2012 Second Prize Winner of the Alexander Buono International Flute Competition in New York
City; winner of the 'Viva Vivaldi' Young Artist International Concerto Competition (Kennedy Center solo performance with the Washington (D.C.) Chamber Symphony). She has performed within six countries across Europe, at musically and historically valuable venues, such as the Westminster Abbey Cathedral in London, at the White House in Washington D.C., and many other various festivals and masterclasses throughout the United States and Europe.

PEDAGOGY PHILOSOPHY:
Jaime wants to share her classical music knowledge and love for music with anyone who is wanting and willing to learn. She provides piano, flute, & voice lessons and tutors in various music subjects: music history, literature, theory, ear-training, and performance preparation, and audition/competition preparation. Jaime believes in a holistic form of teaching. She believes in getting “Back to the Basics.” Her pedagogical approach incorporates the use and awareness of psychophysics (awareness of physiology & psychology) and the Alexander Technique and others, as well as language (especially foreign language), singing (awareness of voice & the body) for flute and voice training.

Jaime draws from the expertise and pedagogical wisdom of the wonderful teachers and world renown musicians with whom she has studied. Many thanks to: Paula Price, Joyce Catalfano, Dr. Nina Perlove, Laurel Zucker, Leon Buyse, Dr. Jane Magrath, Dr. Edward Gates, Dr. Peter Amstutz, Dr. Christine Kefferstan, Dr. Valeria Cisler, Peggy Payne, and the late Dr. James Breckenridge. Jaime continues to study and hone the art and skill of classical music and pedagogy.

I had the pleasure of recording an album of songs with a trio of local musicians, Joshua Bowlus on piano, Gary Starling on guitar and Rebecca Zappen on violin. It was a collection of tunes that I had sung through the past years on gigs and with home recordings with my husband, Tony Tamburello on piano. The album was a big hit with my friends and family and me !! I sent it to a radio jock in Montreal also and he played it on the air. Needless to say, Gina was the master mixer at the controls !! Love her !!!

Growing up I have always wanted to sing but never could find a qualified teacher.

I have been taking lessons with her for a while now and she's wonderful.

I feel like I'm progressing and finally learning how to sing properly with someone who knows their stuff.
