*** Lesson Details ***
What happens in a Lesson? In order to train your physical voice, it is necessary to do vocal exercises, in the same way that one needs to train at a gym. There is no "magic key" to unlock one's voice; it is a matter of daily practice and muscle strengthening/stretching. So, the first part of the lesson will be focused on vocal exercises specifically tailored to YOUR VOICE and its needs. The second half of the lesson is the fun part- SINGING! We will work on any songs and styles that YOU choose. Whether you want to sing Rock, Country, Pop, Musical Theater, or Classical, there is a healthy and communicative way to sing!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a keyboard. The student should provide a recording device, iPhone, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Classical and Broadway style singing, but have extensive experience in Contemporary Commercial Music as well. I teach a healthy approach to all styles, and modify technical approaches towards the genre that the student is most interested in.

About Shannon
Hello all you musically inclined people!

Thanks for stopping by!

I offer two kinds of singing classes: A) Singing Yoga and B) Classical Training (with focuses in jazz, musical theater, pop/rock/indie).

For those who are interested in the singing yoga course, just click on the link above that says "yoga".

For those interested in traditional vocal instruction, read below:

1) I STRIVE TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT THAT CATERS TO YOUR LEARNING EXPERIENCE. I know firsthand as both a student and a teacher that no two learners absorb information the same way. Therefore, during the lessons, I will pay attention to your unique learning style and craft my instruction around that.

2) I'M GOING TO ASK YOU QUESTIONS. I don't mean to put you on the spot and I don't expect you to know the answers right off the bat, but I ask because I'm c
urious to see what you think the answer might be or what you already know. And of course, I'll tell you the answer after anyway.

3) I WANT YOU TO ASK ME QUESTIONS. I especially stress this with my younger students. Don't be afraid to ask me questions. It's good to have a curiosity about music or to ask something if you didn't understand when I explained it the first time.

4) I CAN ONLY TAKE YOU SO FAR, YOU HAVE TO MEET ME HALFWAY. While professional vocal instruction is unarguably extremely valuable, it's not enough. I will coach you and provide feedback as well as equip you with a comprehensive music education and vocal techniques, but you will still have work to do during the time in between our lessons. I will expect you to do the vocal warm ups and various exercises I give you on a daily basis. The golden ticket to becoming a polished singer is to keep up with it every day just like you would with any other skill.

5) THERE IS NO QUICK WAY ABOUT DOING THIS. I have had LOTS of potential students contact me asking how long it will take to become a good singer. I'll let you in on a secret: Celine Dion still takes singing lessons. Even the most seasoned singers in the world never end their vocal instruction. So you can take lessons for as long or as little as you would like, but if you are really dedicated to becoming better, you never stop learning how to become better.

6) I'M GOING TO PUSH YOU OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE. It's natural for humans to place mental limitations on themselves. During lessons, I will ask you to do things you don't think you can or might feel too embarrassed to try. Learning how to sing is a confidence-building experience. I will remind you that I have been in the same boat as you and it just takes time and trying to conquer fears and become a strong singer.

7) YOU ARE GOING TO LEARN EVERY DIFFERENT COMPONENT OF VOCAL INSTRUCTION. We will cover the following: music warm ups, breathing exercises, physical warm ups, repertoire building, stylization, performance, technique, and music theory. My goal is to make you fluent in the language of music.

8) I'M EASY-GOING: I feel it is only fair that I warn you about my sense of humor (I try to infuse it into everything I do...keep life light and humorous :) ). I never make fun of my students, but I'm a pro at making fun of myself. My point is, I encourage you to laugh off mistakes. Be prepared for those. Your voice will crack, you'll hit a note wrong....you're just going to royally mess up. Don't worry about it. These lessons are a judgment free zone and I try to infuse humor into them. Besides, you have to mess up to get better anyway.

So shoot me a message! I can't wait to get stated with you!!

I have two sons that have been taking lessons with Jordan for 10 months. He is teaching both my sons, one the guitar and the other piano. I have used one previous instructor from takelessons.com for piano lessons and he was good. However, Jordan does not constantly reschedule lessons and I can see more progress in how fast my son is learning and his enthusiasm to learn. I am happy I switched my son who plays the piano to Jordan, whom was already teaching my other son guitar.

Key Points:
Jordan, is good at assessing a student’s abilities and interests and adjusting his lessons accordingly

He makes the lessons fun and challenging.

He has gone out of his way to learn about my sons and their interests, so when they were introduced to guitar and piano, they were able to learn and play music that they already enjoyed listening to

He is a gifted musician but also highly skilled at teaching. He works well with families and has a flexible schedule.

He is fair but firm with students

The highlight for me was hearing my sons have a jam session together

Jordan has a wonderful ability to relate to people. He has excellent skill and enthusiasm, making my sons WANT to learn.

I would highly recommend him as a teacher.

Jordan is amazing, he can just learn a song by ear the first time he hears it, I’ve been working with him for a little over a year and I never thought I’d be able to do that, but my ear has really started to develop. He always offers positive critique, never negative and always patient!!

About Edwin
I am a professional bassonist. I graduated from Vicente Emilio Sojo Music Conservatory (Barquisimeto - Venezuela) with a Bachelors of Music, specifically Bassoon.

The Bassoon is one of the most beautiful instruments but also one of the difficultest to play. Every bassoon player has a unique timbre; I teach students to release built up tension and apply foundational techniques in order to unlock their own individual sound. I can help any student to play with freedom, confidence, and expression.

I teach bassoon students of all different ages and experience levels, or even begginers. I studied classical bassoon for 10 years.

I've play in different orchestras, chamber groups and also as a soloist player in numerous occasions. So I can help students to be prepared for any audition or concert they have scheduled.

My personal passion is clas
sic music but I firmly believe that great technique is essential to any and every style. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!

Sonja’s enthusiasm for the harp and for music, in general, is contagious! Sonja has a lot of patience for beginning harp players. She offers a good mix of “performance” pieces and exercises to keep the practices (and lessons!) both fun and moving in the right direction! After watching me play for only a few minutes, Sonja has the distinct ability of being able to determine where and how I can instantly improve, which she always offers in a positive, constructive format. Sonja makes me feel like I can conquer any piece. I would highly recommend Sonja to anyone considering harp lessons!!

I'm a guitar/marching drum teacher from Oxford, AL. I've been playing guitar for 15 years and marching percussion for 11 years.

I am currently employed as an electrician on a US Navy submarine in New London, CT, but music has always been my main passion. I teach guitar (beginner to intermediate) and all forms of marching drums (snare, quads, and bass drum).

For marching percussion students: I've taught 2 high school drumlines (Wellborn HS and Oxford HS in AL), and have received world-class instruction from some of the best music teachers and drum and bugle corps instructors (Atlanta CV in Atlanta, GA). The high school lines I've instructed have received several awards for superb technique, marching ability, discipline, and musical execution. I have access to hundreds of exercises to build fundamental ability and endurance, as well as i
mproving your ability to assess your own playing critically and accurately. My main goal is for you to enjoy what you do, and to always strive for musical excellence!

For guitar students: I have worked with many students from beginner to intermediate levels. I teach different techniques of playing (finger-picking or using a pick), proper hand placement and chord structure, how to read tabs, use of alternate tunings, and scales. I'm primarily a rock guitarist, but I play different styles occasionally. My main inspirations are Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Zakk Wylde, the Foo Fighters, Stevie Ray Vaughan, AC/DC, and Jimi Hendrix.

I hope that I can pass on the knowledge I've inherited from my wonderful teachers to the next generation of musicians!
