It was an honor and a pleasure working with Gwen. Due to personal circumstances, I had to stop working with her, but I highly recommend her as an instructor. She's very knowledgeable, accommodating, and made me feel comfortable. You'll find yourself in good hands with her.

Joshua is a wonderfully talented and skilled musician AND communicator. His heart is in his work, and his teaching style is encouraging and supportive. I'm an older student (senior actually) revisiting my past love of the flute. My hour lesson flies by and it always ends with me feeling I've learned a lot. Thanks, Joshua, for being the fine teacher you are! My four stars "Great Experience" is a five star.

I love helping students succeed, and to feel a sense of accomplishment as well as having a good time while playing. I try to make every lesson something exciting to look forward to, leaving them wanting to practice before every lesson, whether it be learning a new piece, improvisations, singing, or any new activities. I consider myself as a guide, not someone that pushes or dictates students. It is my interest to create a positive, kind, genuine, fun, and creative atmosphere during a lesson.

About April
I have picked up and loved the flute for 16 years, and I wish to share this passion and creativity with students. I have had the opportunity to study under Emily McKay and Marco Granados, as well as perform in masterclasses with Trevor Wye, William Bennett, and Lorna Mcghee. As a recent Denver citizen, I wish to grow my roots as a teacher who fosters flute playing as a fun and outside-the-box activity.
I have started teaching private lessons since high school, and into my college and graduate school years. I have taken classes on pedagogy and teaching artistry in creative ways, such as teaching students to do improvisations and asking questions in order to get them engaged in the learning process. I have played classical, jazz, pop, and latin music, and can teach an array of different genres. I believe music contributes to a well-ro
unded individual, and will gladly accept students of all experiences and ages. My goal will to always keep the student engaged and having fun! It is important to play from the heart, and think of music as the spirit of sharing and collaboration.

April is wonderful. She is finding 'hidden' problems with my breathing and use, or at times misuse of my neck muscles and breathing that would be very hard for a lesser teacher to detect and work to correct.
Her ear for pitch/tone and the various 'artifact' background variances in my blowing/breathing structure and ways toward a remedy is amazing.
Any teacher can show a student posture and finger placement, but her teaching techniques go far beyond that.
I am more than pleased with her commitment to excellence.
Thank you April.

I have been playing flute professionally for over six years. My first performance was a production of "Chicago," and it opened up opportunities to play multiple woodwinds in all kinds of contexts.
I am excited to share my passion for this beautiful instrument!

About Michael
I am a woodwind specialist with a degree in saxophone performance from the University of Arizona. I have been performing and competing since the fifth grade. Since arriving in Tucson in 2010, I have performed with dozens of groups, perhaps most notably the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. I play a variety of musical styles including classical, jazz, musical theater, rock, funk and avant garde. Music has provided me the opportunity to travel all over the world, from London to China and Mexico to Peru.
I opened my private lesson studio in 2012. Since then, I have cultivated a deep passion for creating personalized lessons for motivated students. Lessons revolve around strong fundamentals, but feature fun and engaging activities such as games, transcriptions of pop tunes (or any genre), active listening and discussion, free and guided improvisati
on and anything else that inspires each individual student. I have taught beginners as young as eight years old to advanced players well into their retirement.
I'm looking forward to sharing my passion with you!

When my 11 year old son first began saxophone lessons with Michael Weiss, he was a true beginner but within 5 months, he was playing a song at a recital! Michael is patient and kind but firm in his direction and has instilled confidence in my son that he can play whatever songs he wants to play with focus and practice. Michael is flexible and adept at tailoring his lessons to the individual's needs. I highly recommend him.

Michel Dew is an absolutely wonderful teacher. I asked her to teach me as an adult student and I have to say with Michel’s guidance “Old Dogs” really can learn new tricks. She was able to get me to produce a tone that I never dreamed could come from me. Not only is she great with her adult and young adult students, but she also has an incredible way with young children. I’ve had many first hand experiences observing her with kids and she is incredibly caring, nurturing, experienced, and fun. Her passion and knowledge of music shines through in her teaching. I am lucky to have her as a teacher.

With my 15 years of experience and a Bachelor's and Master's degree in flute performance, you can expect lessons from me to be the highest quality. I have years of experience teaching dozens of flutists of all ages, and I make sure to adjust my teaching to the needs of each individual student. Everybody is different, so I want to make sure students get the most out of their experience! Young beginners will begin in methods such as Patricia George's "Flute 101" series or Kathleen Blocki's flute method series, while intermediate and advanced players will have a more comprehensive approach with studies in tone development, technique enhancement, etudes, and solo repertoire.

About Drew
As a recent recipient of a Master's Degree in Flute Performance from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music, Drew Powell is a promising young flutist and highly sought after flute teacher. For 15 years, he has participated in numerous music competitions, festivals, and performance opportunities, both as a soloist and part of ensembles, and actively continues to do so. He is an advocate of the arts and passionate about spreading the gift of music, which has lead him to teach over 30 students (and counting!) in just the past 3 years.

Drew won the 2017 Myrna Brown Artist Competition (an international competition with no age limit) hosted by the Texas Flute Society. He was recently invited to be a guest artist at the 2018 Texas Flute Society Annual Convention, where he taught several masterclasses and gave solo performances.

*
**My Vision***
I seek students who share a love of learning. I am not looking for the finest musicians or highest IQ's, because those gifts are not required to learn and grow. My greatest experiences as a teacher have come from when I work with students who just want to learn more.

***My Requirements***
I hold my students to high expectations when it comes to practicing. Each week, I give students individual assignments that I know will improve their learning and playing abilities, and I expect those assignments to be fulfilled by the next lesson. A failure to do so will result in frustration for both myself and my student.

However, I know that nobody is perfect, and I myself have had my share of weeks where life happens, and I simply don't progress as much as I would like. As a teacher, I understand this perfectly, and I will always strive to listen to my students, and work with them through their difficulties or struggles.

***What To Expect From Lessons***
I bring a lot of energy to lessons! I am very passionate about teaching and helping students grow, and I make sure to bring that to every lesson. I give concise, direct feedback to students, making sure to give them the information they need to understand how they can achieve their goals and grow.

I am very perceptive of students' feelings, and I take care to be sensitive to their needs each week. My worst fear as a teacher is to cause hurt feelings, so I will do everything in my power to avoid that!

I am an expert in the field of music and the flute, so you can be rest assured that the quality of instruction will be the highest.

Do you want to learn how to play the flute? Look no further!

During a Corinne flute lesson, you will learn how to create beautiful sounds first and foremost. This is the basis of great flute playing.

Once you are producing some quality sounds, we will move on to learning notes, reading music, and accomplishing your goals!

Aside from perfecting flute technique, we will also work on musicality and listening skills! These skills are important in bringing music to life.

If you already know how to play the flute, but would like a little more help, I will continue your education in whatever direction you would like to go.

I look forward to working with you!

About Corinne
I'm a clarinet playing, elementary music teaching, high school clarinet directing, performing, dancing teacher.

I have taught students from 5-18 since I was in high school myself, and I truly love it. I love watching individuals succeed, and I love feeling like I play a part in the process.

When teaching lessons, you may not find me sitting down. Sometimes we'll stand up and move, conduct, create, and choreograph to better understand the music we're working on. Sometimes we'll lie on the floor to work on breathing exercises. Sometimes we'll draw imaginary paintings on the wall to find deeper meaning in what we're learning. It's not just about the notes and rhythms. They are extremely important, but that is not where music ends.

My goal is to make you excited to see me and play your instrument. It is excitement and drive that wil
l help you succeed.

When I'm not teaching, you can find me playing my own instruments by myself or with my band. You can even find me breaking out my tap shoes to dance and play my instruments at the same time.

I am excited to work with you!

I fell in love with the flute at the age of 5 after hearing my aunt play. When I first tried to play, I couldn't make a sound. However, I decided I wanted to play flute in my school band anyway at the age of 10 years old. I ended up learning the flute and excelling as a first chair player all through high school. In college, I continue to playing because I loved it and planned to major in music education.
I would like to teach beginning and intermediate students how to play an instrument I absolutely love. I will include scales, tonguing, breathing and other basics of instrumental music for woodwind instruments focusing on flute. Additionally, I will give ideas on solos or things for students to focus on or practice in the future.

About Lorie
Thank you for your interest in lessons! I tutor Algebra, Flute and Psychology. I have been tutoring in Algebra for over 9 years because it's fun for me, which I know is hard to believe! I like to help students to really understand the concepts they need to know for future endeavors or to at least get through class. I offer homework help for students or general help for people who need to brush up on certain concepts.

Additionally, I like giving flute lessons because I have received lessons in the past and I know how helpful and motivating they are. Lessons help you to outline what your goals are for playing. Plus, you have someone to critique your playing and give you correct instruction in areas where you are weak.

I majored in psychology and love learning all about it. The schools of thought and how our brain learns and
works is fascinating to me. I hope you will feel the same way after learning about the subject.

Experience:
I have an Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Idaho. I started as a major in music education and math education, and decided they were not for me because I preferred tutoring, instead of teaching a lot of students at once. I couldn't stand leaving a student behind to struggle on their own and possibly give up on something due to time constraints or not understanding how something was taught. I prefer to work with students one on one or in small groups, so they receive individualized attention. I like to tailor my lessons to each student and really focus on what they need help with to build a solid foundation for the next stepping stone in their education, whether it's Algebra or Flute.

I have tutored in math for over 9 years. Most of that is 9 years solid, but I started with part time here and there as a middle school student.
I also started teaching flute lessons as a high school student to beginning middle school students at the request of my band teacher.

I truly believe if you set your mind to learn something, you can. We are so lucky to be living in an age when education can be found easily. I hope you will consider taking lessons with me so we can help each other learn!
