Amber R.

Carlisle, PA

About Amber

I began taking piano lessons at a young age and continued with them through my freshman year of college. I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and five years of experience teaching private piano lessons. My degree and experience with elementary aged children have prepared me to be able to tailor lessons to my students' individual needs, explain concepts in creative ways, and adjust the pace of lessons as needed. Playing piano is something that I really enjoy, so I love having the opportunity to give students the skills they need to enjoy it, too!

*** Lesson Details ***
I try t
o create a learning environment that's fun and laid back while still maintaining reasonable expectations for my students. I love seeing my students succeed, so I do my best to give them all the tools they need to do so! Faber & Faber's Piano Adventures books are my preference for students. I want students to have fun and enjoy what they play, so I also like to include songs from whatever category my students' are most interested in, such as popular, jazz, musical theater, etc. After 6 months of taking lessons with me, students will have a firm grasp on all basic piano concepts (such as finger numbers, note names, the staff, and time signatures) and will have the ability to sight read beginning piano pieces. Whether you want to play professionally or just learn a new skill, I want to instruct students in a way that encourages them to love music and have fun along the way!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Open floor plan- Living/Dining area. Piano. Seating for parents. Street parking available.

We just love Amber as our piano teacher! My 8 year old daughter has had lessons for a few months now with Amber. Amber is so easy going and really strives to make learning fun. My daughter actually enjoys practicing now and doesn't dread lessons, as she has in the past. She has a special gift - thanks Amber!!!

Lindsey R.

Hanover, PA

About Lindsey

Join me for piano lessons in my home on Fridays on a baby grand piano! There is seating inside and outside, and there is plenty of on-street parking. There are also four friendly cats who enjoy listening during lessons!

If you're further south, I teach in a studio at Kramer's Piano Shop in New Midway, Maryland, on Thursdays. You can see the available times in the column to the right of this profile.

What you will need:

An instrument to practice on - either an acoustic piano or a keyboard with weighted keys at home. Please do not schedule lessons unless you have an instrument.

Shee
t music - students can purchase it through me or from a store or online. We can talk about what kinds of music you like to play or want to learn to play once you sign up for lessons.

Usually for either a beginner adult or child, I recommend the Alfred piano series, along with a technique book to strengthen and limber up the fingers, and a fun piece ... something the student specifically wants to learn or be challenged with.

FAQs:

How often are lessons?
Once a week for half an hour is ideal, especially for beginners.

How often will I have to practice?
For 6 and 7 year olds, generally 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week. For everyone else, at least a half an hour a day will give you the most progress!

What do you specialize in?
My strongest abilities are in classical music, because that is what I have the most experience in, but I can also teach the fundamentals of playing pop and rock music, and good performance, accompaniment, and practice habits.

What happens if I can't come to my scheduled lesson?
Email me, text me, call me, or cancel the lesson through your TakeLessons profile. TakeLessons will notify me immediately. Your payment will then be applied to the following scheduled lesson.
If you do not notify me, then I will mark the lesson as "missed" instead of "canceled" and you will still be charged for it.
As long as you're coming to most lessons and not missing too many, a canceled lesson here or there with notice is not a problem.

I am happy to share my experience as a very satisfied piano student of Lindsey's! She is so patient and helpful while I'm learning. With her level of skill, she is teaching me more than just notes, like my form, timing and so much more. She uses a variety of music which keeps me interested and challenged. I highly recommend Lindsey as a teacher to both young, not so young, beginner or some skill as she will make all ages and levels feel at ease while they will truly be taught to play the piano! An awesome teacher!

Graham R.

Elizabethtown, PA

About Graham

My name is Graham M. Reeve. I am a graduate of Elizabethtown College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. I have experience with classical, jazz, and ensemble music. I have traveled to Africa, Brazil, and Canada via Elizabethtown College Jazz Band and Choir during my studies. My personal philosophy on music is that practice does not make perfect, but rather permanent. My teaching methods include both note reading and learning by rote. I like to immerse myself in not only music performance, but music theory and history. I enjoy working with children and adults of all ages. In my free time,
I play in community orchestra and sing in the community choir in Elizabethtown.

Riesa P.

Hummelstown, PA

About Riesa

I am a 2013 graduate of the Eastman School of Music, where I studied voice performance, and I have had a lifelong passion for music and singing. I have taught private voice and piano lessons for the past two years.

My philosophy of teaching voice is to instill healthy vocal health and voice technique habits in singers from a young age, to prevent vocal misuse or damage later in their lives, and to give young singers a joy for singing and a confidence and comfort in their voices and in their bodies.

In working with young piano students, my goal is for students to learn basic music theory
and to learn to read music. I work with my students to create healthy habits at the keyboard, while cultivating a love for the instrument.

If your child is interested in both piano and voice, I teach lessons where we split our time between the two instruments. For young singers, piano is a foundational skill which will greatly help and inform their musicianship.

Best Violin Songs to Practice by Genre: Rock, Pop, and Country
