Victoria F.

La Vergne, TN

About Victoria

I love teaching! How incredible it is to aid people in the joy of music, build their confidence, and help them sing with ease and comfort! I am a classical vocal performance graduate from Belmont University. I have sung all over the world, as a soloist with a missions organization The New America Singers. We sang in Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, South Korea, Russia and Germany, with our largest audience being over 6,000 people. I have performed several solo concerts in Germany, directed Children's Musicals, and have been teaching private voice at my home studio, the YMCA in
Brentwood, as well as Rock Springs Middle school. Teaching voice is something that I am passionate about. I had some vocal health issues when I was younger, but thankfully I had an incredible teacher who not only helped me fix them but also taught me how to help others. I do not teach children under the age of 12 because their voices are not developed enough, and so it can cause them more harm as they get older. Many of my vocal issues that I had to work though was because I started to young, and I do not want your kids to have to go through that. I have been teaching the past few years, and have enjoyed every minute of it. I am excited to be able to help students who wish to improve their vocal abilities. Whether it is for the pursuit of a singing career, correction of vocal issues, if you have always wanted to sing on key, or you just want to sound better, I can help you accomplish your goals.

*** Lesson Details ***
Healthy singing is key.
- Proper breath support is the first key to singing well.
-We do an assortment of vocal exercises picked for the individual voice. These exercises help correct various vocal issues, strengthen quality of tone, widen your vocal range, and help warm up the voice as to not hurt anything when singing a song.
-I also have a Zoom H4 voice recorder to make high quality recordings of your voice, so you can learn from hearing yourself as well as having the exercises recorded for listening at home.
-I also teach sight singing to those who would like to learn.
-I will help you learn new songs, teach musical techniques, as well as stage presence.

The lessons are for you, if you want to work on something specific that is what we will do. I always have a plan for want to work on but I am flexible. The more work you do at home, the more work we can accomplish in our lesson. Most of all you need to have fun singing!

*** Studio Equipment ***
-Piano
-Music Stand
-CD Player
-Zoom H4 voice recorder
-Sound Level Meter

I have SD cards available to purchase, as well as SD card readers. If you would like to buy it somewhere else the SD card must be a 2GB card, as my recorder does not take anything higher.

*** Specialties ***
I originally pursued opera, so I enjoy classical voice technique. It has taught me how to use one's own body to amplify the voice. I enjoy working with people with vocal issues, such as vibrato problems, tension etc. I also love the theatrical side that Broadway brings, as well as opera. There are so many elements that makes a singer good.

Excellent Teaching

I feel like Ms. Victoria is a great teacher. In just seven months she has transformed me into a completely different singer. My range is now greater than ever and my roles in musicals have increased significantly. Her skills have given me newfound courage and I would highly recommended her to anyone interested in vocal lessons.

Dani E.

Nashville, TN

About Dani

Hi! I'm a singer/songwriter who recently relocated to Nashville from Brooklyn, NY. I just got off the road from singing backing vocals for Miley Cyrus on the Bangerz World Tour and am looking forward to picking up with my students again and hopefully working with some new ones! I've been teaching since 2006 in addition to writing and performing my original music as well as singing backing vocals for various artists such as Amos Lee, Sheryl Crow, The Roots, and more.

*** Lesson Details ***
I hold a B.F.A. in Vocal Performance from The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music in NYC
and teach beginning, hobbyist singers all the way through to working, professional singers. The most important thing I like to work on with voice students, is helping you to find your own distinct voice and how to use it to the best of it's abilities. That involves developing your technique, vocal health, and an overall familiarity with how your voice functions.

When it comes to teaching piano, I work with beginner students and was mainly teaching children ages 5 and up back in NYC. That's not to say if you're an adult we couldn't work together! I like to work from a workbook of some kind-my students and I were using the 'Bastien Series' and 'Dozen A Day' in addition to other repertoire books.

In addition to playing, some of my students liked to compose original music which I highly encourage and help foster if that's something you desire to do.

I'd love to talk with you more about what you, or your child is looking to achieve through taking piano or voice lessons!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Nord Keyboard, Roland amp, microphone & mic stand

*** Travel Equipment ***
All of my studio equipment is portable.

*** Specialties ***
Voice, Songwriting
My degree is in jazz but I also have classical training and musical theatre experience

"Awesome" Teacher

Dani taught my 10-year-old daughter piano for 2 years. She supremely professional, thorough, and most importantly fun. My daughter couldn't wait for her weekly lessons. As she says, Dani is "awesome." Dani was able to deftly make the lessons educational but also lively. My daughter still loves to play, practices without being asked, and reads music well. I credit that to Dani's focus, patience and enthusiasm. She always showed up smiling, and to my daughter's delight also had stickers for her lesson book after each class. I cannot recommend her enough, and am sad that we don't live in the same city so my daughter can continue her lessons with her. A wonderful teacher.

Dani was our piano teacher in nyc - we miss her so much, Nashville is lucky to have her! We have 2 kids, 8 & 9 years old, and they enjoyed having lessons with Dani very much. Always reliable & professional, Dani has a special way with children. She makes them & their music feel important and she never talks down to them. She also knows how to motivate, encourage & celebrate them. We highly recommend Dani as a piano teacher.

Rafe H.

Murfreesboro, TN

About Rafe

Hello! My name is Rafe (rhymes with safe) and I'm a drummer and drum teacher in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

My wife, two teenagers and two dogs and I have lived in Murfreesboro since 2006. Prior to that I lived in Nashville after moving here from Atlanta in 2001.

I come from a long line of singer/songwriters and working musicians. I've been playing drums and percussion since elementary school. My first real drum hero was Peter Criss of KISS!

During and after high school I developed the reading and coordination skills to move from marching and orchestral percussion into drum set playin
g. Along the way I've had the good fortune of knowing and being mentored by some very worthy and accomplished teachers, most notably Jack Dukes of Atlanta, GA who was an early graduate of Musician's Institute and himself a protege of the great Joe Porcaro.

I've performed live and recorded in several mainstream genres including Southern gospel, rock, pop and folk, mainly on the regional level with artists like Mark Blackburn, Neal Cooper, and Frank French. For most of the 1990s in Atlanta I belonged to at least two bands and had different setups and approaches for each. My bands and artists played local gigs from coffeehouses and clubs to showcases and festivals My favorite way to sum up my performing career is "I haven't played with anyone famous, but I've played with people who have played with someone famous!"

Through my involvement with various churches and youth ministries I was given the opportunity to teach private drum set lessons and was surprised to find that I actually enjoyed it! Parents of middle- and high-school aged students would approach me and ask for lessons and in most cases guidance on what equipment to purchase. I worked in drum retail for quite some time in Atlanta and was able to help several students with selecting and purchasing their first drum equipment.

When I teach a private student, especially a beginner, I talk with the student and the parents alike to determine the student's interests and motivation for playing the drums. I have a very student-centered approach and focus on the fundamentals of drum set playing that are applicable in all musical situations --- grip, posture, timekeeping, dynamics, the components of the drum set, and the importance establishing relationships and reputations with other musicians in the student's area.

For an intermediate student the approach must adjust to the student's existing skill level and determine where the student wants to go stylistically and what s/he wants to get out of lessons.

At all times, a fun and relaxed approach is what my teachers passed on to me and is my preferred way of guiding a student. Music is life and drumming is art but ultimately......it has to be fun and entertaining for the student to want to continue with it.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach in my own home studio in the Blackman area of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I have a large room with two drum sets and an iMac home studio setup.

For beginning students I will generally write lesson material myself as opposed to selecting a book or method, at least to begin with. We'll start with grip, posture, the component parts of the drum set itself, basic coordination and 1/4 note grooves.

For students who are already playing, we'll start with their present level of skill and dexterity and determine his/her musical goals. I believe it's important for students to listen to and learn musical languages *outside* of their favorite listening preferences to open their ears to the wider musical universe and hopefully create more opportunities for them in the future.

My favorite books and methods are Gary Chaffee's 'Patterns' series, Gary Chester's 'The New Breed'. I am also exploring a newly printed curriculum focused on the Nashville Number System.

I will record audio of the student's lesson and provide an Mp3 file so that he/she can listen to it as they practice and maintain focus.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Recording and practice room, 3 acoustic drums sets, 1 electronic drum sets, pc with recording tools, cymbals. Long driveway or street parking. Parents of young children are asked to stay in seating area in full view of the teaching studio during lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Gary Chaffee Patterns series; beginner to intermediate level drum set instruction; rock/pop/country; ambidexterity; drumset dynamics; independence.
