About Luca
There are lots of reasons people take singing lessons...a dream of performing for crowds, wanting to melt faces at karaoke, not being embarrassed when singing in the shower... But the common goal is finding your voice and creating a sound you love. My studio is designed to create a space where that process is comfortable and fun! Lessons will start wherever you’re at and go at your own pace towards your specific goals.

I was trained at the School of Creative Arts in Sydney, Australia and specialize in pop, rock and R&B vocal technique. I work with a lot of beginners as well as people in bands and songwriters.

I'm from an extremely musical family and have always loved singing. (I almost pushed my parents over the edge as a kid because I would hum CONSTANTLY...) I lived in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the US of A growing up and
then moved to Sydney, Australia after high school to study music. I ran a vocal studio in San Diego for a few years and now live in NYC.

I teach online and in my NYC studio. For in person lessons click on 'Singing' subject, for online click 'Vocal Training'.

If you don't see a time available in my schedule that works for you please feel free to contact me. Things are always moving and changing!

(PS: If you read reviews and notice every one was calling me Rachel, don't be confused! That is my middle name, I now go by my first name, Luca.)

Luca is an amazing instructor who is very knowledgeable on techniques and has been very helpful in finding my singing voice and in making me feel more confident in my singing. She is great at catching the small things I can use improvement on and gives me a few things to work on in between lessons. I definitely have seen progress in my singing and I'm excited to see what more my voice is capable of!

I love Luca! She is amazingly supportive and understands both me and my voice. We've made tremendous progress in two lessons, and I have real hope that I will soon be able to sing freely and well.

I have been a full-time performer and teacher for over a decade. I hold a Masters degree in classical performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where I studied with Grammy award-winning guitarist Jason Vieaux, and I hold an undergraduate degree from the University of the Arts in jazz performance. My performance career has taken me across the United States, to Europe, and to Asia. Highlights from the 2016-17 concert season include performances with the Columbus Symphony with soloist Rachel Barton-Pine and CityMusic Cleveland Chamber Orchestra, among others. The 2017-18 concert season includes concerts in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

As a teacher, I’m equally comfortable with kids and life-long learners. I'm very curious and always learning, and I love to share that inquisitive spirit with my students. Lessons w
ill be structured around music that you enjoy, whether that is rock, classical, or jazz. Music theory and technique will be incorporated into the lesson from day one, but never at the expense of making music. I look forward to meeting you!

As for advanced teaching, my teaching style helps students to open their minds so they can enjoy themselves through music. I enjoy teaching my students helpful ways to think about music, as opposed to just teaching them to execute the right notes. For example I might say "play the piano
like you sing, and sing as if you are telling a story!" This is an important part of my teaching philosophy.

I have students auditioned for America's Got Talent, the Disney Channel and the Met Opera Children Chorus

I feel so lucky to find Amanda as my son's first piano teacher. She is great with kids and make my 3 year old boy fall in love with piano now through her great teaching skills and interesting "animal story books" designed specifically for young children to learn piano. It's been only 2 months since Ethan's first piano class with her, and he's already playing with both hands and a lot of kids songs like "twinkle twinkle little star", "London bridge is falling down", "old McDonald had a farm"...Thank you Amanda!

The piano teacher for a lifetime

Amanda is an amazing teacher. I went back to taking piano lessons at the age of 45 and Amanda has been an incredibly patient, generous, intelligent and warm teacher. She is very personable, extremely knowledgeable about music, and the lessons are individually tailored so that I get the most out of them. I have learned so much as her pupil and I am growing (slowly!) as a pianist. Amanda has made this process enjoyable, fulfilling, and yes...fun!

About Jennifer
I have a Master's degree in music. My purpose as a teacher is to utilize all of my skills and education to realize my students' goals. I strive to inspire students towards musical excellence! I do this with much positive reinforcement, dialogue and critical analysis. With adults and advanced students, I include self-evaluation and discussion with the student so that they can become involved in their own development and musicianship.

*** Lesson Details ***
Tailoring each lesson to the individual needs of my students, I use a multi-faceted approach that includes memory, sight reading, ear-training and theory. This way students quickly build their repertoire and confidence on their instrument. Sing-a-longs train the musical ear, clapping reinforces rhythmic training, and new, exciting music strengthens reading skills. We often pla
y together, or have mini concerts to display the finished product of students' labor and encourage them towards new musical heights!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Yamaha Grand Piano, Acoustic/Electric Guitar, Classical Guitar

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar and my jeep

*** Specialties ***
When teaching piano, because I specialize in classical, I emphasize sight-reading, theory and performance from the very first lesson. As soon as possible, I have student memorize pieces appropriate to their level. I begin each lesson with memory work, move into sight-reading and analysis of the new work, or exercise. This way a student has a multi-faceted approach to music they are learning, and once they have learned it, they are continually adding to their repertoire. I work this way because many students are overwhelmed at the beginning of the learning stage. Examining the theory behind the composition helps them understand it, and approach it with less apprehension. Also, having pieces they can play from memory every week reminds them of the finished product of their labor and encourages them towards the new work.

If you are looking for an excellent teacher that can help you develop both technique and musicality, I highly recommend Zhana.

I have had the privilege of studying with her for seven months as an adult beginner, and I have learned so much. I come out of every lesson feeling like I’ve made progress—even when I am unhappy with how I am playing, Zhana helps me understand a key thing that I need to do to play better. She is able to explain things so that you don’t just conceptually understand, but so that your body can understand too (for all those times that your brain knows what you need to do but your finger/wrist/arm/etc. won’t cooperate).

Because she has played as a professional performer, Zhana draws on her experience to guide you to bring musicality and emotion to whatever you’re playing… even if you’re still in the early Suzuki books like me. I’ve studied with many teachers in the past (in school and privately) for piano, clarinet and voice lessons, so I know that the ability to teach across this broad spectrum of skills is rare.

Zhana isn’t just a great teacher, she is also a wonderful person. I am moving out of the city for a year, but I fully intend to continue lessons with her when I return!

Practice, patience, positivity, perseverance, and progress. These precepts help me to find excellence in my performance as a musician, and they will help you succeed at whatever musical goal you set. I intend to guide you toward success for yourself and help make the hurdles enjoyable. I emphasize listening, developing a strong musical ear, fundamentals, mindfulness, and technique.

I recently finished my music studies at CSU Sacramento where I studied jazz performance, trumpet performance, improvisation, arranging, and theory/composition. I am proud to have held the lead trumpet spot in the top jazz band for the entirety of my career. While my strongest style is jazz, I also have plenty of experience in classical performance, Latin style, musical theater, and pop. My students find success if they want it. About Grant
Music was a huge part of my upbringing. I had so many great teachers along the way, and I want to inspire young people to achieve their musical goals just like my teachers inspired me.

I'm a jazz trombonist from Charlotte, NC currently living in Washington Heights. After getting my B.M. in Trombone Performance from Appalachian State University, I moved to New York City to further my studies in the Master's Program at Manhattan School of Music. In 2016, I was the winner of the jazz portion of the Texas State Trombone Competition. I'm an active freelancer in the NYC jazz scene while I finish my studies.

Above all, I want to help cultivate a love of music in my students. The study of music teaches values that are not just relevant to performing, but to all of life: self-discipline, patience, humility, and the ability to listen to others.
I truly believe becoming a musician makes you a better person, and I want to help as many people as possible to follow that path.
