Clarinet is my primary instrument. I can help beginners get started or coach advanced students who are preparing for auditions.

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

*** Specialties ***
music, band, orchestra, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, violin, viola, cello, string bass, piano, Percussion

My son just had his first lesson with Christian and was very happy. He has been playing in the school band for a year and needs some help prepping for next year. We emailed the music he has to learn to Christian and after some warm up and exercises to assess my son, they dove straight into the etude he was struggling with.
We weren’t sure about the online format, but it worked just fine and we won’t have to drag a full size tuba around town anymore!

The clarinet is an incredibly expressive instrument, but only if you can cover the holes! I specialize in helping students make music with this incredibly capable instrument!

About Joshua
I am a tutor who earned a music teaching degree, substitute taught, and didn't become a school teacher. I held professional tech retail jobs and am supplementing my life with my passion - education.

Whatever subject or instrument I teach, I celebrate students' successes; and I enjoy helping learners have new aha moments.

The majority of my students take guitar, bass guitar, or Spanish lessons. I am an educator and help my students learn other skills and knowledge sets too.

I went to Ohio State University for college, earned a BA in Music Education, and graduated Cum Laude. I also spent 4 years in the Ohio State University Marching Band.

Through my healing journey, I've developed patience, insight, and understanding for my students' learning processes.

I'm excited to help you incorporate new skills into your life!

In search of helping our 10 year old son build some self-confidence we sought out clarinet lessons this summer. He started playing in school last year, and it was something our reluctant son liked "enough" to want to build up some competency. Joshua has been amazing! He finds just the right amount of challenge to encourage my son to practice, but not get discouraged. My son looks forward to his lesson each week and told me that he isn't even sure he wants to switch to saxophone next year because he is having so much fun playing the clarinet. Joshua is amazing with children, and has spent time getting to know our kiddo and find out what will work best for him. Patient, calm, and inspiring--very talented instructor.

Joshua Blatman is a fantastic music teacher. He has a great resume, is experienced in a variety of instruments, and a solid background in teaching.
I think any kids lucky enough to learn music from Joshua will have fun and hopefully fall in love with learning it, just like my kids have.

The clarinet can be one of the most frustrating instruments out there if you're lacking the necessary fundamentals, so my goal is to work on that to help you enjoy playing that much more. As I've gotten older I've realized how important the basics and fundamentals are for growing and improving; otherwise you'll reach a plateau where you won't be able to progress. I can help you improve technically and musically using a trusted blend of methods and repertoire, including Klose, Rose, Boehm, etc. I believe in this method since I'm a product of the same style and method of teaching, which has helped me play professionally in several orchestras, including the San Juan Symphony, Roswell Symphony, Spazio Musica Opera Festival, and other regional groups.

About Wojciech
Wojciech (pron. Voytek) is the Music Director of the Summerville Orchestra in Summerville, SC. He was selected from a field of 63 applicants, and is actively working on growing the music scene in the Summerville community.

Prior to his arrival in Summerville, Wojciech spent four years in New Mexico, working as a pianist, clarinetist and teacher while completing his graduate degree at the University of New Mexico. At UNM he studied Orchestral Conducting with Dr. Jorge Perez-Gomez, Piano & Opera Coaching with Dr. Kristin Ditlow, and clarinet with Prof. Keith Lemmons.

At UNM, he was the Assistant Conductor of the UNMSO, and the first Music Director/Co-founder of the Health Sciences Center Orchestra (HSCO) of UNM. Other conducting engagements apart from UNM included work as a guest conductor with the Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra
and Music Director with Landmark Musical Theater.

In addition to conducting, he still maintains an active performing career – he has performed on both piano and clarinet with organizations such as the National Broadway Tour of “Wicked”, New Mexico Symphonic Chorus, San Juan Symphony, and the Roswell Symphony. In Albuquerque, Wojciech also served as the accompanist/pianist at the First Unitarian Church of ABQ, and has worked with Opera Southwest in various capacities.

I have been teaching Woodwinds for quite a few years and I love it! My students have seen results from learning to love to practice, to competitive success in solo competitions. When you first come you will start to think about music in a simpler way and will gain the confidence and understanding you need to play how you would like. Normally, I use The Rubank Method to develop a lot of technique in younger students. For those playing jazz or folk, we do a lot of play alongs while focusing on specific concepts.

About Henrik
Hello my name is Henrik! I have been playing the saxophone ever since I first picked one up in grade school. I consider myself a goofy individual who takes my instrument very seriously. I have been teaching private students for about eight years. I am currently getting my degree in Saxophone Performance from BYU. I love it when my students learn to have fun while practicing and gain confidence in performing. No matter your schedule or location, I am determined to make a difference and help people improve. I have a flexible class schedule that allows you to pick a time that works best for you.

I find it most successful to prepare a lesson for each student before hand, rather than going over the same thing with every one of them. You can expect a well rounded range of exercises and practice techniques. From motif development, t
une memorization and progressive patterns, to theory studies, music analyzation and playing along with the great recordings with the pros.
