Tyreese is a great instructor. He understands what my needs are as a beginner, As an older adult I am learning how to study all over again. Tyreese is patient and giving me the confidence to be great at playing my flute. One of my many dream goals is learning the flute. You’re never to old to learn new things!

About James
I first studied guitar from Chuck Anderson a previous student of renown teacher Dennis Sandole. After two years with Anderson I began music studies with Sandole which lasted five years. I had no traditional schooling from a university in music, but instead believe private study with the best teacher was the path for me. I continued to gig, play all genres of music while maintaining my music studies. I decided in the late 1989 that moving to New York, although a desire, would never happen. And, with the decline of jazz-fusion and lack of jazz venues in my geographic area I knew my dream of making a living from jazz music was all but over. But this did not diminish my passion for playing and composing avant garde jazz-fusion music.

In the mid-nineties I met jazz guitarist and composer Steve Giordano. Steve had a completely different a
pproach to teaching and learning guitar then any of my previous teachers. This began three years of music study and friendship with Steve. After my time with Giordano I built a 1000 sq. ft. recording studio in the basement of my home and opened Genesis Recording Studio in 2001.

The early 2000’s put me on an entirely new learning curve; I study recording, mixing, and mastering. By 2010 with the advances in digital recording technology musicians / bands began making demo recordings from small computer based home studios. Many small pro-recording studios closed during this time including my own.

In summer of 2010 I was looking over Pat Metheny’s website and noticed he named the top four guitarists in NYC, in his opinion. Subsequent to reviewing each guitarist’s website and music I found Rez Abbasi’s playing and music too interesting and enticing to forget. I emailed Rez about studying jazz composition with him and now in 2018 I’m still going up to NYC few times a year to study composition and guitar.

Being exposed to musicians at the level of Rez Abbasi, Sandole, and Giordano continues to nourish my musical life. I now know what it takes to master the guitar and be successful. It is this knowledge and love of creating music which has become my life's journey.

About Catherine
With over 10 years of experience teaching, and over 20 years of experience playing, I guide students of many ages to play confidently while enjoying the process of creative music making. Lessons are held in a dynamic atmosphere, focusing on building the fundamental technique of the flute and/or the piccolo while also allowing the student to reach his or her full potential as a strong musician. A beautiful sound, fluid scales, interpretation, artistry, and an overall awareness of other musicians are important aspects in the journey to becoming an artist! My students have consistently performed regularly, competed, and received honors in competitions.

I am a Houston native and have performed in orchestras throughout the country including the Brevard Music Center, the Hot Springs Music Festival, the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, the So
uth Dakota Symphony, the Southeast Symphony, the Tanglewood Music Center and the Texas Music Festival. I have lots of orchestral experience and have played under notable conductors including Charles Dutoit, Keith Lockhart, Andris Nelsons, Carl St. Clair, and MIchael Tilson Thomas. Currently, I am a Finalist and substitute for the New World Symphony in Miami, Florida.

I hadn’t had lessons since college and was pretty rusty. I wanted to get back into playing but didn’t know where to start. Catherine was very accommodating and helped motivate me and get me back on track. She is so knowledgeable and was able to start slow with me, but really got into more advanced techniques when I was ready. My schedule is constantly changing, but she was able to be flexible and meet with me when it was good for me. I highly recommend her for any level of student!

I was so excited to start taking lessons with Kevin considering his experience playing arenas and traveling the world with artists. I started out with no experience and he was so encouraging and kind! He really takes the time to make YOU a better musician and performer. I recommend taking lessons with Kevin over other instructors for many reasons, one being he brings a teaching mechanism to the table no one else will. There is no one better! 10/10 would recommend!!
