Jeff is very pleasant and friendly. He has a great ear so can pickup what hole is being played and whether it's being played correctly. This was over zoom!

Playing piano is fun! So should your piano lessons.
I've taught piano since I was in high school, and continued to teach while I was a student at Cornell University. I also taught theory classes in the Cornell Piano Society, where I served as President for 4 years.
Why? I simply love music, piano, and sharing it with others.
While I'm classically trained, I've dabbled into other genres, such as Jazz, Rock, Pop, R&B, songwriting, and music production / audio engineering. I've recently been accepted into the Steinway & Sons (the piano makers) Teacher Partnership Program. Feel free to message me for more details!

What’s So Important About Reading Piano Sheet Music?
Even though the existence of music can be traced back prior to the 11th century, it is an Italian monk, Guido of Arezzo, that has been credited with developing the first staff to house the different musical pitches. Before this, most of the music was passed down by word of mouth, meaning that there were distinct variations in the music based on who passed it down and how it was interpreted. Although scribes existed during this time, they did not see the value of writing down the music, nor did they have the means to accommodate it.
As printing became popular around the world, so did documenting music. The creation of piano sheet music had an impact on the music industry and the practices of music as a whole. Before mechanical printing made it possible to make sheet music more prominently available, sheet music was handwritten, and only those who had the knowledge could afford the material.
Fast-forward to today, and there is a debate about whether there is a necessity for someone to know how to read piano sheet music or not. As long as they develop their ear, they can play anything, right? Wrong, if someone wants to advance in their musical development, they must be able to read music.
Why Learn to Read Piano Sheet Music Online?
The notes of the piano and learning to read sheet music go hand-in-hand. When memorizing the piano notes, you can begin to expand, associating the notes to sheet music. You can also do it at your own pace if you want to learn how to read piano sheet music online.
You only need a few things to get started. Start with some blank sheet music, a pencil and an eraser (there will be mistakes, and you will want to erase them), and a small keyboard will work starting out—no need to dust off that grand piano yet. We are only getting started. Just make sure that the keyboard you use has at least 66 keys because once you learn how to read music, you will want to show off a little.
Even though you are learning online, it does not mean that you are learning alone. A highly trained musical expert will be the one who is teaching you, all from the comfort of your home. Much like education has turned to the virtual world to continue, so has the musical world.

The Benefits of Taking Piano Lessons Online
You and your family have busy schedules. TakeLessons.com knows that. We wanted to create a way for you and your family to learn the skills you need, only in an easier format. It is not always feasible to drop someone off at a lesson, only to return and pick them up 30 minutes later. That is 30 minutes of your time that could have been used elsewhere, like taking your own piano lesson online.
There are benefits to taking piano lessons, even online. When learning how to play the piano, you are forced to use both hands and develop motor skill dexterity. Think of the “rub your stomach and pat your head” action that always fouls people up. When you play the piano, you must work with two hands playing independently of one another.
Studies have even been conducted that show the educational and positive cognitive effects of playing the piano, even if for just a few years during childhood. With an increased ability to concentrate and better memory recall, grades are often better for those children who have worked with reading piano sheet music and learning the piano keyboard notes.
The taking of musical lessons, like piano, also provides practice in socialization. Students learn to communicate with their teachers as well as anyone else they may be playing an ensemble piece with. Even as adults taking these types of lessons, we can learn about effectively communicating.
By far, one of the best benefits of taking piano lessons is the discipline of the skill. Children and adults, alike, can learn patience by taking piano lessons and acquiring the discipline it takes to learn the new skills. There is also an appreciation for music that comes from taking a lesson. The work that goes into the composition and the effort it takes for someone to read the music involved in playing often goes overlooked. Learning to play a piece can bring back appreciation. TakeLessons.com helps pair instructors and students to create beautiful music.
