Private Theater Acting Teacher

I pioneered a private Arts Academy drama school for 4 years, and am now teaching acting and directing at a middle and high school. My goal is to help students become well-rounded in all the areas that are needed to truly become a working actor. These areas include: auditioning, theater, film, and improvisation.

Being a repertory performer for Silver Star Playhouse (musical theater parodies), and having lots of experience and training in improv and interactive dinner theaters really trains you in comedy.
My husband also owns Sound waves Productions (technological advanced studio in Gilbert)- so completing remote voiceover work for a reel is not out of the question.

I also encourage students to pair in duos for effective scene work and more in-depth technique training (this will also split your lesson cost in half).

About Rebecca

Greetings! I am super excited to be building a private and small group lesson platform at our home studio and to meet your personal acting and performing needs! I recently stepped down from 2 years of full-time drama and visual art at Lumos Arts Academy- a private school I played a role in pione

Rebecca was very nice, inviting and patient with my almost 13 year old daughter. This is our first experience with anyone regarding acting and we were so happy with Rebecca.

Rebecca is amazing. I was skeptical that we could do improv work online but she not only made it happen, she made it succeed! She shows up prepared and offers great structure. Her insight and advice are thoughtful and spot on which has helped me improve faster than I would with another instructor. On top of that the lessons are extremely fun! Seriously would recommend her for anything.

Private Theater Acting Lessons Near You

Theater acting takes place on a stage in front of a live audience. What could be more thrilling than putting on a show and experiencing the audience's reaction in real-time? Whether you're interested in musical theater, drama, or comedies, theater acting lessons will help you snag as many opportunities as possible to get on stage in front of real audiences.

From performing classic Greek tragedies, Shakespeare, modern classics, or singing and dancing to tell a story, theater acting is one of the most magical forms of performance. There's nothing quite like experiencing a live show, other than being in it! When you study theater acting with a private teacher, you'll get the opportunity to pass auditions and participate in the magic of acting on stage.

Why Learn to Act and Study Theater Acting?

Whether you're a student, hoping to try out for a school play, or an adult wanting to advance your career in theater, you'll be more successful with private instruction. Private lessons will help you gain confidence on stage, improve your presence, and develop your skills of expression and vocalization. Studying acting will help you in other aspects of life, too. You'll become more confident, more sympathetic, and even improve your public speaking.

The Best Way to Learn Theater Acting and What You'll Study in Classes

Of course, you can find lots of free theater acting lessons and tutorials online, but the best way to learn is with a private theater acting teacher. In private lessons, you'll receive your tutor's undivided attention and the kind of personalized instruction that simply isn't available with online videos or in larger class settings. With immediate feedback, you'll improve quickly, while you learn at a comfortable pace.

Plus, every private lesson is different. Private teachers completely customize lessons, keeping in mind the student's goals, interests, previous theater acting experience, and preferred learning styles. For example, theater acting lessons for adults differ greatly in terms of content and teaching methods from theater acting classes for children. In private lessons, you'll stay motivated and interested, while you study the types of scenes and characters that interest you most.

Sample Curriculum for Beginner Theater Acting

If you've never been on a stage or just have a little experience in theater acting, then beginner lessons are right for you. In these classes, your theater acting tutor will help you gain confidence and get comfortable on the stage. You'll learn the basics of acting, while also being introduced to everything that makes theater acting unique. Your teacher might cover the following subjects:

  • Learn to navigate the stage
  • How to interact and speak to other actors on stage during a performance
  • Practice diction, projection, and enunciation
  • Learn how to use expression and gestures on stage

Sample Curriculum for Intermediate Theater Acting

If you've already been in a few plays and are familiar with the basics of theater acting, then intermediate lessons will help you take your acting skills to the next level. In these classes, your tutor will help you improve your existing skills, while introducing you to new techniques and challenging you to take on more complex roles. You'll study different types of theater and become a more well-rounded actor. Your teacher might cover the following topics:

  • Voice exercises and projection
  • Develop stage presence
  • Focus on a specific genre of plays
  • Practice speaking with various accents

Sample Curriculum for Advanced Theater Acting

Students who already have lots of theater acting experience and roles under their belts will benefit from advanced theater acting classes. In these lessons, you'll have the opportunity to work with a professional theater actor in your preferred genre of theater to improve your skills, hone your performance for a specific part, or explore complex characters. Topics covered in advanced lessons depend greatly on the student's interests and goals, but your teacher might cover the following:

  • Round out your skills with music and dance practice
  • Workshop difficult scenes
  • Audition coaching
  • Performance preparation
