I have been playing the flute since I was in high school. I have performed with flute choirs in high school and college. I have also played the flute in a community wind ensemble. I can work with beginner and intermediate students.

About Chelsea
I have a Master's in Music Technology from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and a Bachelor's in Music (Technology and Recording) from the University of Indianapolis.
I started on the piano when I was in elementary school. I began playing the clarinet, my primary instrument, in 6th grade. I then started playing the saxophone in 8th grade and started playing the flute in high school.
I also teach beginning trumpet and ukulele lessons. These are secondary instruments for me so I only teach beginners, but I can help you get started! I have played trumpet on my own off and on for years and I play a couple times a month with local ukulele groups.

*** Lesson Details ***
I can give lessons in person (my house or yours) or online! You must have your instrument, necessary materials, and music books at your lessons. You may
need to purchase additional books and sheet music.

Chelsea was very patient and listened to my concerns. She had material ready for me to play and was very kind when she corrected me. She always found something I did right even when I made mistakes. Very good teacher!

Chelsea did a great job at our first lesson! She was patient and encouraging. She gave my daughter good suggestions on how she could improve and things to try in areas she was struggling. My daughter felt so much better after the lesson. We will continue to take lessons with Chelsea

We sent music to Chelsea in advance and she was able to help my son with the difficult parts of his music. The time was well spent and she explained things well. We look forward to our next lesson and working with her over the next month to help him catch up.

I usually use beginner methods and solo pieces

About Ilona
I am experienced (3 years) in home school tutoring. I mostly work with Florida Virtual School students. I overlook their tests and assignments, and help them with preparations for Discussion Based Assessmemts (DBA). I also help parents with required annual evaluations and how to sign up with home education department.
For my tutoring sessions I use skills that include goal-directedness, I teach how to organize learning in small steps and how to set them up; I always strive to motivate and engage my students to make them interested in learning and have fun; I also use self-control skills to teach how to avoid distractions and I show how to use different focusing strategies. I use positive mind set skills to teach how to use failures as learning opportunities.

I have Masters in Education (2018) with specialization in English, Curricul
um and Education; and Masters in Arts (2012) in Teaching English to speakers of other languages, and Bachelors in Music Education (2010), both from Florida Atlantic University, as well as a degree in violin performance from Chicago.
I studied piano in Chicago for 10 years & taught both piano & violin for over 20 years. I also teach flute & cello for the past 5 years, as I studied them during my Music Education program.
I have taught music for over 24 years using the traditional and Suzuki methods. I am fan of the Essential Elements method and I Can Read Music book for string instruments, and the Alfred's Piano Library for piano. Alfred's piano library can be used for any age as they also have books especially made for adult learners. I also like their music flash cards.
For teaching music theory I mostly used Fundamentals of Piano Theory (9 levels) combined with Master Theory (6 levels) books.

I personalize every lesson, and always set goals for my students. Most of my violin students are members of the Florida Youth Orchestra as well as the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra and my piano students participate in Pompano Beach Piano competition and the annual Piano Guild auditions.
I teach any age and any level, and always stress that learning a new instrument is very similar to learning a new language, it needs a lot of patience, persistence and repetitions. My lessons are customized to my students needs, and are work in progress as they needs may change over time. I always remind my students that music can give them instant gratification when they learn to play favorite songs.
I always encourage my students to tell me about their music preferences, so I can incorporate them in their music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
All my tutoring sessions include reviews of previously learned material and if possible the use of technology. I use students books but often bring extra study materials if necessary.
All my lessons include technique and reading music. I like to use the Finger Power for piano students and Essential Elements for my string students, and scales for both.
Music theory: I use Master Theory and Fundamentals of Piano Theory books for younger ages, Alfred's music flash cards to support learning notes and musical terminology, and of course the fun part performance.

Besides Essential Elements for strings I also use String Tunes and I Can Read Music to add more fun to the lessons as well as support reading music during the lesson. For piano students I use Holiday Treats book, which comes in 2 different levels: Beginner & Intermediate, so my students have a new songs for a specific holiday.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I always bring violin with me to be able to show what I teach.

*** Travel Equipment ***
The students need to have their books and assigned material ready for tutoring. Instrumental students needs to have their music books, flashcards & instrument available as well as a pencil. I always stress with my students to be organized and prepared for their lesson, this way they will be able to focus better during the lesson. I always bring my violin with me. I also ask that the room where the lesson takes place be free of any distractions, such other siblings or any other noise. The quiet environment helps in faster learning.

*** Specialties ***
I tutor most K-12 subjects and prepare students to take ACT, SAT, GRE tests.
Music genres: Classical, traditional, Suzuki, Popular, Celtic, fiddle, Blues

The private lesson experience is unique in that it allows for more “customized” instruction that group lessons or rehearsals alone are not able to give. The instructor and student work one on one as a “team” toward the ultimate goal: a better understanding of their instrument, and a higher level of musical development.

In every lesson, we will work to improve technique, tone production, and listening/music reading skills, among other things. I will assign exercises and/or pieces each week that are meant to challenge, not overwhelm! Sometimes I will assign an exercise that is expressly meant for a particular area in which the student may not be the strongest, in an effort to develop that area. Learning an instrument is a skill that takes time to develop, and it is within the journey where most valuable learning takes place!

About Amanda
Amanda is a professional Pittsburgh-area flutist and private teacher. She has served as principal flutist with the Pittsburgh Philharmonic as well as second flute/piccolo with the Undercroft Opera. She has also served as a substitute flutist for the Edgewood, Westmoreland and Johnstown Symphonies. Amanda also performs with the Dolce Appassionato Trio, a chamber ensemble comprised of flute, cello, and piano. She is active as a soloist, performing in a variety of venues throughout the Pittsburgh region.

An ardent advocate of early music and historical performance, Amanda also plays the baroque flute. She has performed in masterclasses for internationally known baroque flutists Kim Pineda, Janet See, and Barthold Kuijken.

Amanda received a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Seton Hill University, and a Master of Music de

Classically trained teacher available for beginning through intermediate students of all ages. I want to ensure that we focus on what you want to learn, that you are happy with your progress, master proper technique, and have fun!

About Jesica
I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I started playing flute when I was 8 and bass when I was 13. In 2002, I moved to New York City to attend The Juilliard School, where I earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Double Bass performance. I came to Pittsburgh to attend Carnegie Mellon University, where I got a Master of Music degree and a post-graduate Performance Residency Certificate. Since finishing at Carnegie Mellon in 2011, I have been freelancing in Western PA, Ohio, and West Virginia.

*** Lesson Details ***
I want to provide a fun, relaxed environment in which you feel appropriately challenged and comfortable to make mistakes. I don't have a pre-set course of music and exercises that I give to every student. Rather, I prefer to have a variety of music and exercises at hand so that we can find material that addresses the s
tudent's learning needs and is enjoyable for that student. I love teaching to all ages and levels, and I understand that each student's learning style and goals are different - the needs of a small child are very different than the needs of a student looking to get into a college music program. I want to ensure that you are happy with your progress, that you learn proper technique, and that you have fun!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music stands, an electronic keyboard, mirrors so that students can see and make corrections to their form, a music library, and seating for parents. There's easily available parking on my street.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring my own instrument to demonstrate on. I have an electronic keyboard that I can bring if a music theory student does not have their own piano or keyboard. Students are responsible for purchasing all books and materials.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical music of all eras, from baroque through 21st century compositions.

She also is starting to teach me the basics on how to read music. I couldnt ask for a better teacher to start me on the fundamentals of the upright bass. I was satisfied with the lesson. I wasn't noticing that Jessica had 2 E-Mails 'till the next day when I checked my PC. She said that she could be at at the bus stop when I got off the bus yesterday. That was alright anyway; I was a little bit early But she said that it was alright. Buses ether are early or late. (some times they don't show-up at all; I call the bus company several years ago & why it happened that way. They told me that they don't have time to look for another person to drive the bus & the guy calls up & he just wouldn't be there that day. Any was I liked the lesson & Jessica lives close to the 71C were I live. It was a short ride from my place were I live. It as a good lesson.

The hardest part about learning the flute is tone! I have tons of sound exercises that I can show you to help improve your sound by doing them a little bit each day. My main instrument is saxophone, so learning to double on flute has forced me to work on sound constantly. We can also cover technique, scales, single tonguing, double tonguing, and circular breathing.

About Evan
My name is Evan McGlennen and I am a 2017 graduate of the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School. While in school, I studied extensively with two-time Grammy award winner Eric DeFade. I continued to study with Eric through the summer of 2015 while completing the Carnegie Mellon Pre-college music program. In the following summer, I was awarded a full tuition scholarship to the Berklee College of Music 5-week summer intensive. While attending the 5-week, I studied with Harry Skoler, Lance Van Lenten and other Berklee College of Music Faculty.

Today, I freelance around the Pittsburgh and surrounding areas playing a variety of styles on multiple woodwinds. I come from a large family so I'm very good with kids and can explain things in multiple ways. I'm very easy to talk to and want to help students discover their passion for
this incredible art form.

Who can take lessons?
Anyone and everyone! Total beginners to experienced musicians. I gladly encourage and accept all flutists from any background with any level of experience! I believe each flute player has a unique voice that we can, together, study, practice, and hone into a beautiful sonority.

What will we do during the lesson? How do I prepare?
Lesson time is meant for learning new concepts/techniques/ways to practice. It is all about the exchange of information! Some portion of lesson time may be designated for duets, questions, music theory/history/ear training, etc. The majority of the lesson will be spent working on technique, rhythm, tone, repertoire, and whatever else the student may need. The individual student is expected to practice to prepare for each lesson - how much time is based on the individual flutist. Many factors contribute to deciding the appropriate amount of practice time, and together we will assess what works for the student and their goals.

About Erin
Originally from Taylorsville, Georgia, Erin Wallace is a flutist and flute teacher currently residing in Chicago, IL. She is pursuing a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from DePaul University, where she is a recipient of a performance award in the studio of Mark Sparks. She has private lessons and attends studio classes that are led by many well known flutists from the Chicago area (Chicago Symphony Orchestra members as well as Chicago Lyric Opera and freelancers) and DePaul community.

During her schooling, Erin performed as principal flutist as well as piccolist of the DePaul Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Contemporary Ensemble 20+, Baroque ensemble, as well as many varying chamber groups. Erin experienced similar opportunities during her undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia, where she was a Hodgson Scholar.
During her time there she studied with Angela Jones-Reus, and she was featured on many recordings - from the UGA Wind Ensemble recordings to a flute studio holiday CD!

Erin frequently performs in solo and chamber ensemble settings, and has performed with the 5th Wave Collective, a Chicago-based performing group dedicated to performing works by female composers, and ensembles across the Southeast including the Atlanta Opera Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra. Erin has also collaborated with many artists, notably Grammy-nominated John Burke, with whom she performed on a CD titled “Superstratum” (available on iTunes, Spotify and online).

Erin has presented workshops, sectionals and masterclasses to a multitude of audiences: from beginner flutists to upper level performers, and even to full woodwind sections with oboists, clarinetists, bassoonists, and saxophone players. Erin has successfully aided flutists in her private studios to attain their personal goals as well as further develop their musicianship. In Erin’s studio she prioritizes healthy performance techniques, positive mindsets, and encouraging well-balanced musicianship. She currently maintains a private studio in Chicago in Lincoln Park, and teaches students from around the world via Skype.

Erin has performed at the National Flute Association Convention and Georgia Music Educator Association Conventions, and she has been privileged to perform in master classes throughout the nation with such renowned artists as Sir James Galway, Stefan Hoskuldssohn, Jeanne Baxstresser, and more.

If you choose to take lessons with me, your money is going toward top-notch private music instruction. My curriculum includes goal-setting meetings and check-ups to ensure that my student and myself are both doing our best to realize his or her musical ambitions. I utilize 'before and after' recordings to show my students just how far they've come without even realizing it, stirring up deeper motivation and reinforcing the power of practicing. Although I've been playing for over 15 years and now perform regularly in the NYC area, I don't expect my skills and experience to simply rub off on my students. When you schedule a lesson with me, you are working with an educator, not a performer.

Although I am a saxophonist professionally, I've been playing flute alongside it for a few years, and I'm fully capable of taking on beginner students on this instrument. Rest assured, the unique features of my teaching style and curriculum are no less powerful because flute is not my first ...

About Alden
I'm a baritone saxophonist and a die-hard jazz enthusiast living in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. I graduated from Bard College with a BA in music, specifically jazz performance and contemporary composition. In addition to saxophone, I also play clarinet, bass clarinet, flute, and piano (I'm also convinced that I can play the drums, but my friends disagree).
Since moving to Brooklyn, I've entrenched myself in the New York music scene, playing mainly jazz, funk and pop, as well as composing my own music on the side.

In addition to performing, I teach regularly, giving in-home lessons to my students throughout the NYC area. I teach all levels of saxophone, as well as beginner to intermediate piano, and beginner flute and clarinet. I offer a rich curriculum with my own set of teaching materials such as, goal calendars, practice logs, and be
fore-and-after recordings.
If you are thinking of booking lessons, don't hesitate to contact me via Take Lessons. That way I can ensure that I have space in my studio and that you will get the most out of your experience with me. Can't wait to work with you!
