I am not a highly trained singer, but I have taken many voice lessons over the years from various teachers, ranging from western classical teachers to Hindustani classical teachers. My guitar students are routinely made to sing, and I think singing is at the heart of all musical expression. I would love to help you find your voice.

About Luke
I majored in music at Berea College, then went on to The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where I completed a Masters degree in guitar performance and served as the graduate assistant to the guitar department.

For the past ten years I have earned a living performing and teaching guitar. I am a certified Suzuki instructor, and I've held teaching positions at Winston Salem State University and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, along with at least half a dozen other schools and institutions. I've been featured on other artists' records, and received a grant to release an album of my own songs. I regularly perform in a wide variety of bands and ensembles.

I love to teach, and over the years I have taught hundreds, maybe even thousands of lessons. Having learned something from each and every one
of my students, I am now at a point where I excel at honing in on the individual interests and learning styles of whoever comes to me for help. There are many ways to learn guitar. The best one is the one that engages and inspires you the most. That said, there are also music fundamentals that we all need to know. My joy as a teacher lies in finding a way for you to master the fundamentals while at the same time following your personal bliss and intuition. We plot the course together, combining your curiosity and enthusiasm with my years of experience.

I also love working with kids. While they are having fun jamming, I discretely provide them with the technique and musicianship they'll need to excel in any musical environment, whether it's conservatory study or playing in a great band.

*** Lesson Details ***
Your enthusiasm is the key to your success, so my lessons are tailored to the interests and abilities of each student. That said, my classical background and dedication to effective teaching inform everything I do.

All of my students learn Music Fundamentals:
-Technique (habits of movement)
-Theory (how music works)
-Aural skills (hearing pitches, chords and rhythms clearly)

Many of my students use books. There are hundreds of great books these days, and I will work with students from any book they choose. Listed here are the books I regularly use. They all deliver great results:

-Aaron Shearer "Leaning The Classic Guitar"
-Will Schmidt and Greg Koch "The Hal Leonard Method"
-Joe Pecoraro "Read This First"
-David Oaks "Music Reading For Guitar"
-William Leavitt "A Modern Method For Guitar"
-Mateo Carcassi "Melodic and Progressive Studies, Opus 60"
-Leo Brouwer "Simple Studies"

Many of my students prefer to work without a book, and that is a great option too. These students learn scales, chords and theory and develop a repertoire of songs. I will show you how to play any song you'd like to learn. You can also work on writing your own songs or compositions, or improvising in any context, be it jazz, blues, Indian raga or flamenco.

Singing is also encouraged!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home studio: music stands, extensive library of all kinds of music, great sound system and ability to stream any song, several guitars, recording equipment, footstools, keyboard and percussion instruments.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I'll bring my guitar and books, accessories as needed.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in versatility. I regularly play gigs doing classical, jazz, blues, rock, pop, and world music. All of these genres have a place in my heart, and I've devoted years to learning to play and teach them well.

I am equally polyamorous when it comes to the various things musicians do. I love to sing pop songs, dissect jazz lines, delve into expressive groupings with classical pieces, drill scales and arpeggios, you name it. Reading, improvising, composing and notating, transcribing and playing by ear, memorization, classical technique, blues technique, bluegrass technique, theoretical analysis... hit me up for any of that, or whatever else interests you.

Learn to sing and have fun doing it! I follow your lead! After conducting an initial knowledge assessment, your lessons will be individually catered to your strengths and weaknesses so that we can build up your vocal skills and confidence, and help you wow crowds!

About Susan
I love music and everything about it! I can't wait to share it with you and help make your singing dreams come true!

In my classes, I give professional evaluations with constructive feedback. We detail body mechanics, the fundamentals, the language of music and we cover the key components to nailing a performance.

Whether you are looking to learn to project, or how to make it through an entire show without blowing your voice--I'm your gal! Because I cater to all experience levels, I like to focus on the individual goals of the student and build on those.

So what do online lessons look like? A lot like regular lessons, but I LOVE online lessons. I find that students feel more comfortable and they are great for those in rural areas, or those that travel frequently (I have had students in touring bands!)

Online lessons work b
est with headphones and any microphone, but even using speakers on your smartphone, we can have a fantastic lesson. I teach in the Takelessons virtual classroom, which is really user-friendly.

I record warm-up files so you have accompaniment to practice with. I will also track down song files for whatever you want to work on. These are yours to keep and they also help prevent any sound delays.

ABOUT ME--

I have been performing since the age of three. At the age of seven, I began classical vocal lessons. When I was 13, I moved my vocal training at the local University becoming the youngest classical vocal student.

After years of participating in musical theatre productions, I landed a job in a guitar shop that lead to a big shift in my musical interests. I left my small town, the theatre and my classical background behind and began fronting both Country and Rock bands, even singing alongside Juice Newton, The Oak Ridge Boys, Glen Campbell, Sugarland, and Trick Pony on stage at the Porterfield Country Music Festival in 2005, which has in years past drawn nationally known country music artists such as Johnny Cash, Charlie Daniels, and Loretta Lynn.

At age 19, I had an acoustic act which landed me a guest spot on 'The Tyra Banks Show.' I have been a featured performer at Chicago's House of Blues, as well as some of the most popular hotspots in Wrigleyville.

In most recent years, I have been behind the scenes as a vocal coach in Chicago, Southern CA and now back to Michigan where I lead a children's choir.

I have four children, my youngest daughter has Down syndrome, and when I'm not singing, I'm an outspoken advocate for children with disabilities.

Group and individual lessons available; basics for healthy singing, choral and solo singing

About Hillary
Hillary C. has been singing since joining the Sunrise Singers in elementary school. While singing in various choral groups, she also took private lessons to develop proper vocal technique. Her own students will appreciate the classical training she received as well as musical theater styles she has learned over the years.

At Washington and Lee University, Hillary participated in University Chorus, Chamber Singers, an a cappella group, and performed in musicals on stage. She studied music history, performance, and theory. Hillary earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Vocal Production and received the Choral Award upon graduation. She has performed with the St. Louis Symphony Chorus, Dallas Symphony Chorus, and Incarnation church choir.

Hillary also studied piano for seven years during which time she won theory awards and was the star
pupil of her studio. She recently began a piano pedagogy class for continuing education credit.

Students under Hillary's tutelage can expect to gain an appreciation for classic works, learn basic music theory and ear training, and understand proper keyboard or vocal technique. She believes success comes from loving music and working hard to perform well.

About Orla
Hi there! My name is Orla Conway and I can’t wait to sing with you!!
-The biggest difference between my teaching style and any other local voice coach is: my Relaxation First method.
This wholistic, centering, and therapeutic technique uses guided relaxation to insure that students not only learn about proper vocal technique, but actually master it in a way that is natural to their own voice and learning style.
I am dedicated to nurturing the differences in each students voice, and through this customized approach my students learn to understand their bodies and gain total control over their intonation, resonance, and vibrance.
This simply means that the student will be able to sing any style of music they want!
My Relaxtion First methodology is often viewed by my students as deeply therapeutic as I lead them through exerci
ses which steady the breath, relax the muscles, and center the body. We approach singing as a natural form of therapy that helps the singer understand their body fully, and express themselves effortlessly.
Together we will eliminate tension, strain and pain from the singing experience. We will gain comfort, ease and will highlight the beauty in your unique sound (as opposed to attempting to make your voice conform to someone else's style).
I am here to make you sound like the most authentic version of yourself, and to find the deep joy and expression that comes from letting your voice be heard!

-The most important thing to me when working with singers of any age or ability is:
Helping them learn the correct techniques to keep their voices safe and healthy while singing. A Beginner Lesson Plan begins by covering the three main foundations of healthy happy singing:
1.Posture
2.Breathing
3.Placement (head voice, mask voice, chest voice)
After covering these techniques, my students will be able to achieve almost any style and level of singing they desire. It is totally possible to stretch your vocal range, learn a new style, or incorporate movement into your songs if you follow this method!
I also make sure to focus a lot on confidence and stage presence throughout all of our lessons to help students prepare for upcoming auditions, showcases, concerts, and talent shows.

Applying my Relaxation First methodology to these industry secret foundations of strong vocal technique make it easy and natural for you to find your voice and transition out of your stage fright so that you can own that stage like you were born to be there, because you were!!
These are not only vocal coaching sessions, but complete performance-ready-workshops.
I am here to make all your singing and vocal performance dreams come true!

-I began my vocal training:
at the age of 12 learning how to sing classical and musical theater music. I eventually went on to learn jazz and rock vocal techniques before going to Berklee College of Music in Boston where I learned how to sing celtic music and alternative contemporary styles. I have my own band which I write all the music for, and we have performed all around Boston and in New York City.
My students have achieved admission into Berklee College of Music in Boston, lead roles in their school plays such as Peter Pan, Into the Woods, and Julius Caesar. They have achieved new levels of confidence and power that have made them the stars of their local open mics, talent shows, and recitals!

Please feel free to message me with any questions.
It’s my job to make this process as seamless and comfortable for you as possible :)
Let’s get singing!

I coach in multiple genres: Jazz -- determining keys, understanding charts and leadsheets, Broadway -- belt, mix and legit, Blues, and for classical singers, multiple languages. I work extensively with actors on both speaking and singing voice and with voice-over and media voices.

As a stage director, I offer stage and performance etiquette, interpretation and how to prepare for auditions and recording sessions. If you are a community singer and just getting started, I love teaching the basics and will help you build the confidence you need!

Lessons are in a double studio with high ceilings, great acoustics and both a grand piano and electronic.

About Diane
You will never regret having voice lessons with a true professional. I've performed and taught across the US, Europe, and Australia. As a singer/stage director I've produced over fifty cabaret shows, musicals and operas. As a recording artist, I've released the CDs: "Music in Flight," endorsed by Doctors Without Borders and "Rosas de Pulpa," a digital album of Argentine music, which was recently nominated Classical Album of the Year by "Just Plain Folks." It is a pleasure to provide a recommendation for Diane McNaron and her studio. My daughter has been taking private lessons for more than three years and we have been exceptionally pleased with the results. Ms. McNaron’s extensive background and experience in a wide variety of musical genres allows her to customize lessons around the student’s vocal strengths and interests rather than force a cookie cutter approach. Ms. McNaron has nurtured her talent in a positive, professional manner and I highly recommend her for those looking to improve, learn, or simply polish their current vocal skill set. You will not be disappointed.

Despite having a lot of vocal training, there is nothing I love more than working with beginners! The fundamentals can make the difference between a long healthy life of singing, or eventual vocal strain.

With young students I like to build healthy and practical music habits using using music that is fun, but also helps to build music reading skills (often overlooked for singers)!

Older students often fear it is too late, but vocal skills can be learned at any age! We can learn for fun, prepare to join a choir, or build up the courage to audition for that solo.

About Courtney
Hello, I am Courtney!

As a teacher I strive to meet each student where they are at so that our lessons can suit their strengths and needs. I can be a little silly with my young students and believe that music, while sometimes hard work, is most importantly for our enjoyment and emotional expression. I am very patient and love nothing more than a student's "aha!" moment, when something that seems difficult finally makes sense. I've been told by administrators that I have a very calming demeanor with students, which I believe has helped me to create a open and welcoming classroom.

I grew up in the mountain town of Stowe, Vermont, where I participated in music activities from the time I was a young child. I was part of our school's band, jazz band and chorus as well as participating in school and community theater both on and off stag
e. I've wanted to be a teacher since the age of 10, when my youngest sister was born. I loved babysitting, and took every opportunity I could to work with children as I grew up, including teaching Sunday School and being a music leader at a yearly camp. I chose to combine my two passions and become a music teacher, because I believed (and still do) that not only could I assist in their education, but that music is a wonderful tool to help students grow emotionally and socially as well. I now have been a licensed music teacher since 2012 and have a Bachelor's in Music Education from Hartt School of Music and a Master's in Music Education from Boston University.

After teaching in Connecticut for a number of years, my husband and I moved to our current home in Santa Monica, CA. We have a five-year-old fluffy corgi named Duke who lives a double life as a spoiled baby and a hard-working service dog. If you are in the Santa Monica area you may see us out and about at parks, people watching downtown, or generally enjoying the sun.

It is important to first dissect the emotion and message in a song by examining the lyrics. Then one must be mentally and physically prepared to project that emotion or message through vocal variety. For whatever style of song you like to sing, there are many ways to express those emotions with your unique voice. If you would like, we may also sing in other languages (Japanese, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Spanish).

About Natsumi
I am a EL (English Language) Teacher Assistant serving various middle schools and elementary schools at Peninsula School District. I speak Japanese(日本語)and English. While I am not teaching, my interest is singing (symphonic metal, alternative, j-rock), and learning languages (Swedish/svenska, Norwegian/norsk, Danish/dansk, and Spanish/español).
Although I would like to think that I have all the answers, I would also like to learn something new from the students as well. I look forward to working with everyone!
