Students music-style preferences will be incorporated as much as is possible at any given stage of development

We will work from the bottom up, starting with proper breathing and warm up exercises.
Scale work and technical drills are made fun through games and other means to keep things interesting :)
Repertoire work will be chosen according to experience level after basic assessment, we can work together to find something you enjoy playing.
Basic theory and music history will be addressed naturally as we work through new pieces!

I am more than happy to work on any other music you are currently playing for school or other ensembles.

Let's have fun and work hard!

About Kristin
Hello!

I received a Bachelor's in Music Education and Performance from Drake University in Flute and Piano. Currently pursuing a Master's in Music Therapy.

At Drake, I received a musical scholarship covering 80% of my tuition costs.
I was also honored to sit as Principal Flute in both the Drake Symphony Orchestra and the Drake Wind Symphony, the top performing groups at the University.

I started to play the flute and piano in second grade, and
my love and passion for music have only grown and matured since then.

I enjoy sharing what I've learned, and learning from my students as well.

I am excited and thrilled by the opportunity to work with you!

My first piano lesson turned out to be so much more than I could have ever expected. My teacher, Kristin is so engaged in the lesson and so very well prepared. We covered so much in such a short time. She made every minute both fun and informative while providing a very friendly environment in her studio. I feel very fortunate to have found such a really competent music teacher.

Joshua is a wonderfully talented and skilled musician AND communicator. His heart is in his work, and his teaching style is encouraging and supportive. I'm an older student (senior actually) revisiting my past love of the flute. My hour lesson flies by and it always ends with me feeling I've learned a lot. Thanks, Joshua, for being the fine teacher you are! My four stars "Great Experience" is a five star.

Instruction for fundamentals and techniques of flute as a primary instrument (or doubling instrument) in both classical and jazz styles.

About Stephanie
Hello, and thank you for your interest!

My name is Stephanie, I am a teaching-artist from El Paso, Texas. I currently reside, perform and teach in the Boston and greater Boston area.

I am a recent graduate of The New England Conservatory of Music with my Masters in Saxophone Performance. I received my Bacherlors in Music Education from New Mexico State University.

“A teaching artist, by definition, is a two-career professional: a working artist and a working educator. As a working artist is they are involved in an ongoing process of discovery, problem solving, discipline and refinement of skills in their discipline. As a working educator, it is essential that the artist is also developing a knowledge base and skills to be an effective partner in education. Achieving a meaningful balance between these two professions, whereby one
feeds the other, is an ongoing process that requires a deepening awareness for the teaching artist of what their teaching brings to their art and what their art teaches them about learning.”

I am devoted and dedicated to helping find each of my students strengths, weaknesses and style of learning. Once I have identified these traits, I am able to develop lessons and repertoire that helps each students become the most efficient learner and best musician they can be.

I pride myself in creating a fun and safe learning environment in which I establish a firm musical foundation for my students. Lessons include: scales, etudes, articulation, dynamic and sight reading exercises, standard saxophone repertoire, recording and analyzing performances, saxophone/music history lessons, and exploration of the sounds, genres and artists of the saxophone.

Simultaneously, my students cultivate many other skills while learning how to play saxophone. Students enhance their fine motor skills and ability to memorize, students increase their overall self-confidence and become self-sufficient and creative problem solvers. I am passionate about educating and empowering my students and I enjoy connecting with a wide array of musicians of all ages, playing levels and backgrounds.

Feel free to contact me to inquire about lessons, I hope to hear from you soon!

Stephanie is not only an incredible saxophonist, but a great teacher as well. She's cheerful and upbeat and really encouraging! I really enjoyed working with her over the course of a semester on a directed goal. I found her teaching methodology to be very flexible and she was open to finding different ways to help me learn to play a vibrato. I also learned many technical details about playing saxophone that surprised me and made me a better player. I would recommend her with enthusiasm.

I love helping students succeed, and to feel a sense of accomplishment as well as having a good time while playing. I try to make every lesson something exciting to look forward to, leaving them wanting to practice before every lesson, whether it be learning a new piece, improvisations, singing, or any new activities. I consider myself as a guide, not someone that pushes or dictates students. It is my interest to create a positive, kind, genuine, fun, and creative atmosphere during a lesson.

About April
I have picked up and loved the flute for 13 years, and I wish to share this passion and creativity with students. I have had the opportunity to study under Emily McKay and Marco Granados, as well as perform in masterclasses with Trevor Wye, William Bennett, and Lorna Mcghee. As a recent Denver citizen, I wish to grow my roots as a teacher who fosters flute playing as a fun and outside-the-box activity.
I have started teaching private lessons since high school, and into my college and graduate school years. I have taken classes on pedagogy and teaching artistry in creative ways, such as teaching students to do improvisations and asking questions in order to get them engaged in the learning process. I have played classical, jazz, pop, and latin music, and can teach an array of different genres. I believe music contributes to a well-ro
unded individual, and will gladly accept students of all experiences and ages. My goal will to always keep the student engaged and having fun!

April is wonderful. She is finding 'hidden' problems with my breathing and use, or at times misuse of my neck muscles and breathing that would be very hard for a lesser teacher to detect and work to correct.
Her ear for pitch/tone and the various 'artifact' background variances in my blowing/breathing structure and ways toward a remedy is amazing.
Any teacher can show a student posture and finger placement, but her teaching techniques go far beyond that.
I am more than pleased with her commitment to excellence.
Thank you April.

At age 12, I wanted to play piccolo in a marching band. though I was soon to be inspired by the amazing young musicians of the Seattle Youth Symphony and camp Orchestras under Maestro Vilem Sokol. Then thrilled to join them after having the good fortune of training with the then Seattle Symphony flute/piccolo players- Sidney and Adele Zeitlin, I began as a classical flute and voice major at WWSU in Bellingham.
My growing attraction to theater, then jazz, led me to Seattle UW San Francisco S U drama departments, while studying and playing every improvisational style of music from Brazilian to free form and pop/rock with many artists such as Paul Horn, Bobby McFerrin, Mark Murphy, Chuck Sher (Sher Music publisher), touring with renowned bebop vocalist, Jon Hendricks from the west coast to NYC,

Since then, I have performed voice, flute, and picollo in my own and others' numerous classical, jazz, pop, and theater ensembles, for over 45 years, teaching flute and voice since age 17 at

About Abby
Due to my maternal grandfather's work as a Chicago vaudeville orchestra leader, from early childhood, the performing arts have been in my blood. Starting to study classical flute at age 12, then playing in the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras and taking professional jazz/classical flute workshops/master classes, I've been teaching and playing all styles of music professionally since my 20's.

Vocal study began at age 15 with some great artists/educators in SF, Seattle, and Europe, including Bobby McFerrin, Mark Murphy, Adrian West from NYC Broadway, David Tigner- SF Opera, Davida Kagan-Seattle Opera, and Roland Wyatt-
Manhattan Transfer coach /NY Academy of Dramatic Arts. Through many teaching years, I've developed a very successful, uniquely simple 8 part method to help cross cultural individuals and groups sing optimally from thei
r hearts. For all levels from beginners to professional. the necessary basic vocal techniques can be taught effectively in 4 to 8 lessons, though the process of becoming a successful artist continues during one's lifetime.

With a BA in Theater Arts from SFSU, and over 50 years directing, acting, and musical experience, including 15 years working successfully as an ESL educator, my experience has allowed me to help any student achieve their personal and/or professional goals.

I have experience teaching flute lessons to everyone from ages 5 to adult and from complete beginners to aspiring professionals. My students have won local competitions and been admitted to the music programs at universities such as UNT. I like to make sure that each student's practice comes from a place of mutual respect and understanding and I emphasize clear communication in practice expectations as well as when explaining playing concepts. I am a patient teacher and questions are encouraged!

About Cassie
I am an active teacher and performer newly returned to the Seattle area after a decade away. I have a BM from the University of Oregon and an MM from the University of North Texas, both concentrated in flute performance.

I recently spent three years in Texas and had a studio of 35 middle and high school flutists who under my tutelage improved their skills, gained new appreciation for music, won local competitions (one received a brand new professional flute for her award!) and one received an offer to attend UNT to study music for their undergraduate degree.

I also pursue an active playing career, but I am especially focused on teaching. More information and links to my playing can be found at www.cassielear.com

Note for summer 2017: I am spending two months in Italy playing operas and, while I am very excited to respond to your
message, may not be as available as usual. Lessons will begin again in mid August and if you found this profile as a new student, I am very excited about fitting you in!

I have been in the top ensembles and top chairs for most of that time and have performed in various honor recitals with the top musicians in my university. I am working on completing my bachelor of science in music therapy with flute as my primary. I have had the opportunity to work and learn from outstanding flutist and musicians which have allowed me to become a well rounded musician and flutist. You can expect lessons with me to be effective, fun, and a breath of fresh air - literally.

About Anna
My name is Anna Hernandez and I have been a flutist for most of my life. I let my love for flute and music drive me to be competitive and the best I could be. I was consistently the top player in the top ensembles throughout middle school, high school, and college. I had the wonderful opportunity to work with stellar musicians who helped me become the seasoned and well-rounded musician I am today. My degree focus is on Music Therapy, but as a result of my music studies, I became more dedicated and passionate about my flute playing. I have studied flute in college for over 5 years and have played it for almost 15. I have played in ensembles of both Universities I have attended - The University of Texas at Austin and Texas Woman's University. I love to work with students and instill the love of music in them by finding what their passion an

I offer 45-minute and 60-minute private flute lessons from my home in Cross Junction, VA. I've taught private flute lessons for the last 10 years and have worked with students of all ages--8 to 73! My students have gone on to win local and state-wide competitions and have been accepted to collegiate music programs.

Music lessons teach much more than music. In addition to music knowledge, I hope my students walk away from flute lessons with a sense of self-confidence, an inquisitive mind, and a joy for learning. My students and I work together to create fun and attainable goals while learning the importance of responsibility, punctuality, and self-motivation. Music lessons should be a safe and fun space for students to stretch their boundaries and be creative.

Music lessons aren't just for kids! Some of my most memorable students were adults. Don't be afraid to try something new!

When my son Charles approached me asking to take flute lessons I was skeptical. Our family is not musical and I had no idea where to begin the search for a flute teacher! Fortunately, Katelyn was teaching a friend of Charlie at the time and allowed us to come in and observe the lesson before we jumped in to flute lessons. Her rapport with the students and the bond she works to build with them is amazing. Charlie learned so much more than the flute during his time with Katelyn--she encouraged his creativity in all aspects of his life and helped him build self-confidence during hard times. Charlie is no longer playing the flute but the things he learned with Katelyn continue to help him in his daily life.
