Although I am primarily a saxophonist, clarinet is a secondary instrument that most saxophonists also have to know how to play. As a performer it is an absolute necessity that I be able to double on the clarinet and be just as proficient.

My goal as a teacher is to provide an in depth understanding of the instrument to my students. Whether we are learning technique specific to the instrument or general musical concepts, it is important to me that I take the time to insure that my students not only learn how to do something, but also the reasons why we are learning a specific concept or technique. At the end of the day, my ultimate goal is to teach you how to teach yourself, so that you may enjoy playing the instrument outside of our lessons together.

I prefer not to conform to a specific teaching style, because every student is different, and I have been fortunate to have a great variety of types of students throughout my years as a teacher. Some of my students are ...

Jorge tutored me for a few weeks in music theory and it greatly benefited me. He shows through his examples and explanations that he really understands concepts of music theory and keyboard, as well on his clarinet too. I highly recommend hiring Jorge since he goes over the information at a good pace and nice manor. He will go over whatever you need help on.

My son began piano lessons with Rachel nearly two years ago and we have been very happy working with her. He has progressed steadily and is continually challenged to improve. She selects musical pieces that fit his personal interests as well as more traditional pieces with increasing complexity. We hope to continue learning with her for many more years to come.

My major instrument in college was clarinet, but I am a woodwind specialist, having performance experience on flute, clarinet, and saxophone. I have a particular affinity for late beginners, and have had some success in helping these students catch up to their peers. All of my woodwind students use the Rubank method books in addition to any method books they may already be using in their band classes. I also introduce appropriate literature and studies specific to each instrument once the basics have been mastered. I encourage all of my woodwind students to participate in OMEA Solo and Ensemble contest and to audition for OMEA District and State Honor Bands.

I am a Broadway musician with over 20 years of teaching experience. I know that each student learns differently so I use many different teaching methods and musical genres in lessons. I can help you get started on an instrument, improve your current abilities, work on school band and orchestra music, prepare for festival and solo auditions, prepare for college auditions, or just find great enjoyment in playing.

I pack a lot into each lesson making sure we address things such as: posture, theory, accuracy of rhythm, note reading, warm-ups, scales, etudes, solos, musicality, composition, interpretation and technique.

I also specialize in teaching students how to practice so that they can make the most of their practice time and progress as quickly as possible.

I am an adult, and have had several teachers, and Julie is the best. She is warm and caring and friendly, with a nice sense of humor, and is also businesslike and focused. The lessons are fun, but you don't waste time. Her knowledge of different instruments and different kinds of music is very impressive. When she gives criticism, it's always constructive and thoughtful. She often gives praise when I do well, and the praise is also thoughtful. She gives good suggestions for practice and for working out a problem within the lesson. She treats me like an individual, and appreciates my musical interests, so doesn't try to make me do the same program as everybody else.
Becky
My daugher has been taking piano lessons from Julie for 3 years now. Julie is a wonderful person and a wonderful teacher. She is a brilliant musician and I am so thankful for her calm, clear, kind and patient manner of teaching. She is professional and also makes you feel at home. Julie's encouragement has helped my daughter progress musically and feel more confident with her playing. We adore Julie!

"My daughter is thriving under Robin's guidance. She is an intermediate clarinetist in middle school. Robin is a dynamic teacher who connects well with her, as I believe she would with most children and youth. Robin has been helping my daughter in her musicianship and exploration of the clarinet. They work on pieces for both the school band and my daughter's personal interest. Lessons are enjoyable and Robin is a skilled, reliable and encouraging teacher. We feel fortunate to have found her."

"David is a fantastic musician and truly gifted teacher. When I moved to the Philadelphia area, I tried 2 other teachers who had been very highly recommended, but I was sadly disappointed -- not because they were not very good musicians, but because they were not able to pass along to me what I needed I order to progress. I had almost given up on the idea of getting a wonderful teacher who would listen to my needs and be able to help me. But since being with David, my playing has improved tremendously in a fairly short period of time (less that 1 year). He has helped me improve my technique and sound dramatically. And... he's a lovely person. I cannot recommend him highly enough."

"Hi, JeanMarie lives in my community, she is a great person and teacher. I am a middle school band director in Traverse City, Michigan. I wish JeanMarie could teach ALL our clarinets!

With an undergraduate degree from Eastman and a Masters from Northwestern, we are VERY fortunate to have JeanMarie in our community.

I often contract her to come in to coach/teach our beginning, 7th, & 8th grade clarinets.....she also is a substitute teacher in our district.

JeanMarie Riccobono is a top-notch clarinet teacher. She will do wonders for you or your student.

Thank you,

"Mr. Rappaport was my clarinet professor and mentor in college and has continued to be an inspiration to me both as a teacher and as one of the finest clarinetist I know, both in the classical realm and in the jazz and swing styles.

Anyone who has ever heard me play has always complimented me on my clarinet tone. I can honestly say that my clarinet tone is the direct result of Mr. Rappaport's methods and his gentle but very stringent guidelines. If you are looking for someone to take you or your child to the highest standard of musicianship, look no further. I highly recommend lessons with Mr. Rappaport. Kim C."
