Private Flute Teacher

I am in the process of getting my music education degree and then my teaching credential. I want to start young students with 45 minute lessons and just do the basics at first. I think parents will like that I charge less than my peers.

About Megan

I am nice, friendly, and outgoing. I have been playing the flute since middle school: 6th grade. I had a private teacher since then. My teachers have changed throughout the years.

Classical approach to produce leaders in the orchestras and bands.
I've been teaching flute for 20 years and my students have gone on to the State level Band Auditions and won multiple times. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to make a decent sound, play scales, arpeggios and simple tunes, and as time goes on you'll be able to play popular tunes solo and with accompaniment of piano or band. I specialize in classical, jazz and klezmer style, typically use best published books, and have the renovated, quiet and spacious studio, music stands, audio equipment. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

Our 12-year old son has been learning clarinet from Mr. Dimitry for about a year now and we highly recommend him to prospective students for his deep music knowledge, rich clarinet performance experience and above all, just being a great clarinet teacher.

In a year's time with Mr. Dimitry, our son's progress has been very impressive. After our son started lessons with Mr. Dimitry, it quickly became apparent that Mr. Dimitry is a very experienced teacher for young musicians. He engages our son effectively to keep him interested in music and clarinet while at the same time sets high expectations for him. Our son always looks forward to clarinet lessons and also is motivated to practice pieces at home.

Mr. Dimitry not only teaches sound clarinet skills, but also emphasizes the importance of playing music the right way, that is to tell stories and express feelings through music rather than to play music like a technician. Although it is difficult for a young musician to fully appreciate this concept, it does go a long way in preparing him to become a really good musician in the long run.

Mr. Dimitry is very polite, pleasant and professional. We recommend him without any reservation.

My 7 year old son has been taking recorder lessons from Dimitry for almost 1 year now. Dimitry is very patient, encouraging, and enganging - considering that my son is on the younger side. Dimitry provides music instruction that is appropriate age and level wise, so my son feels accomplished and challenged at the same time.
We plan to continue with Dimitry and hopefully advance to the clarinet once his fingers can cover the clarinet holes and he has learned more music theory. My son looks forward to his music lessons. We are very pleased with his musical instruction.

Incredibly amiable, professional, and talented as a teacher.

As a senior in high school now graduating and transferring into college, I started my lessons with Dimitry in December last year and had to end this summer at the end of the music school's program. Even though my time learning the saxophone was short, Dimitry used my past musical experience to help guide me through the instrument. His lessons did not feel long in any sense of the word, and in fact some two-hour lessons I took to make up missed weeks blew by, as I was constantly engaged by his teachings. During my studies with him I found myself in the presence of a true musician, and this was only further driven home when I saw him play in the Hanover Wind Symphony at the Morristown Community Theater with Stanley Drucker. I would highly recommend Dimitry as an instructor for a student at any level.

As a devoted instructor, I have a passion for teaching students of all levels. I use knowledge I learned from my flute professors and create a teaching style based on each of my students' individual needs. I value the student being able to create their own ideas and suggestions.

I cover topics from developing proper form to producing a beautiful tone, creating own musical ideas, performing with self-confidence, developing a helpful warm-up, and preparing for an audition.

I highly recommend Sarah. She has excellent skills for any teacher - she's encouraging, knowledgeable and patient. I'm an adult who played piano years ago and always wanted to play the flute but I was frustrated, squeaky, out of breath, and out of tune. With a few weeks of lessons I'm further along than I was trying to teach myself over years.
I had years of serious music study with critical music teachers who made me embarrassed about mistakes and dread my lessons. With Sarah, the learning is fun and I now look forward to every lesson.

"Roberta is by far the best music teacher I’ve had. Before taking up the flute with her a year ago, I had learned to play two other instruments. Roberta is passionate about her art and has an impressive knowledge of music and teaching. She lets you progress at your own pace and is generous with praise. Rescheduling lesson times is never a problem for her and her studio is easy to get to by subway. Thanks to Roberta, learning the flute has been a very rewarding experience for me."

"Sue was a great teacher, even though I only studied with her for a little more than a year. I think I was right up there with one of her favorite "hopeless causes." I started lesson with Sue when I was 65 years old, with absolutely no music background. I so regret that I didn't find Sue and undertake flute when I was much younger. She tried, and was pretty patient, but I think I was pretty hopeless."

"My 7 year-old son began learning recorder with Leasia as a complete beginner. He is taking lessons with Lesia as a music teacher for the past 9 months. She is patient and very friendly. Lesia taught him many things so far, such as how to read notes, all the fundamental techniques of recorder playing including correct posture, hand position, fingering and breathing. Also, my son learned how to play simple classic melodies like "Mary had a little lamb”, “Old Old McDonald had a farm”, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and etc. We are gradually transitioning from recorder to flute now. My son looks forward to Lesia’s lessons, and is enjoying music. I recommend Lesia to everyone and anyone interested in learning to play recorder and flute."
