I'm a casual, easy-going, caring person, and I enjoy establishing a unique working relationship with each student.
I have been teaching flute for about twenty years.
In teaching I employ a personal, individual, flexible approach, to give my students each what benefits him/her the most. I emphasize proper technique, beauty of tone, musical interpretation, and enjoyment. Music theory is intertwined with the instruction. And we play lots of duets!
I also play the piano, thus sometimes accompany my flute students.
About Diane
My second degree is an AA in Music from Grossmont College, near San Diego, CA. As a flutist I have been a member of both the La Jolla Civic Orchestra and the Grossmont Symphony Orchestra.
Since 1989 I have been the principal flute and a soloist with the San Diego Concert Band. In that group I regularly lead flute sectional rehearsals.
Since 2007, I have been a flute coach every summer at San Diego's Band at the Beach music camp for junior high and high school students.
I have taught students from ages 5 to 80 and have good rapport with every age.

I teach flute students of all levels.
About Yuh-Jiun
-Master of Music in Flute performance - Bob Cole Conservatory of Music, CSULB (2015-present)
Current Principle Flute of Bob Cole Conservatory Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony.
Current Flute player in Bob Cole Conservatory Wind Quintet.
Current and past students include: principle flute of Diamond Bar High School Wind Ensemble, principle flute of Pacific Symphony of Youth Wind Ensemble, 1st flute of Claremont Youth Symphony Orchestra.
I am a music teacher and musician in the Los Angeles area. I was born in Taipei, Taiwan. I started my music education at the age of three; it started with clapping, rolling around on the floor, and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. I was fascinated by the magic that music possesses; as Rimsky-K
I started studying flute at the age of 8, and it has been a delightful journey. In high school, I have participated in marching band, symphonic band, wind ensemble, and symphonic orchestra. I was also part of two prestigious local youth orchestra, the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Claremont Young Musician Orchestra.
I obtained my Bachelor of Music (Flute Performance) degree from University of California, Santa Barbara. I grew immensely as a musician during my time in Santa Barbara, I studied under Jill Felber, and I was able to expand my repetoire and gain considerable experience. I even played at the local farmers market as a street performer during the weekends. After graduation , I traveled to my home country Taiwan to study another great musician - Anders Norell, the principal flutist/flautist of the Taiwan Philharmonic. It was another great opportunity as I was able to garner teaching experiences, as well as attending master classes of great flutist/flautist such as Emmanuel Pahud.
As a music teacher, I encourage and inspire. I am foremost a music lover, then flutist and flute teacher. I aspire to spread the abundance of joy and beauty that music has bring into my life. As the great conductor and cellist Pablo Casals puts it: "Music is the divine way to tell beautiful, poetic things to the heart". Therefore, whether if you are a wobbly toddler, high school marching band enthusiast (as I once was), house wife looking for a new hobby, full time employee who always had a love for classical music, or grandmother who is looking for something other than crochet, join me on this wonderful journey.
"The pursuit of music would provide you a life time of joy".

Tony often hears things in my tone and technique that he then works into my lessons.
He can prepare a plan or cover what you want: he seems to enjoy the experience of teaching. But if you want to improve, Tony will help you get where you want to go

I've been teaching the flute for 10 years and I am comfortable working with all age groups and ability levels.
Several of my students have participated in San Diego Honor Band as well as San Diego Youth Symphony. Preparation is the key to success, and I specialize in coaching students for auditions.
I also focus on duets and tone studies to help you unlock the beautiful sound of this instrument.
Music theory is an integral part of each lesson (as well as some basic piano concepts which can be very useful to woodwind players). Jazz conception and improvisation is also a specialty!

I encourage all my students to enjoy exploring the SOUND of their instrument and to find their own voice. Lessons include everything from reading and basic stylistic concepts, to improvisation, learning songs, playing along with recordings of your favorite players, and jazz transcription. I am a graduate of the University of North Texas Jazz Studies program and have over 15 years of teaching experience. I'm currently adjunct faculty at USD Dept of Music, Mesa College, and have taught as a clinician/coach for numerous high school and middle school programs. I work with the student to develop a curriculum based on their musical interests and my own teaching pedagogy. I strongly feel that for young musicians to own their education, they must have a say in what they play. Assigning method books and mindless etudes to practice doesn't have nearly the same effect asking them "Ok, what kind of music do YOU like? What do you want to PLAY? What do you want to LEARN?".
I believe that students learn best when they are invested in a subject, and the best way to get them invested is to individually get to know each one, speak to them on their level, and get them playing music they're interested in.
About Jon
Students can expect to improve their technique and performing repertoire within a matter of weeks. We will collaborate to find music that he or she is interested in, plus work on exercises that will build technique and sound quality. It doesn’t matter WHAT you’re playing, but HOW you play it.
I’ve been a musician for over 20 years and played in a wide variety of settings. In lessons, I’ll draw from that experience to help students achieve their musical goals.
As a performing artist, I’ve played in classic big bands, small jazz combos, and R&B style horn sections, just to name a few. I’m passionate about classical music, jazz, R&B, and funk, but good
