Private Flute Teacher

I have over 14 years of experience in teaching flute and piano to students of all ages and levels. My goal as a flute teacher is to give each student a very well rounded and thorough understanding of the instrument. Lessons will be tailored to each student and will include the following: knowledge of instrument care/maintenance, tone production, technique (scales, etudes, etc), musicality, music theory, and a variety of repertoire from classical to pop.

About Sheila

*** If you would like to purchase lessons with me and don’t see a time that works for you, feel free to send me a message so I can add you to my wait list. My schedule tends to change often, so I will try to accommodate anyone that is dedicated and serious about taking lessons.

***I can currently only accommodate weekly lessons. Requests for lessons that occur other week will not be accepted.

————————————————————————

My interest in music began at the age of seven when I began private instruction in classical piano, and by the age of ten, I began playing the flute. I received my Bachelor of Music with a degree in Music Education from the University of Redlands, where I studied flute with Sara Andon. There, I performed in the university's Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Orchestra. During my third year at university, I studied abroad a

t the Zoltan Kodaly Pedagogical Institute of Music in Kecskemet, Hungary.

In 2013, I graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Masters degree in Flute Performance where I studied flute with Sandra Kipp. At CSUN, I performed in the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Northridge Flute Quartet, and various chamber ensembles. I currently reside in Irvine where I teach private flute and piano lessons and perform with local ensembles.

*** Lesson Details ***
My goal as a music educator is to foster excellence in the art of music through private instruction. I have worked with students of all ages ranging from 5 to older adults.

In my studio, students will have a well rounded music education. This means that we will work on a variety of things such as sight reading, music theory, music history, and a wide range of repertoire (from Beethoven to the Beatles!) While I have high expectations for my students, I do my best to keep the lessons relaxed and lighthearted. My hope is that the student is always engaged and interested during lessons.

My three expectations:

1. Come prepared both mentally and physically (this is especially important for flutists-- make sure to warm up prior to the lesson!)

2. Don't be afraid to ask questions and make mistakes. This is non-threatening territory, I'm here to guide you and help you. Remember that mistakes happen, we're human. Just be sure to learn from those mistakes so that you can take something away from each experience.

3. For parents-- BE INVOLVED! I can't tell you how often I've seen younger students excel when their parents were proactive in the experience. This means encouraging them to practice, coming up with a rewards system, and even sitting in on the lesson to take notes. This way, you can reinforce what we accomplished during the lesson at home together. It's difficult for music teachers to compete with iPads, Playstations and television, so let's get creative together!

*** Required Materials ***
Flute students must own a well maintained flute, as an instrument that is out of adjustment causes frustration and can initiate bad habits. In addition, the student must also have a metronome and tuner, a music stand, flute repertoire, and an assignment book for me to write down each week's assignments.

Piano students must have a working acoustic piano or digital piano in their home for piano lessons. The student must also have a metronome, piano repertoire, and an assignment book for each week's assignments.

Private Flute Teacher

All ages and levels of students.

About Michelle

Classical performing and recording artist Michelle M. has openings for flute students of any level, from beginner to advanced. Michelle has performed worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician. As a teacher, she focuses on learning skills correctly from the beginning, with emphasis on good tone production and healthy body mechanics. She also works with high school students preparing college auditions, and has regular recital opportunities for all students.

"I love teaching private lessons. It's so much fun watching students grow musically and emotionally! My teaching style emphasizes learning CORRECTLY from the beginning, so that bad habits don't form, such as bad posture which can lead to pain down the road. I also pick music which the students know and enjoy, so that playing daily becomes a fun ritual for them.

"Learning mus

ical skills such as theory, composition and improvisation are also part of my teaching style. These things strengthen a student's overall musical knowledge and enjoyment. I also highly recommend that students listen and watch flute performances, either recordings or live concerts.

"Of course, the best part is playing, and I encourage all students to perform as much as possible, whether in my student recitals or in outside concerts. I offer many opportunities for performance, and help prepare students for their own band or orchestra concerts as well."

Michelle is a great music instructor. It is hard to compress so much in an hour but she makes it work. My daughter takes lessons for her flute auditions and it really builds her confidence and flute skills. I look forward to seeing her grow musically and continuing with the lessons. The only bad thing is I wish she lived closer!

Michelle is a fantastic teacher! My daughter has been taking lessons with Michelle for 2 years during the summer months as a supplement to her regular lessons. Michelle has a way of making music fun and enjoyable so that my daughter doesn't get bored or burnt out. Her teaching style is an amazing mix of both fun and effective so that my daughter comes away from her summer lessons with new skills beyond my expectations. I highly recommend Michelle!

Private Flute Teacher

My philosophy is to help the students focus on their mental and physical states while practicing and performing. If both their body and mind are relaxed when playing, they will accomplish more and be happier with their performance!

I have been taking private flute lessons for over 14 years and have experienced many different teaching styles and philosophies. I began teaching my own private lessons six years ago, and since then I have learned a lot about helping students progress quickly and efficiently.

Each in person lesson will begin with a duet so that I can evaluate the student's progress since their last lesson. Every online lesson will begin with a warm up. We will proceed to discuss their practicing and what the student believes is working for them and what they are struggling with. I can then address any issues or concerns that they have throughout the lesson.

Students will be asked to study technical and tonal exercises as well as repertoire. I will help the student ...

Private Flute Teacher

'm a full-time musician in the music industry for 13 years now performing with such artists as J.C. Chasez (N'Sync), Tony-award winner Alice Ripley along with several theater companies. I've also coached multiple band programs for 4 years now. Success comes from having a thorough understanding of each instrument I play. This allows for multiple approaches to learning each instrument, rapid development of the student and involving fun teaching techniques. You'll learn fast and enjoy doing it!

About Jesse

Music lessons were such a chore in my childhood. My mother drudgingly dragged me to lessons every week and forced me to practice at least once a week before my next lesson. I soon met a new teacher who offered a different perspective and genuinely made playing music fun.

I can honestly say that it changed my life.

I wouldn't come to understand how until much later. I couldn't have even imagined becoming a professional musician until college but I was certainly given the tools to be successful in whatever I pursued living in such a demanding and competitive world. Self-confidence, active critical thinking skills, consistent work ethic, maintaining a healthy imagination, a lifelong appreciation for the arts. These all stem from my time in lessons and later my career in music.

As a professional musician in the San Diego and Los A

ngeles area, I perform regularly with many different music groups and solo artists including Frankie J, San Diego Symphony, San Diego Winds, Sure Fire Soul Ensemble and many more. I have also coached the band programs at Helix, Hoover, Del Norte and Rancho Buena Vista High Schools on all woodwinds.

Originally a classically-trained saxophonist (concert band, orchestral, solo literature), I currently hold a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Music emphasis in Jazz from California Institute of the Arts and Bachelors of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University. I specialize in teaching intermediate and advanced students but also work very efficiently with beginners.

In the spirit of my previous teachers, I encourage new and fun methods of music instruction while still reinforcing the basics. All with the idea of having fun while playing music!

Thank you for your consideration.

I have been working with Jesse for a few years now. I am bummed that the subject section of this review only lets me select one subject. Jesse has helped me with ear training, theory and composition, piano, performance, harmony, and overall musician advice. I cannot think of a more authentic and caring mentor and teacher out there that could be as efficient and helpful as Jesse has been to my career. I have seen a lot of progress in my musical career and my confidence as a musician has grown thanks to Jesse! He genuinely cares about the art and his students, he gets involved in their music careers and makes sure that the lesson is learned. He is familiar with many approaches and works hard for his students. Music is very lucky to have Jesse as a teacher!

I highly recommend lessons with Jesse, he makes playing fun!

We all learn differently, and I try to accommodate the student's style as much as possible in lessons! I thoroughly believe that skill is a learned attribute, and with the right teacher ANYONE with enough drive can accomplish whatever their goals are.

About Guthrie

Hi everyone, I'm Guthrie! I love music more than anything else; playing, teaching, composing are all my life passions. My styles vary from Irish flute to classical, and sometimes bagpipes on the side!

I'm from the Washington state, but currently studying music in Montréal, Québec. I've also lived and played music in Germany and Norway, both of which have shaped my personal taste in music. And as a teacher, I like to let the student tell me how they like to learn, what kind of music they want to learn to play, and then I can accommodate that. I promise you will learn a lot from me, (and me from you!) and have quite a bit of fun on the side!

With more than four decades of teaching and performing experience in flute, piccolo and mixed instrumental ensembles, students of all ages will gain a solid head start and a strong competitive edge.
Effective practice routines are introduced along with a desire to learn , create, achieve and succeed.
Most of my students hold top positions in their school bands and other musical settings.
Sessions are customized according to individual needs and skill level.
Troubleshooting problems , tone development and college entrance preparation are but a few of my fields of expertise.

Small groups of mixed instrumentation (Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, Acoustic Guitar, Harp, Keyboards and more) are also offered.
