I offer 24 years of experience playing, and 17 years teaching privately and as a public school band director. My curriculum focuses on technique, theory, style, and interpretation.

To develop quality saxophone technique, an emphasis on posture, breath support, embouchure, tone quality, intonation, articulation, and fingering is incorporated in each portion of a given lesson.

The importance of theory and scales is outlined and taught with each lesson. A challenging scale assignment to improve technical ability and music theory knowledge directly correlated to the assigned repertoire will help students understand the structure of the music they are practicing.

Saxophone students dedicate practice time to classical repertoire that includes both lyrical and technical challenges. Demonstrating the highest level of performance and knowledge of a piece is the desired result. A portion of each lesson is dedicated to students learning the style of jazz, a staple for the saxophone. Students

I start from scratch with every student, and create a plan based on their goals, experience, and preferred music styles. No two students have the same lesson.

Additionally, because the jazz school I attended gave students very strong instruction in harmony and ear-training, I teach students not just how to read notes, but to understand what they're playing so they can be more creative and versatile. Moreover, I encourage students to feel comfortable making mistakes in a safe environment so they can step outside of their comfort zone.

About Marshal

I've been involved with music for nearly my whole life. I started out with Suzuki violin lessons and then switched to piano when I was in the 2nd grade and have been performing, studying, composing, and teaching ever since. I graduated from Yale with a Bachelor's in History and afterwards earn

Thank you Amy. The lesson was absolutely wonderful! One thing though, as I was trying to take notes, the information coming at me started coming at me too fast. It was like a whirlwind came flying just over my head. But I did manage to catch much of it. Good stuff.

"My lesson experience with Blake Aaron has spanned many years and has included more than just guitar! Aside from being a chart-topping Jazz virtuoso on the guitar he is incredible with teaching and demonstrating many many styles of music.

I love music theory as it applies to many instruments and Blake is truly a master. I've worked with him on total arrangements of songs (including entire horn sections !! ) and he is FANTASTIC!

Blake is a Guitarist and a TOTAL Musician...you'll be AMAZED that one person can know all that he does !!!"

"Bill is a great teacher. We have covered rock lead, rock rhythm, finger picking, strumming patterns all while learning new songs and expanding my playing base. I had tried to self teach back in the 1990s so had some bad habits, Bill has worked with my to fix these so I can play more fluidly. Bill is very accommodating to what I want to learn while pushing the expansion of my ability. It's been a very enjoyable experience."

"Infectious Enthusiasm

What makes Ryan a terrific instructor is more than just his extensive guitar knowledge. It's more than the personalized curriculum and patient approach he offers to each student. It's even more than his great sense of humor and the encouragement he brings to each lesson. What makes Ryan a truly great instructor becomes apparent within moments of meeting him: this dude LOVES the guitar. Simple as it sounds, the sheer enthusiasm he has for the instrument is infectious and carries over into his lessons in such a way that you can't help but take it home with you. Learning a new instrument can be a daunting and difficult journey, but you will not find an instructor more willing to guide you through it than Ryan."

Tips for Open Mic: 3 Ways Guitarists Can Shine

Performing (like songwriting) is a craft at which any dedicated musician can excel. It requires no prerequisites – only the desire to share your talent and creations.
