About Kareem
A native of the Pacific Northwest, saxophonist Kareem K is a performer, composer, and educator, who is in high demand for his talents both on and off the stage.

Growing up in the northwest with its vibrant music scene allowed Kareem the opportunity to study with, listen to and perform with world class jazz artists residing in the area. Artists such as Tracy Knoop, Jay Thomas, Don Lanphere, Bill Ramsay, Hadley Caliman, Julian Priester and many others had a large impact on Kareem early in his musical education. This direction and guidance continues to inspire and lead Kareem as he continues his lifelong passion undertaking a career as a professional musician.

Today, as a performing artist he spends most of his time leading his group for which he composes and arranges most of the music. The band is constantly on the move as a sought af
ter performing group and spends most of its time performing in and around the Pacific Northwest. When not leading his own group Kareem can be seen and heard performing as a sideman with many other top notch musical acts and projects, most notably The Paperboys from Vancouver BC.

As an educator Kareem divides his time teaching jazz improvisation as an artist in residence at The Tacoma School of the Arts, directing the award winning student jazz ensemble at Pierce College, conducting masterclasses and workshops at schools around the Puget Sound area, and maintaining a full load of private students. Along with his teaching duties Kareem is the director or The Tacoma Jazz Association, serves on the Tacoma Arts Commission, and is a D'Addario Woodwinds performing artist.

Kareem holds a Bachelors Degree of Music from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle Washington which he attended after receiving a full scholarship.

Throughout his years of teaching Kareem has worked with students of all ages and abilities, from beginners just getting started, to advanced players who simply want new ideas and direction.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are relaxed and are focused on what you would like to learn.

I usually begin with assessing where students are in their abilities and then come up with a lesson plan based on what they already know and what they would like to accomplish.
They can be geared towards a 5 year old with no musical training whatsoever, or to an advanced musician who wants to further develop their skills.

Topics that I cover in lessons throughout a typical day of teaching include: Instrument technique, sight reading skills ( note and rhythm recognition ), memorization skills, music theory, ear training, improvising, and composing.

After 3 to 6 months of lessons and regular practice a beginning student should have a good command of their instrument and a strong foundation of sight reading. At this point we normally will also have started some music theory as well. For students wanting to focus on jazz we will have already begun improvising as well.

*** Studio Equipment ***
5x10 room w/ piano and seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
I focus on the basics of learning to read music and basic technique on the instruments that I teach. From there I proceed with theory, ear training, improvising, composition etc. It all depends on what the students want to learn. I am comfortable teaching classical music as well as jazz, rock, composition, and improvisation.

Kareem has been teaching me since I was in the fourth grade. I am currently in 8th grade, and man what can I say, he's as good as it gets! After two years I was in my middle school jazz band, which is not easy for a person who has only been playing for two years. You, yourself will be able to see extreme progress within just a few lessons! You must know Kareem teaches at Pierce College, a class at the Tacoma School of the Arts (which I hopefully will be attending and taking his class), teaches numerous private students every week, and lastly he performs with a stellar jazz band of his own! He is extremely dedicated to the musical field. If I were anybody reading this review and wanted to start playing any of the variety of instruments he plays, I would call Kareem K.!

Kareem is a dedicated and diligent musician and teacher. He is able to share his love of music with students of all ages. Not only is he extremely capable of teaching students the technical aspects of music, but his lessons incorporate a wider perspective as well, such as, listening to different genres of music and asking his students to discuss what they hear. He is always positive and encourages students to do their best. He has style and class and it is a privilege that two of my children can study under his tutelage.

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

As a multi-instrumentalist specializing in woodwinds, I teach proper technique to beginning and intermediate flute students.

About Maria
At a young age, I found my passion through playing and listening to jazz and classical music and experiencing the interpersonal connections music creates. From performing to teaching, I love to share my passion for music with those around me.

Since graduating from Temple University with a B.M. in Music Education and Jazz Studies, I have played with musical groups in Europe and recently became a K-8 general music teacher in Philadelphia. Playing and teaching around the world and at home has given me great insight into how students need to be taught: with relevancy to their own lives while maintaining artistry and integrity.

My teaching experience ranges from private lessons and jazz workshops to summer music camps and K-12 music classes. I love teaching and will probably never stop!

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe it is impor
tant to solidify the foundations of music, so that the student can grow into a knowledgeable, expressive musician. My lessons are taught with a personal and energetic approach leaving the student excited and eager to further explore music. I always make sure that the student is having fun!

Learning an instrument is all about personal growth as a musician. I will help my students become better musicians week by week as long as they are willing to practice and come prepared for the lesson.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I will provide a metronome, tuner, music stand and some music books/repertoire. Student may need to provide their own lesson books.

I specialize in classical techniques, improvisation, composition and songwriting.

I structure lessons so that students learn what they want to learn, while also covering notes, scales, improvisation, and reading music. I use the appropriate level Robert Cavally Melodious and Progressive Studies books, Rubank Methods for flute, and any other material the student is interested in learning.

About Kelsey
Hello there! My name is Kelsey, can't wait to meet you! I am fairly new to teaching private lessons, I started this January 2017. I love teaching, and I am very passionate about the flute! I'm excited to share my knowledge of this instrument with students, and to help them to achieve their best sound. I achieved my minor in flute performance at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and graduated with my Bachelor's in 2012. I have personally been playing the flute for 20 years, and am able to teach students both to read music, and to improv. I perform in a duo several times a month around St. Louis and surrounding cities, specializing in flute improv and flute solos. I am a very patient, and enthusiastic person, and my teaching style is flexible and fun, focusing on attainable goals so the students can experience success.
I look forward to helping you reach your musical goals!

I was referred to Kelsey by a co-worker when I decided to start my seven year old on my old flute. We weren't sure if flute would be the right instrument, but since I already had one, it was the first logical step.

After the first lesson, my daughter had a good handle on identifying the notes in the treble clef. Half the battle is getting Chloe to pay attention. A stuffy, boring instructor would never keep her interest.

Kelsey is friendly, and reliable, and keeps lessons fun.

We switched to Kelsey for lessons in January, and the difference in my 9-year-old beginner flute player was very noticeable. Brittany has been more motivated to practice, and has moved forward two seat-ranks in school band since starting lessons with Kelsey. Brittany loves her. They relate in a unique way, "woman to woman," so to speak. Kelsey is very dedicated, and knowledgeable about the instrument. Brittany is in good hands.

I have taught and experienced teaching from intermediate to advance level of students. I have worked in private settings, as well, as with group of students for those who want some support from their peers. I've enjoyed it all! Currently, I am a private flute/piano instructor and I love using my gift for music to help people develop their musical skills.

About Simona
My name is Simona and I am a passionate, determined young flutist. I recently graduated with a Master Degree in Music from Aaron Copland School of Music, NY. I love teaching and spreading my love for the music to my students, as much as I adore playing my flute. I have had the opportunity to perform in many venues, different cities in United States and Europe and there is no greater joy to me than playing music and seeing the happiness in people's eyes. I have also experienced teaching in different settings, such as, groups, as well as private flute teaching. I love what I do and I put diligent work to grow each day, so I can inspire and motivate my students.
In my experience as an instructor, I have found that students learn easier if they can hear the sound they want to create; therefore, I always strive to be in my best performin
g shape, so I can play duets with my students and help them learn easier. I also encourage their daily practice to be smarter than harder. My goal is to teach the students to love what they do and be excited about their playing. I encourage them to perform even in small setting before family, so they can increase their confidence in playing. I am looking forward to meet new, enthusiastic students of all ages and levels!

The flute is a family of musical instruments in the woodwind group. Unlike woodwind instruments with reeds, a flute is an aero phone or reed less wind instrument that produces its sound from the flow of air across an opening. According to the instrument classification of Hornbostel–Sachs, flutes are categorized as edge-blown aero phones.[1][not in citation given] A musician who plays the flute can be referred to as a flute player, flautist, flutist or, less commonly, fluter or flutenist

I believe that technique serves musicianship and that it is important the student feels he or she gets to make music in every lesson and in every practice session. Every technical exercise should have a direct musical application, and every single lesson should be tailored to the student’s needs. Although not every student will want to become a professional flutist, my goal is to get every student to enjoy the process of working toward his or her greatest potential.

Brian is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Kansas where he studies with Dr. Sarah Frisof and serves as the flute Graduate Teaching Assistant. One of the duties I have as an elementary and middle school band director was starting new students on various woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments.

About Art
I have been teaching music in some form for over 32 years. As a public school music teacher, I have taught at almost every level K-12. My primary duties have been as a band director, choral director, general classroom music teacher, and handbell choir director. As a general classroom music teacher, I have over 10 years of experience teaching guitar to between 15 to 25 students at one time! My professional performing experience has been primarily in popular music on both drums and bass guitar (both of which I have instructed privately).

One of my greatest enjoyments throughout the years has been starting students on their chosen instrument. I have extensive experience in teaching beginning guitar, bass guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, and tuba. In addition, I have extensive experienced in taking a
student from the beginner level to the intermediate level in percussion/drum set (my primary instrument in high school and college).

As I begin to wind down my career as a public school teacher, I very much would love to build a solid career as a private music instructor. I believe that I have much to offer in this field, from my experiences spanning over three decades!

I want each of my students to love playing their instrument and to love music. Each student will develop a solid technical and theoretical understanding while being encouraged to experiment and develop their own ideas. I will guide the student but always leave room for the student to study what they are interested in. In addition to teaching specifics of flute I will focus on performance skills and on instilling confidence in my students.

About Rachel
I am a junior at Northwestern University studying flute performance and psychology. I have been playing flute for almost 10 years and have worked in solo, chamber, and orchestral settings in addition to teaching. I have attended the Aspen Summer Music Festival and School and Eastern Music Festival. At the Aspen Summer Music Festival and School I was a teacher for the Passes and Lessons Summer Program and Foaring Fork Valley Lesson Program. As part of the Passes and Lessons Summer Program I taught local honors students who had auditioned and recommended other musical activities for them to attend, as well as opportunities to shadow me during orchestra rehearsals.

As an orchestral musician, I have played with both the student and faculty orchestras at the Eastern Music Festival, the orchestras of the Aspen Music Festival and School, and
both orchestras at Northwestern University.

I also seek out solo performances, and have performed as a concerto soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, with Brett Mitchell conducting, been a finalist in the Eastern Music Festival, and won first place in the Central Ohio Flute Association's collegiate competition.

I am a passionate musician and educator. I have worked for many years as a private flute instructor on both the modern and baroque flute, gaining experience teaching many age and skill levels. Lessons are tailored to the individual needs and goals of the student, with an emphasis on developing tone, technique, and breathing skills. Students will also be encouraged to think about the music that they play. As a musician, I developed an interest in the field of Historical Performance over the course of my undergraduate degree. In this field, one not only studies the music of past periods, but studies its relevance to the social, political, and cultural circumstances of its time. I believe this puts me in a unique position as a music educator, as I understand the importance of teaching students to connect musical works to their historical contexts. This is a skill that will provide them with a richer understanding of all types of music, including both classical and popular, and give them ...

About Natalie
I am a flutist and music teacher new to the state of Illinois. I received a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance and Music Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2012 and a Master of Music in Flute Performance in 2015. I have experience performing in orchestras, wind ensembles, wind quintets, as well as solo music. I have appeared as a concerto soloist with the Oberlin Baroque Orchestra and the Five College Early Music Program’s Euridice Baroque Orchestra, and I have attended the Baroque Performance Institute at Oberlin College. My numerous years of experience as a performer and education background inform my philosophy as a music teacher.

I recently finished a second Master’s Degree in Historical Performance as a recipient of the Conservatory Dean Scholarship from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. There I learned t

I am interested in the history of the flute, and learning to play new instruments is always an exciting challenge. I encourage my students to develop their physical skills as musicians, and also explore their own passions. Though my recent area of study has been historical music, I also have significant experience in more recent music as well.

I look forward to becoming your teacher!
