It’s a wonderful teacher!!! So experienced and creative. I don’t mind to spend 1 hour driving one way. Will not find someone like that near my area.
My 7 years old can’t wait to come to the class every time. We love Varden Music 🎶

He has the best positive energy in the world! I always leave wanting to sing more and more!
I've been teaching Singing for three years and have 13 years of professional singing experience. The curriculum I use is based on the wealth of music in my personal music library that is available for students to use. Students are also welcome to bring in their own sheet music. My teaching philosophy is content-based. I like to demonstrate the songs for students, and then let them fly with their own ideas.
Corinne is a friendly, caring, instructor and provides a stress-free learning environment. All styles, levels and ages are welcome. She teaches pop, musical theatre, classical, and jazz.
Corinne holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Vocal Studies from Michigan State University and enjoys teaching children and adults how to sing. All levels, styles, and ages are welcome. :)
Corinne was a vocal director for Rock and Ridicule, a rock and roll musical performed at the Acme Comedy Theatre in Hollywood. She also was the music director for Act I Children's Theatre in Sherman Oaks. Currently, Corinne is music directing an after school musical theatre class at Wilbur Elementary School in Tarzana.
*** Lesson Details *** Lessons with me are fairly laid-back. I use the Alfred's book series for piano students. For voice students, I tend to st
ick to genres the students are interested in learning and choose songs based on the student's abilities and levels and work up from there.
*** Studio Equipment *** Piano, music stands, music
*** Travel Equipment *** None. I expect piano students to have a keyboard or piano at home. Voice students will not need any special equipment.
*** Specialties *** I hold a degree in Jazz Vocal Studies and I also specialize in musical theatre.
Corinne is a wonderful teacher! She is patient and has such a positive energy. I always leave my lesson feeling better than when I came in. She's very knowledgeable and wants the best for all her students. She can teach any age! I'm a 25 year old beginner and thought it would be difficult to learn and keep up with playing the piano, but Corinne supports and inspires me. I can't recommend Corinne enough.

I have been wanting to play an instrument for such a long time, but never had the motivation to try it, until recently. Wanting to play Piano was a spur of the moment decision for me. I googled piano teachers in my area and Corinne was one of the first people to pop up. After reading all her rave reviews, I decided to give it a go. I was so nervous for my first lesson, but she made me feel comfortable and at ease the minute I walked through the door. She is educated and passionate about music. Also, she is extremely patient. I have been going to her for Piano Lessons now once a week for almost 6 months and I couldn't be happier with my decision. I absolutely, without a doubt, recommend Corinne. She's amazing!

We love Corinne!! My daughter started taking piano with Corinne when she was 5 and she absolutely loves her! Corinne is so patient and kind with the kids and goes at exactly the right pace for each child. My daughter has learned so much and is reading music as she plays - amazing!! Highly recommend Corinne, she's the best!
It is my experience that no matter what kind of music you end up playing a solid classical piano background is invaluable. I was privately trained in classical piano from the ages 5 - 17 in Los Angeles, California. My teachers were Mary Brady, Mae Gilbert Reese and Jeane Weiss. I graduated from Harvard High School and then graduated from UCLA with BA in art. I am a Los Angeles based artist and composer. Recently I was nominated Best Music Director of the year by the L.A. Weekly for my work on 'Head the Musical' at the Met Theater Los Angeles in 2010. I am currently mounting an opera I wrote at the Met Theater. I have been teaching private piano lessons to students ages 8 to adult for the last six years.
My experience as a musical director has honed my skills as a good communicator and teacher. I know how to get people trained an
d motivated to perform on stage with confidence no matter what their skill level.
*** Lesson Details *** My lessons focus on reading, technique and basic music theory. I always start my lessons with scales and exercises. This develops good technique and primes the student for music theory. The rest of the lesson is focused on reading and performance. I expose students to different classical composers like Bach, Mozart and Beethoven. Once they have mastered a few pieces, students are then encouraged to study the composers they enjoy the most. It is important for students to enjoy the music that they are learning as I expect them to practice everyday.
I only had the pleasure of taking piano lessons with Robert for two months since I got into Harvard and had to move to the East Coast, but I can confidently attest that he is a phenomenal teacher. To begin with, Robert brings to the table not only his classical training but also an open, creative, out-of-the-box approach. He is extremely knowledgeable and seasons lessons with fantastic facts about composers and pieces which makes everything a lot more interesting and memorable. lessons are versatile and designed to develop several key skills simultaneously. I never really played the piano before but after only two months with Robert I could read notes, develop my technique and actually play two beautiful pieces! If you are looking for a well-rounded, brilliant, cool teacher - search no more.
Of all my instruments, I enjoy the act of and teaching singing the most. It brings tremendous joy to you and your audience and is fun to learn at whatever level. I like to demystify singing as some people seem to have spent a lot of time over-complicating it. That's not to say there isn't important technique to learn and practice but only when it's coupled with real vocal freedom that all the great singers have used to their advantage. I want my students to 'underthink' breath control so they can Let their bodies go on autopilot so they can focus on the performance instead of the technique alone, whatever their level. I have been told I have tremendous energy as a singer and I'd like to be able to share with you how I achieve that so that you can do the same!
British born and Educated at London's prestigious Trinity College of Music and The Royal Academy of Music, my professional musical career has spanned over two decades to date. I have performed with world renowned acts such as Sia, Dave Stewart and Horace Andy, and have been a featured recording artist on many of the worlds most famous film scores while myself having authored or co-authored over 30 movie scores. A Suzuki violin student since the age of 3, I added piano, guitar, singing and composition during my teenage years. The Suzuki method encourages advanced aural development from very early on and this has turned out to be my strongest suit. With my ear, I have impressed some of the most notable orchestrators, composers, directors and producers in London, Hollywood and the world over. In fact, it was these on the spot aural magic tr
icks that allowed me to impress the Hollywood composer that first invited me to Los Angeles to work on my first blockbuster. That opportunity led to many years of success in the industry and some notoriety. I have always had a passion for teaching, sharing my knowledge with others and watching other people take immense pleasure in their own achievements. I have been told time and time again that I have a very special gift for teaching and I would very much like to share it with you, whether you want to learn an instrument, musicianship, ear training, composition, hone your vocal or mic skills or learn how to arrange an orchestral piece in just a few hours! I look forward to talking to you about your specific needs and goals and having the opportunity to help you realize them in a fun friendly and authentic atmosphere. Andrew
I've taught students who have never taken a voice lesson before and those who have been singing and studying for 10+ years.
I especially love teaching those who are new to singing because there are issues in confidence and finding the unique qualities for their voice while still building healthy vocal technique. If this is an issue for an advanced singer, I'd love to help out.
Bachelor's in musical theater performance from Columbia College Chicago. Audition prep (acting/singing) and vocal technique for clients since 2007.
Master's in music therapy from NYU 2019. MT-BC, certified music therapist.
Voice lessons: My critique during your lesson is always honest, so you know when I give you a compliment it is well deserved. I especially love working with non-singers and helping them find their voice. I always start with an assessment to see where your work is currently at and where we can go from there. I keep notes during your lesson, send you home with your homework for the week, and I use those notes to think of personalized ways to improve your technique before your next lesson.
If honesty and results are what you're looking for in a teacher, I promise to be that teacher for you.
Music therapy: I
come from an approach that is holistic and growth-centered. I work with you to set attainable goals while using active music-making and other music therapy techniques to process issues that are hard to talk about, find coping skills, and enhance daily life.
*** Lesson Details *** Whether you're studying vocal technique or prepping for an audition with me, each lesson starts with an assessment. Then, we start with where you are at that moment and push your technique to the next level. Afterwards, I will send you an email with notes from the lesson and your homework.
My goal is cultivate your technique and discipline to take you to the next level of your performance.
*** Studio Equipment *** -Digital piano -Large mirror (to see your technique) -Various small percussive instruments -Harmonic stringed instruments
*Please note, lessons and music therapy sessions are held in my office in my home. I have cats and small dogs that will *not* interrupt sessions, however the dogs may bark for a few minutes from another room when you first come in. Also, I have air purifiers throughout the house but those with severe allergies should keep this in mind.
*** Specialties *** Beginner voice for non-singers, new singers, or singers that have been out of the game for a while.
Adaptive piano lessons for children and teens on the autism spectrum.
Music therapy for those diagnosed with mental health issues or those who need a creative, therapeutic environment to deal with life issues.
Audition prep for both film/stage acting and singing auditions. (Great results!)
Specializing in MUSICAL and TECHNICAL aspects of singing only. I DO NOT TEACH VOCAL PRODUCTION OR NORMAL SINGING but a lot of singing teachers send me their students for help with pitch control, if they sing flat and also how to sing harmony and self-accompanying techniques, sight singing and performance anxiety.
I enjoy working with complete beginners as well as seasoned professionals. I teach classical and popular styles. I specialize in teaching learning how to learn, sight-reading, technique, improvisation, chord-reading, songwriting. One of my specialties is to help you break through your most stubborn blocks. These might be the strangest things that you think no one would ever understand -- fear of playing in public, feeling like your left hand is uncoordinated, practice procrastination, pain when playing, pain when reading notation, memory issues, musical dyslexia... ANYTHING. I can help you and I will never make you feel embarrassed.
*** All Levels, All Styles *** -Classical -Pop -Country -Gospel -Blues -R&B -Rock -Reggae -Hip Hop -Worship -Church -Hymns -Techno -50s -Jazz -New Age -Folk -Broadway -Pop Ballad -etc.
*** In Studio or Online *** Of course it is more enjoyable if you can have lessons in person. But with modern technology, live online lessons come in a close second. I've been teaching for 40 years and I've been doing online lessons for about 12 years. I'm located in West Hills, which is a suburb of Los Angeles. If you are not local, using Skype with a webcam works out surprisingly well. I have students in Sydney, London, Hong Kong and many cities throughout the US.
*** Use a Piano or a Keyboard for Practicing *** I am not fussy if you use a keyboard but it needs to be a "weighted action" keyboard, so that it feels similar to a real piano. Ideally, you should also have a pedal and a stand if you are using an electronic keyboard.
*** Unconventional Approach *** Each student is taught with a customized approach. You get to tell me what areas you want to focus on. Sometimes there may be a block or something that is a weakness that you need to bolster. Sometimes it is a narrow niche within music that you want to give your attention to. One way that I'm unconventional is that I actually have found that it is NOT better if you practice every day. I recommend that you build in about three days of rest per week. Just like people who work out at the gym learn that the off days are when the muscles regenerate, the same is true for your brain. This allows your subconscious mind to do its job and your progress will actually be faster, not slower. Another example of my unique approach is how I treat beginners. Even though you may not yet read music very well or at all, it doesn't mean that you can't start working concurrently on a more advanced piece. This is because READING notation is a comparatively slow process, but why should we restrict your ability to play something that you love to your rate of reading music? Usually, our FINGER TECHNIQUE develops much faster than our READING so I'm happy to guide you on one or two more difficult pieces and help spoon-feed it to you, bit by bit, "by rote."
*** Areas of Focus *** -Finger Technique. How to play fast with ultimate control. -Sight-Reading How to Read Music at Sight -Rhythm Training -Music Theory -Interpretation -Injury-Retraining -Relaxation, Removing Unnecessary Tension -Pain-Reduction -Practice-Optimization - How to learn more in less time. -How to memorize music. -Biomechanical Efficiency - Maximum power with minimum effort. -Time-Management -Improvisation and creativity development techniques -Composition & Songwriting. -How to create melodies for your poems and lyrics. -How to put chords on your melodies. -How to create “song sheets,” lead sheets and how to write music down on paper. -How to notate your song so others can play it, without knowing how to read music! -Chord-Reading and How to Play Lead Sheets & Fake Book -Musical Styles and Piano Arrangements (Pop, Country, Gospel, Blues, R&B, Rock, Reggae, Hip Hop, Worship, Church, Hymns, Techno, 50s, Jazz, New Age, Folk, Broadway, Pop Ballade, etc.) -Ear-Training (How to Play by Ear, Playing by Ear) -Singers’ Tools -Pitch Control Training -Self-Accompanying -How to Sing Harmony -Sight-Singing (How to Hear the Notes in Your Mind) -Self-Accompanying techniques in every style - Learn how to accompany yourself or learn how to accompany singers. (see “Musical Styles” above.) -Audition Preparation - I will record the melody of the song for you so you can learn it. -How to put melody to lyrics -College Preparation -Performance Anxiety, Stage Fright, Fear -Releasing Emotional Obstacles to Playing Emotional Blocks, Healing Piano Trauma and Previous Performance Disasters, Piano Therapy -Motiviation Issues - Solving your procrastination and avoidance of your musical growth issues. -How to Look Like You’ve Played Piano for Years (for Actors, Singers and Celebrities Who Have A Role Deadline and Need a Crash Course.)
*** Celebrity Piano Teacher *** Over the years, I've taught many pro musicians and celebrities. (Takelessons prohibits me from mentioning their names here.)
*** Howard's Teachers Go Back To Beethoven *** I feel grateful that my own training included top teachers of both the “German School” and “Russian School” of piano technique. Generally, the German School teaches how to play with close-to-the-key hand placement preparation and fingering efficiency, and is known for great speed and accuracy. The Russian School teaches how to play with gravity and relaxation and is known for beautiful tone production. Each approach has its strengths and weaknesses. In my own playing and teaching, I have incorporated the good aspects of each and have discarded the bad. The result is a blueprint for biomechanical efficiency and beautiful sound, making it the best of both worlds. Please see the photo of the "piano lineage chart."
Howard is very caring and detailed oriented. He really knows how to inspire and encourage children to learn piano. He makes it challenging and fun!
April 12, 2016
Howard's approach is patient while at the same time he actually leads my son forward - not just listening to what he practiced that week. Howard does not make the weekly lesson a "test" but rather a session to work together and my son enjoys the lessons instead of worrying if he prepared enough.
We moved from Los Angeles so we chose to transition from lessons in Howard's house to weekly lessons online - it continues to work beautifully.
Howard can accommodate any style of student - I know because I took lessons from Howard myself until my work built up too much to continue.
My goal is to work with the individual singer in acquiring a solid, healthy vocal technique which results in healthy singing. Students will learn to navigate their voice and work around problem areas. Students will expand range and learn to manipulate the voice to fit the musical style required of the piece. Each private voice lesson will consist of focused work catered toward the students’ needs. The technique will then be applied to the repertoire chosen by the teacher and student.
I have been teaching private lessons since 2006 and have loved helping my students expand their vocal range, increase their repertoire, gain solid technique, and just enjoy singing. Each lesson will begin with a vocal warm-up focusing on breath, posture, and technique. We will then work on your music together incorporating what we learned in our warm ups. We will focus on everything from phrasing, to marking breaths, to understanding lyrics, utilizing dynamics, and staying true to the style of the music. Our lessons will be engaging, informative, and fun.
I want you to find your unique voice and help it to grow. I want to know what type of music you like and am happy to help provide you with new material ideas. My Broadway repertoire knowledge is expansive and I love finding songs that fit your personality and type. My background i
s primarily in musical theatre/Broadway which embraces all styles of music including classical, jazz, pop, rock, and country. I love teaching. I love learning new music and helping my students learn new music. I love watching my students make progress.
Below you will find a bit more about my education and performance background:
I have always had a passion for musical theatre and vocal performance. I began performing at the age of 5 and started studying voice at the age of 12. I attended the University of Southern California, Thornton School of Music, where I received a B.M. in Vocal Performance.
Upon completing my Bachelor’s degree, I received an M.M. in Musical Theatre from the Boston Conservatory. While in Boston, I had the unique opportunity to perform as a concert soloist with the Boston Pops conducted by Keith Lockhart on the same night that I sang the national anthem at Fenway Park.
Wanting to combine my joy for traveling with my love for performance, I studied acting at the British American Drama Academy in Oxford, England, musical theatre at NYU’s CAP 21, and opera at OperaWorks in California. I have performed in New York at Birdland and the Laurie Beechman Theatre, in California at Rockwell Table & Stage, and in New Hampshire with the Great Waters Music Festival and New Hampshire Dance Institute.
I traveled the world in the International Tour of CATS as Jennyanydots and the understudy for Grizabella. I have also performed in many regional theatres throughout the country. Some of my favorite credits include: The Marvelous Wonderettes, Light in the Piazza, Guys and Dolls, The Golden Apple, and The Full Monty.
Currently, I am on the faculty at AMDA College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Hollywood, CA where I teach Individual Voice lessons to college students.
Jen is fabulous with kids! She really helps my daughter get comfortable with her roles
May 28, 2018
Jennifer is a great teacher! So helpful and supportive, she has been a big part of my singing journey and I always have great lessons with her. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to progress there singing technique.
January 21, 2018
Jennifer is one of the best voice teachers I have ever had. She really takes time to make sure I understand everything she’s trying to show me and stays at that pace until I get it. She pushes me to keep working and find the right tricks that will help me remember each lesson. I feel so grateful to be one of her students and have felt the most confident in my voice when I got the chance to train with her. Thank you so much Jennifer. You all will not regret signing up with her because she is an absolute genius and one of the most fun and welcoming people to be around.
Throughout my experience teaching, I have found the most important thing to be finding peace and having fun while singing. In addition, we will work on technique/breathing, and most importantly - finding your voice.
I am a vocalist and songwriter based in Los Angeles, and have experience teaching voice as well as performing and recording. In lessons (based on your current skill level and experience) we will work on technique - specifically breathing, singing with the least amount of pain and tension, and working on timbre and tone. Lessons will be geared by you- we will work on what you are interested in, and I will give the tools to do so in our lesson, and by yourself when you practice.
"James is a fabulous instructor with a perfect demeanor for teaching; he is very positive and always looks for opportunities to improve the performance of
his student. My daughter has significantly improved and gained confidence. She is looking forward to continued instruction in the New Year. Overall outstanding experience!"
"George is a great vocals teacher, and focused on proper posture and breathing right at the start to create optimal form and get the most out of my 16 year
old daughter's voice. No silly scales--just practical and usable lessons. He really focuses on what my daughter wants to accomplish. Fantastic teacher!"
"Eric is an excellent voice coach. He can hear the tiniest fluctuations in your voice and knows exactly what is going on and will help you achieve correct
placement to produce the sound you want. Working with him has made singing way less stressful for me and he is really encouraging. I’ve only had a handful of lessons and I’m already hearing major improvements in my range and singing all my favorite songs has become easier as well. He really is a godsend."
"It was great cover a lot . Great experience amazing teacher"
"I was an abject beginner, over 65, who couldn't sing Happy Birthday in tune before I worked with Laura. I looked forward to my lessons. She has a method
that works and will move you up quickly and surely from whatever level you start with. She is very personable and professional to deal with."
"Moa is an amazing teacher! She’s patient and very helpful and I’d definitely recommend her to anyone looking for singing lessons."
"An Exceptional Instructor!!!
Erin is a very knowledgeable instructor in both voice and piano. I have been taking lessons from her in my home for about 3
months now and I have made HUGE strides in my ability to sing on key (which was close to zero before I started lessons with her) and my ability to read music and play the piano which I gave up on when I was 8 years old.
Erin is professional, patient, understanding and very reliable and I would highly recommend her. Her valuable instruction has opened a whole new world for me!"
"Shannon is a very kind, nice, polite, patient and persistent in finding the right teaching methods for me. I highly recommend her to anyone who plans to t
ake a singing lesson."
"Laura is the most incredible teacher that we could have ever wished for. My daughter took voice lessons from Laura from age 7 to age 13. She also took p
iano lessons for approximately three of the 6 years. Laura's coaching technique created growth in my daughter's skills and confidence that impressed everyone who knew her. Laura has a unique gift of connecting with her students, creating a comfortable environment and helping them build on their talent to accomplish their goals. She is the greatest!"
While not everyone is gifted with a beautiful voice that can hit the high notes and maintain perfect pitch, everyone is capable of refining their singing voice. Here are some suggestions on how to get a better singing voice:
Get a Little Vain
In a way, singers have to be vain - starting with staring at yourself in a mirror! Believe it or not, a mirror can help you improve your tone. Try singing in front of a mirror, and you'll be able to closely inspect and analyze your movements and techniq …
