Hi, there! My name is Victoria and I cannot wait to meet you! I love sharing my passion for music with beginners and helping them navigate beginning to play the clarinet or returning to the clarinet after a break (whether that break is summer break or a life break).

I love helping my students work toward their individual goals and overcoming challenges. I have helped students audition and make the Iowa All-State Band, play songs that students want to play/perform, help with memorization of scales, teach beginner fundamentals of music and the clarinet, helped students audition for college music programs and prepare for solo/ensemble contests. I work with your goals to help craft a lesson plan that is specific to you.

I have performed with local (SEIBA), collegiate (Central College & University of Iowa), and state (Iowa) honor bands with the clarinet.

I have been playing the clarinet for 23+ years and have been teaching private lessons since 2017. I specialize in beginner students who are just learning and beginning with the clarinet as well as those students that are returning to the instrument. My students not only get to work through technique, rhythm and tone exercises, but they will get to participate in virtual solo competitions. 

Solo performances help with performance technique and I hire a judge to provide additional feedback. The student can choose to invite others to view their performance or they can keep their performance available only to the judge and myself. Regularly performing helps students become more confident in their performance and helps prepare them for honor band auditions, school solo competitions, talent show performances and even college entrance auditions. Solo performances are in May and November.

Victoria is a wonderful teacher.  I had no music training or experience, and out of the clear blue, I decided to learn to play the clarinet. Oh, I should point out that I’m an adult. I’m older than you; actually, I’m older than most people. I’m 65. If you think that’s too late to learn to play an instrument. Victoria will prove you wrong. Victoria took me from how-do-you-put-this-thing-together to playing a four and half minute song in one year. What was incredibly amazing was that every lesson was over Zoom. Victoria has a well-thought-out plan that accommodates whatever style of music you want to play. She is charming, engaging, and patient. If she could teach me to play the clarinet, she can you to play.

My son has been taking clarinet lessons with Victoria since the beginning of the school year.  He absolutely loves his lessons!  Victoria is very good with kids, patient and kind and helpful.  My son has improved way more in his lessons with Victoria than even his time in band class.   We highly recommend her!!!!

I have not played my clarinet for many years and after some research, I decided to give Victoria a try. I am so happy I did! My first lesson went great and I look forward to the many lessons to come.

I've had several lessons with Victoria now and can't say enough about her.  I am doing so much better after many years away from bass clarinet and am about to audition for a local concert band here in town.  I'm very excited about the progress I've made and I credit her with not only helping me get there, but keeping me motivated and learning the music well.  Highly recommend!

I'm on my third lesson and really enjoying them.  Victoria and I have a great rapport and the lessons are filled with learning, laughter (mostly because I can laugh easily at my mistakes, not HER laughing at me!!), and they are so fun!  I'm doing super well because she is able to tailor her teaching style to my learning style.  I can't say enough how much this helps.  Looking forward to the rest of my lessons!

Wonderful teacher! My daughter was a bit unsure about taking online lessons and continuing with the clarinet, but she is enthusiastically practicing between lessons now and making way more progress than she did with in-person lessons at school. We're so lucky to have Victoria as a teacher and highly recommend her.

We had a blast!  She's knowledgeable, funny, smart, and has a great teaching strategy.  I'm really excited to continue my lessons with her!

In this class, students will continue to learn about their reeds. Students will leave class with tips on reed placement and strength. 

Reeds Part 2

In this class, students will learn how to assemble their clarinet and what to keep in mind when they are putting together their clarinet. This video will help students keep their clarinets healthy for longer.

In this class, students will learn what to look and listen for in their reeds. Students will leave class with helpful tips to continue learning about reeds.

Reed Basics

In this class, students will practice the first 5 notes (C, D, E, F, G) playing along with Victoria. This short video will help students read music and hear if their notes match those being played.
