I am a professional singer who has been teaching voice for over five years. I have taught in the schools as well as privately. I use a combination of somatic movement and experiencing, voice training, and musicianship to help singers achieve their singing goals.

I help singers learn how to use their bodies well and embody music in order to achieve the results they want and have the results stick. Lesson plans vary depending on the student's goals. Some learning goals from previous students include freeing the voice, eliminating vocal strain and tension, improving intonation and rhythmic feel, improvising jazz and other African American folk styles, and building vocal endurance. However, the student can always expect to leave a lesson with a greater understanding of themselves and their voices. Does this speak to you? I look forward to working with you!

About Anastasia

I am a singer, violist, voice coach, music educator, somatic movement educator, and interdisciplinary artist. I hold two degrees: a Bachelor of Science from the University of Vermont and a Bachelor of Music from the UNC School of the Arts. Born and raised in Memphis, TN, I grew up singing gospel

An Ya is an amazing musician. She doesn't only teach people like me how to sing. She's out there in the real world... playing her viola and singing in front of crowds throughout the region. In my experience with An Ya, she adapted my vocal lessons to work specifically on areas where I was struggling. She always seem to drill down to the real root of the vocal problem I was having and helped me improve. I wasn't able to stick with lessons as long as I had hoped, due to conflicts with my work schedule. However, I came away from my time with An Ya with better control over my diaphragm and a stronger "head" voice. Thanks to An Ya, I'm a better singer than I was before.

"New experience, and I'm loving every minute of it.

Over the past month I chose Tanisha as my instructor and I am very fortunate to have such a wonderful teacher who cares about my improvement. She knows exactly how far to push a student. The first day I went to class I was a bit nervous since it was a whole new experience but Tanisha made me feel VERY comfortable, she's very nice and honest.

She’s also very supportive and knows how to make you improve your weaknesses. She provided me with the lyrics and even chose a great song that would benefit me as a beginner. I really appreciate her teaching me and giving me her honest opinion. She really cares about her students and I would highly recommend her to anymore!! I really look up to Tanisha, she’s a very talented musician. I always look forward rehersal !"
