Victoria V.

Minneapolis, MN

About Victoria

I am an enthusiastic teacher who loves to help students explore and enjoy the process of singing. Singing and music can boost your confidence and can be an activity that is both challenging and enjoyable. Singing is also personal and I believe it is important to see lessons as a collaboration between teacher and student. I feel i have an affinity for teaching students of all ages who are completely new to singing and want to learn the basics.

I am also an active performer with a focus in opera and musical theater. I currently singing with Minnesota Opera and have performed such roles as Suz
uki in Madame Butterfly, Alisa in Lucia, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro and the title role in Carmen. I believe that a great teacher has experience they can share with students. I understand the challenges of singing because I face them professionally everyday. I find this helps to be sympathetic to a student and their needs. Due to my professional experience, I understand how much students can grow with patience and guidance.

I received a Bachelor's degree from the State University of New York College at Fredonia and my Masters from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music. I received strong training in vocal pedagogy, diction/language, and overall musicianship. These are lessons I love to share.

I have taught students at one of the top music camps in the country and have had private students for about six years. I taught everything from rock music to opera and I believe that all singing technique comes from the same principles.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are professional and goal oriented, yet fun and relaxed. At the beginning of every lesson I try to assess where you are that day and work from there. The tasks and exercises we perform in each lesson are all leading to your bigger goals. You will leave every lesson with assignments for the following week to help you progress. For younger students, I also try to take some time to focus on musicianship as this can be very helpful in the initial stages of learning any instrument. After a few months of lessons, you will have a clearer understanding of how your body works in singing, specifically breath and posture. We will focus on creating a relaxed, even sound that appears effortless to others.

TONE OF MY VOICE IMPROVED

Victoria is an excellent voice teacher. She taught me how to "think low" when I sing in the higher range. She helped me to concentrate on wordenunciation. She taught me how to breathe differently, when I sing. I highly recommend her.

Michele M.

Minneapolis, MN

About Michele Denise

As a professional teaching artist and vocal coach, I have been helping students of all ages and abilities find their voice for over 20 years. My goal is simple: to give you singing lessons that will change your life forever. You can build unshakable confidence and have fun while learning techniques professional singers take onto the stage and into the studio. And, you can have a great time doing it!

About my vocal lessons/coaching:
Most students come into lessons with the same question: "Am I any good? Is there hope for me?" Well, here's the thing... The vast majority of professional
vocalists never went to school for singing! Most professional vocalists had family and friends that told them they were talented and that they should pursue singing. Most professional vocalists started out copying the sound of other recording artists, struggling for years to find their own unique voice.

The KEY difference between professional vocalists and average singers is (9 times out of 10) the presence of an influential teacher/mentor!

The right teacher/mentor pushes you to grow continuously; beyond what you think is possible. The right teacher/mentor has wisdom and information to share from inside the music industry. The right teacher/mentor genuinely cares about you as a person.

I teach so that I can be that life-changing mentor for my students, giving them that missing link for success.

About me:
I grew up in NYC and "cut my teeth" across a variety of genres: rock, jazz, R&B, gospel and choral/classical. You name it; I've sung it. In addition to being a vocal coach, I travel the nation as a musician/performing artist, professional speaker and author. Please take a moment to watch the video clip below.

Unlike most teachers that take on any/all students, I limit my roster to 15 students at any given time. During our first few lessons, I commit to offering you honest and professional feedback about your strengths and weaknesses. I want to help YOU find YOUR own voice. I want to take a look at YOUR goals, YOUR dreams, and figure out what makes you tick.

During lessons, I draw on my dual B.A. degree in vocal performance & music business as well as industry experience. I offer insights on what works and what doesn't as a vocalist, whether you are looking to pursue singing vocationally or just as a hobby.

I can help you:
- Stop feeling nervous
- Develop impeccable technique
- Learn the “ins and outs” of being in the music business
- Assemble a press kit, record a demo and start to get gigs
- Much more!

I would love the opportunity to meet you and hear where you want your singing to take you. Please, get in touch!

Other Notes:

Studio Equipment:
I teach out of my residence-based studio in downtown Minneapolis. It's centrally located with free parking and easy access to skyways and public transportation. Do you work downtown? Consider taking lessons over your lunch break!

I have everything we need for lessons in my studio: instruments, laptop, mics, etc... I will provide you with all audio files and any written materials for our lessons.

I couldn't of picked a better voice instructor!

I've always been a confident songwriter but when it came to singing I struggled; especially with pitch. Thats when I started my lessons with Mark and right away knew he was the right instructor. Instead of making me follow some completely pre-scripted lesson plan, Mark helped me correct my pitch and overall singing while practicing songs I had written myself.

I've been working with him for almost two years now and I've noticed significant improvements across the board and have gained so much more confidence in my singing abilities. Enough that I actually just finished recording a 13-track album of songs all written and sung by me. I can't thank Mark enough for helping me follow my dreams and for continuing to help me grow as a singer.

You are doing a great job with Robbie. He is still having a difficult time remembering the chords and he refuses to practice at home because of this. If you could give him one song to remember to practice at home that may help. He would like to practice at home but he gets so frustrated because of his memory with this. Robbie also enjoys you.

Josephine is just the violin teacher I was looking for!

Every lesson includes scales and etudes along with a couple of songs to work on. Her teaching is attentive to detail and well-rounded (spot-on technique, music reading, easily-digestible theory, etc.), while still really fostering enjoyment in playing and slow but steady growth. Whether you’re looking for classical violin, fiddling, or bluegrass, Josie will help you learn whatever you want to learn!

I definitely recommend a longer class time if you can do it - a few extra run-throughs of each song and scale make a big difference in your muscle memory and ability to practice efficiently on your own.

Of the few violin teachers I've had in my sporadic years of playing violin, Josie has inspired me to play the most, and I know I will continue taking lessons with her for as long as I can. Highly recommended!

Josephine teaches violin to my 8 year old son Kanishk, continuing for over 7 months. She is great with my son and very patient with him. She is very professional and guides my son to do his best. My son is doing great and we have increased the session from 1 to twice weekly.

She has a very positive attitude towards my son and always encourages him with good feedback.

Aaron T.

Saint Paul, MN

About Aaron

I am extremely passionate about music, and even more so passionate about helping others. To combine the two through providing musical instruction is something I have always enjoyed doing.

I have been playing guitar and drums for over a decade and teaching for about half of that time. I have a Bachelor of Music in Contemporary, Urban, and Pop Music with guitar as my primary instrument and drums as my secondary. I obtained my degree from Columbia College Chicago. While in school, I also spent much of my time studying songwriting and music production. I have played and toured with many differe
nt bands with music from a variety of styles and genres, and have spent vast amounts of time in the studio recording and producing myself and various other artists.

In terms of teaching lessons, I realize that all students have individual ways of learning and have their own goals in mind in relation to their musical ability. I desire to provide lessons that allow students to reach those goals in the most enjoyable and effective way possible.
